mattie
The problem is I've had 5th gear replaced already and its acting up again - slipping out of gear, noise during idle etc. Would you still recommend getting it rebuilt even though I've already had 5th gear replaced and its having problems? Not sure what to do!! Niche
Ideally whilst the gearbox is open all parts should have been replaced. The best thing (and cheapest) to do is find a local VW specialist garage and get some quotes to have your gearbox rebuilt. You can buy a rebuilt gearbox but you don't have a clue how that gearbox was treated, why the gearbox broke in the first place and how many miles its done. Tigz™
5th gear replaced? Why would 5th gear need replacing?Seems odd, how long back was it rebuilt?Who built it?New seal and bearings?Any warranty?
mattie
5th gear had been damaged. It was rebuilt about a year ago but I've had the problem for over 6 months now. We've pretty much written off the last rebuild due to problems we've had with the guy that did it. I'm guessing he didn't replace the parts that were needing replaced. Anyway, thanks for help, now need to find a good gearbox garage in Scotland for a rebuild, any ideas?!
