The rev counter lags behind the actual speed of the engine. Basically, in first gear you're accelerating quicker, so the rev counter is further behind what's actually happening.

The engine reaches ~7100rpm, hits the rev limiter, but the rev counter is still catching up - by the time it does, the engine has dropped back down to ~6900rpm, so it never gets up any higher.

In higher gears, the engine speed increases less rapidly so the rev counter catches up quicker.

There's no advantage to taking a standard GTI engine above around 6700rpm anyway.

cheers for the reply. Just wanted to make sure it wasnt a problem to add to the list lol as long as its a normal occurance im happy smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />. Next thing to get sorted is the wobbling through the steering wheel underbreaking had the balancing done but doesnt seem to have helped greatly! Any ideas? (or mayb again im being paranoid lol)
