  1. Thanks for the tech advice nfbr, I'll get it checked out as soon as I can and let you know how I get on, as you can probably tell I'm not after squeezing as much power as poss out of the car, I just want it running properly
  2. robgti's Lupo sounded the nuts on the RR yesterday, plus he's getting good power, it could be worth asking him.
  3. nfbr, thanks for the info mate, the interesting thing is that if I hadn't put it on the RR I wouldn't been any wiser as the car certainly feels pokey enough and drives perfectly. Would any of the faults you stated result in a notable problem with the engine (flat spot/lumpy etc) because I am not experiencing any snags? Have you got anymore info on how to check the Air Mass Meter, N.. Valves and the whereabouts of the troublesome vacuum pipes? I think I might need to do some checks. The induction kit is going to get binned as soon as I can source a 2nd hand standard airbox, I've never been a fan of them.
  4. Well, it was actually a bit of a disappointment, only 86BHP and 143lbft torque. I was initially rather surprised as I thought it would be closer to 100BHP (I think one of the previous owners (Gman who had all the work done) stated it was 112BHP and 182lbft), that said driving it home put a smile back on my face, the power delivery is so smooth and useable, it'll do for me as long as it maintains 67 MPG (you can't have everything), although a little more power would be nice. Mods are Jetex De Cat exhaust, crappy after market induction kit and a stage 2 custom remap (Jabbasport I think).
  5. Just to let you know that I'm running the Arosa TDI at TSR's Rolling Road day tomorrow. Should be interesting to see if I'm close to the claimed Stage 2 output of 112Bhp and 182 lbft torque that it last recorded. It's quite dependent on variences between different rollers, but hopefully I won't be too disappointed, I'll let you know when I get back. Cheers
  6. Thanks for the positive comments peeps, although I can't take the credit for the car as its not my work which doesn't sit too easily with me, I really feel I should be doing something to it to make it my own but aside from a change of wheels there is nothing else worth tinkering with. That said as of June we will have a new addition to the family and the time owning a modern car free's up is invaluable (another reason for selling the old Mk2 Golf). Thanks for your post with the link Steve, that's squared the insurance away, I can now rest easy knowing that I got the declaration right.
  7. It drives OK now, bags of torque, like I said above the only gash part is the K&N filter which will get swapped for the OEM item soon as the K&N sounds daft and does nothing, I might then consider a change of wheels to some Borbet T's or similar if I can find some.
  8. If you have any more info on it please let me know, I've sussed out a few things from the old bills and taking a look at his posts on this forum, but I'm not sure of the full spec. I'm hoping I covered everything for the insurance when I bought it, and played it really safe declaring absolutely everything. Apparently its approximately 112bhp and 182lbft torque, does this sound right?
  9. Cheers dude. As I said I'm well impressed with the motor, once you get used to the short shift style driving you can get along pretty quickly, its probably as quick as my old 8v Mk2, the torque (180ish lbft) is great, plus it has a fair bit of character for a modern car...
  10. Well I've owned the Arosa now for a couple of months and am loving driving it daily (I bought it to replace my Mk2 GTI when my commute to work miles doubled) so thought it was about time that I posted some pics. Hopefully the link works, I'm a bit of a ludite so fingers crossed. http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww7/Nug...05/DSCF0002.jpg http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww7/Nug...05/DSCF0001.jpg Some of you may recognise it as Gman's car, its pretty much as he finished with it as far as I can tell and I'm pretty happy with it, although I am considering changing the wheels for something less OEM. It's a TDI which has had a stage 2 remap, Jetex exhaust, K&N filter (which may get ditched), lowered 45mm, and has a Cupra half leather interior. All in all not a bad substitute for the old Golf plus it does 65mpg, and for once somebody else has spent all the money and done all the work. All I've done is get the paintwork sorted and clayed and waxed it as it was looking a little tired. Hope you likey. Cheers
  11. At this point I am tempted to use my 20 years experience and qualifications as a professional mechanical engineer, and the equivalent time spent modifying cars correctly in my spare time, to explain both practically and mathematically how the effect of upgrading to G60 brakes will have a resultant enhancement of the overall braking force and modulation with no detriment to the dynamics of the car under braking, and thereby attempt to eliminate any further conjecture and opinion on the subject …but I can’t be bothered.
  12. "280mm discs up front and drums at the back? Good luck!" No probs at all, due to the weight distribution and transfer of load to the front wheels under braking upgrading the fronts will only improve overall braking performance, the only effect it may have is the ability to lock the fronts under extreme braking, however the fact that I will be using a larger disc (bigger effective lever) this will result in an ability to better modulate the braking, and an overall better performing brake. Because of the weight transfer under braking rear brakes whether they be disc or drum are designed to have only 20-30% of the braking force of the front brakes.
  13. Thanks peeps, I'll sort myself the kit out ready for the next time I change the pads.
  14. Already done by the previous owner, the thing is I know how awesome the 280mm set up is on the Mk2 which is a similar weight, the braking power was incredible and had loads of feel, and that was only with standard albeit new VAG parts (discs and pads) so I'm looking to achieve the same result on the Arosa.
  15. Hello, Before anyone asks I have searched to find the answer to this but not really found anything conclusive, so perhaps someone can help me out and give me the definitive answer regarding what is required to fit 280mm brakes to my 02 Arosa TDI, as opinion seems to differ between replacement of hub assembly, and the other solution which is to fit 280mm caliper carriers. Also, I carried this mod out on my old Mk2 Golf and upgraded the master cylinder to a 22mm dia one, does the GTI Lupo have a larger bore ID master cylinder, if so is it compatable with the TDI? One final question, the reason I am interested in doing this is because the brake pedal although not spongy isn't great and has fairly long travel and lacks initial bite, is this normal for Arosa/Lupo brakes? Cheers
  16. I was considering both and test drove a couple of 1.4 sports, but ended up buying the first TDI I saw/drove (last weekend), it has recieved a custom remap and a few other tweeks and beats the petrol hands down for driveability, but does lack the revs, you just have to change your driving style. That said economy was one of my main criteria and a remapped TDI with 110bhp and 180lbft torque is a real motoring bargain @£35/year tax and 60mpg which is what I averaged on a 250 mile run today. I guess it depends what you want from the car, but for me TDI all the way.

    Hello

Hi ya peeps, just bought myself a spanking blue Arosa TDI (which I have just found out used to be G-man85's) awesome motor. To be honest I feel a bit of a fraud as I usually go through the whole process of modding a car myself (Mk2 GTI golf was my last modded motor: http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=150396 ) only to sell it and for someone else to enjoy it, this time its the other way around, as the car is just as I would have done it myself. That said I may try a set of Borbet T's on it, once I have had a couple of small chips a scratch and a light dink sorted. Anyway, hello, hope to may be meet some of you some time, I live in Frome near Bath. Cheers Nugget
