Snoopy
17573 Bank1, Long Term Fuel Trim, Range 1 Rich Limit Exceeded The code (17573) is shorthand for the error description. What that means is that the ECU has detected that the engine is running too rich (i.e. is using more fuel than it should do given the amount of air coming in). This could imply things such as an air intake blockage, or unburnt fuel somehow getting out of the exhaust valve, but the other message gives us a further clue... P1165 Intermitent The P1165 is just another way of saying 17573, each error code has two identifiers. You can look them up at the link posted by lee. The fact that it says intermittent is important though. It means that this isn't happening all the time, which means we can pretty much rule out intake problems etc. The way the engine detects the air/fuel ratio is primarily by the lamdba sensors (also called O2 sensors) in the exhaust section. The Lupo has two lambda sensors, one before the catalytic converter, which measures fuel mixture, and one after the cat, which checks to ensure the cat is working correctly. I would suspect there is a problem with the front lambda sensor. It might be a dodgy connection to it, or it might be the sensor itself - they are quite fragile and are a common failure point.
