1litrelupo
Hi all, i was wondering if someone could give me an idea on how much a major service for a 1.0 would be (cam belt etc.)Any help much appreciated
yellowdublupo
At VW major service is £249 and cambelt £
Defcon5
Is that £319 just to change the belt, plus 249 for the service on top?Plus the brake fluid change, pads, disks, tyres, aircon regas, tracking and airfresherner that they will claim needs doing
grazo22
You could do the minor service - oil and filter as it's very easy. Reset the service indicator I'd have the cambelt done at a specialist maybe as I can't imagine vw being a wallet friendly labour rate. Unless you want fvwsh thennn I'm jealous of your income
Stockle
I heard on the radio at work somthing about kwik fit an mot sand service for 99 inc parts and laybour? check it out its worth doing if it covers everything
pieface
I think you'll find its "FROM" £99 and the majority of Kwick Fits will give you a list of advisories/failures. Same as MOT centers that charge £30. Its costs the MOT centre £55 to put the MOT through, so they have to fail you and then make up the difference by failing you on high margin items like brakes etc.Heres Kwick Fits price list btw;http://www.kwik-fit.com/mot-and-service-pricing.asp Edited August 17, 2011 by pieface
grazo22
Kwik-fit did a service on my sisters car - said they changed the plugs and didn't. Saving them selves a tenner and assume as she was a laadddyyy she wouldn't notice - fools
pieface
A mate of mine did one better than that.Went to Kwik Fit with his A3. They said "you need new shockers" so he said "yeah ok thats fine". Got them fitted, paid and that was it.3 months later, he goes into Kwik Fit for some tyres (why I really don't know). Few hours later he got a phone call saying "your shock absorbers are leaking and you need new ones" he says "yeah, thats fine do it".Now when he went to collect he took the receipt from when the first set were purchased. They asked for payment and he said "oh no, they're under your warranty as I only had them fitted a while back".The service guys asked why he said yes to needing them his reply was simple. "you said I needed them, your the mechanics!"They lost out on £200's worth of shock absorbers because they assume people dont check, or know things. grazo22
Shocks are their favorite ones to do because people don't want to get dirty and check them. Bunch of tools, they earn comission on selling things like shocks and brakes. I believe HI Q do not have a comission based system and promise not to sell you parts you do not need - how true this is I don't know.I had a local garage do work on mine recently and the didn't put disc retaining screws on and even sheared on off. Its the same old expression. If you want it doing properly do it yourself and get grubby finger nails at the same time.

1litrelupo
Thanks for they replies homies . I did a minor service about four months ago (oil, oil filter, spark plugs, ht leads, air filter). I think i may just get the cambelt done as i bought the car without service history in feb @ 53,000 miles. Its now on 64 ish
