Low lumpy idle, hesitation & possible misfire.

Wife is running an 04 Arosa 1.0, a couple of days ago it developed a host of problems which i'm hoping are from the same source.

The tickover has dropped to around 500-550rpm. When pulling away it sounds & feels like one cylinder isn't firing. When putting your foot down, nothing happens, no power, struggles to get up hills, etc.

It's had a fresh coilpack, so it's not that and i'm going to test the HT leads next. Tried testing them by disconnecting from the coil pack to see what happens, but i had trouble as i think this thing shuts down 2 cylinders if you pull 1 HT lead (wasted spark?)

Any ideas? Just want to get rid of the damn thing and it's not going to sell running like a bag of spanners!

Cheers

bugger bugger bugger that hurts! and if you're really skilled you can drop the firing lead so that it ignites the hydrogen in the battery! Thankfully it only popped out of the vent, not burst the battery.

Pulled each plug, put it into it's HT lead, pressed it against an earth and got a spark from each one. One was a bit wet, but it was firing fine.

Running out of ideas now.

to test firing on cylinders you want to start the engine and then take each plug out individually and it should sound different every time if one doesnt change the noise of the engine its that cylinder then it could be weak spark or injecters.

so..

start it up

remove spark plug one

listen for a change of sound

refit spark plug

and repeat for each plug

have done this on several cars and about 1000 MAN HGV's as i m a HGV merchanic
