H3NRY
Just wandering what order the parts go in. as i gather from standard parts its:Top nut and cap inside bonnet.( now inside arch)Collared nut on top mount.Rubber top mountBearingSpring capSpringBut someone told me its:Top nut and cap inside bonnet(inside arch)Rubber top mountNutBearing'Coned' coil over spring capspring.Which is correct - does there not need to be a nut holding the top mount on?Pictures would be appreciated if possible. grazo22
Collared nut always goes on top of the rubber top mount as it applied pressure between the bearing and the mount. Coilover instructions don't really exist for that part
H3NRY
So, do i use the nut suppled with the coil overs on top of the top mount, or use that nut below and the collared nut above?
grazo22
It should go, spring, spring cap, bearing, top mount, flared nut, top cap then lock nut supplied with coilies. When I did mine I took the top spring retainer from my original sus and popped that on top of the spring retainer from the coilies so my bearing had the correct seating. H3NRY
ok cool, i need to buy the collared nuts then so i don't have to mess about with swapping top mounts.
grazo22
I would 100 million percent recommend just getting a second set of top mounts. That's the job that took the longest and I hated doing the most. It's far easier to just swap the struts over.
H3NRY
So this is incorrect and i need to buy the collared nuts?Or is that correct and it doesn't matter that the nut hasn't got a collar?
jon_273
That picture is wrong. The very first part of your first post is the correct order to fit the parts. You either need to remove the collared nuts from your original suspension (which will require the use of spring compressors to take it apart), otherwise you can buy new rubber top mounts, bearings and collared nuts to build up your coilovers beforehand. grazo22
Yep, that nut is to go on the top of the very top cap, the last thing to go on.
H3NRY
Thought so. In the thread that i took that picture from i was told that that was correct. Glad i asked now.
