  1. Forgot to say I have also done this year...

Full service, cambelt change and water pump, coolant, NGK Iridum plugs, oil, filter, brake fluid change, clutch fluid change.

    Front wheel bearing.

    Track rod end.

Another 2 front side repeaters (Lost count of how many that have cracked)

Heated stubby mirror glass with no blind spot

    New aerial base with gasket.

New Polo 6R aerial. (Last one ended up on Mums Golf)

New front top mounts and bearings to replace the solid ones.

    Redone the camber and tracking.

    Getting rid of it???

Sort of, couldn't be bothered trying to sell it for the same price as a good standard one, and it's not really possible to convert it back to total standard.

  3. yea lovin it, focus can be quite soft without a flash indoors,to which i found out trying to get pics of my nephew at christmas, but with the flash on it was nice and crisp, but the flash was blowing his face out, so a makeshift flash diffuser using a small poly bag tucked over the flash had to be used till i bought 1 yesterday and solved my issues, managed to get this one though that i quite liked.

Oh right. I bought a proper flash before Christmas, the quality is unreal compared to the pop up flash. Might have posted this before but this is how sharp the lens can be....

Open the flickr link and view it in large. :)

  4. Yip I actually did. I had made a shortlist. Evo9, supra, skyline, rx7 or s15.

Evo and s15 where too expensive. Supra looks a bit too old.

And the only difference between skyline and rx7 was that rx7 tax was cheaper.

lol. Got lucky then as they are not all registered as 1.3's.

Did you factor in the cost of engine rebuilds, oil and back handers to the MOT tester for when it didn't pass the emissions test. :)

  5. well im running my car as a daily/track day car all my engines been done and got 0-60 down to 5or6 seconds so now im just trying to get it stopping and cornering better its poly bushed all round ap coilovers lowered not slammed im just moving on to some alloy brakes (brembo, tarox etc) but roll bars was my next priority and ive been told to concentrate on the rears as the eibach front one makes it too stiff?

    Are you sure?

I would personally get a GTI beam with built in ARB then add a Whiteline ARB. I have the huge RARB on mine that Awesome won't sell to anybody else and on track it's still not stiff enough IMO.

  6. Love it!

    Thanks. :)

i love the look of a GTI out on track, but yours is just soooooo clean.

wish i had some cash for the porsche brakes as i'd snap them up straight away!!!

Cheers, not very clean at the moment. :(

you should convert the boot handle so that the volkswagen badge opens the boot like on the mk5 and mk6 golfs, seen it done before

not sure how hard it would be but would look sweet!

this is a class thread though mate, really like your car!

I was going to, had all the bits to do it, but sold them.

Curious why you refitted the G60's ?

I love the G's, they're well suited to the cars, ample braking, no brake fade.

Just wondering why whip the porky's off though.

I didn't want the salt to attact the finish on them. In terms of braking they were no better than the G60's... Only did them as they look good and nobody else had them. I'm shortly selling the car so might aswell recoup some of the money I've spent on it. I wouldn't if I tried selling it as is.

  8. For 8000, I would get a ok golf 4 with 1.9TDI, and a shabby golf 4 with 1.8T.

I would probably go for a tdi.. problem is at that price, they have very very high milage..

    Or maybe a earlier than 2000 mazda mx5 :)

    WTF!?

Golf Mk4 TDI? What about the other £3-4000? You would get a MINT low milage one for £4k and thats only because they hold there value really well. Unless you mean an Anni'?

R32 Gtst then the money left over spent tyres, suspension bits and drift days.

Wont get much R32 with that money.

I would get(or will probably get) a 2003 S3, 70K on the clock with RS4 rims £6.5k ish or more for a really good one.

Depends on what you need the car for, I want a car that my GF doesn't mind going in for more than 5mins, that I can use every day and get 2 bikes in or 4 friends. Lupo doesn't do that very well. :(

If it was a weekend car it would be something different.

  9. After not keeping on top of the paint over the summer it wasn't really show standard anymore, so decided to do this....

..and came away with a class win, beating a Saxo, R26 Megane and some classic stuff! Very wet day.

Refitted the 280mm G60 brakes, still have the Porsche ones in the garage if anybody is interested.

  10. Fitted a second hand Janspeed stainless exhaust with twin 31/4" tail pipes, waited ages for one to come along as Janspeed don't make them like this anymore. The center section is unsilenced. :)

    JanspeedExhaust.jpg

Fitted all new stainless clamps with stainless bolts and stainless hose clips round each of the exhaust mountings to raise them all up so the exhaust fitted perfectly. :)

  11. Been a while since I have been on here James but I must say you have been busy!!

Looks very nice indeed, won't show Saz as she will be upset!!

    Hi Rich...

Yeah ended up doing alot more than I originally planned. Just sold the BBS RC's I had off you.

How much was the mount..........looks interesting?

I've done 6 of them so far, 5 in GTI's and 1 in a TDI. The one in a TDI was only a Semi-Success though as it increased dash vibration a fair bit.

If you send me your original mount in the post, I'll modify it and send it back for £25 (service + parts) plus Postage. Could probably post it back for £7 or £8 via Courier.

PM me if you are interested however just be aware the turn around is generally 2 days from me receiving the part.

Mount is a mod really worth doing.

Looking at this thread makes me regret selling my GTi sad.gif

Looking good as always mate smile.gif

    Thanks. :)

Boring week at work and always loved this car when I saw it in the flesh (you are anal mate) tho I can see where you get it from with your parents cars. So having a nice read of this

    Cheers Sheldon. :)

    That's an outstanding ride!

    :o:

    :)

Not much to say other than this thread is what made me want to join the site :P Excellent work! Whats the progress on the Loop now?

Not that much really will update this thread soon though.

Havent seen many updates on this for a while James! Had enough?

Sorry mate. :) Yeah, guess I have had enough. Still love the little thing to bits though.

I've got a set of these to fit, I notice you've trimmed them down near the rubber area, did you trim the lower bit too, as the drain hole cut out is in a different area ?

I think I trimmed the bit that sits agaist the door seal, and cut out the area for the slot after it is on the car.

Jesus how have I missed this thread in the past? This car is cleaner than a car that's just finished being built in the factory! How do you even get engine bay so bloody clean?! Very good tasteful mods as well. Very impressive.

Just do abit at a time, get there in the end. Thanks for your comments. :)
