I learnt to drive a bit late and have had a GTI ever since ~ 8 years, albeit I'm on the second one as the first was taken out by a bus. It was MOT day today and just needed a CV joint boot, generally they've both been trouble free driving although I've had to replace 2/2 alternators! Now on a smidge over 102,000 miles meaning I did barely 2000 since the last MOT and to be honest I'm quite happy to keep the mileage down.

I intend to always have one and it puts a smile on my face every time I have a chance to put my foot down 😁

I’ve had just the 1 alternator refurbed but mine is not covering much mileage. Just under 42k now. 😀

I've owned three Lupos for a combined total of 131k miles and around 10 years of Lupo involvement.

I shouldn't have sold my SDI but there we go.

I think that’s one of the main reasons for me not selling mine. I think I would end up regretting it. Then end up buying again

  3. How many of you have owned your Lupo over 10 years now, and still have no plans to sell it?

Ive owned my Raven Blue GTI for 13 years this year.  Rarely gets used due to being on the small side for the family 😂 but can’t bring myself to sell it.

It goes for its MOT every year and I service it myself and then tucked away in a carpeted garage.  Think it’s only seen rain 3 or 4 times in my ownership, I know that’s a bit of a waste and it’s made to be driven etc.   I will try my best to get some driving time in this summer (hopefully)

Checked fuses? When my resistor went it did only work on 4...

Do you have a multimeter? measure if any volts are going to the resistor.

Checked the fuse related to the fan which is 49 I believe. This seems ok and I even tried a different one with no luck. Could there be a different fuse?

Checked a few combinations to see if power was at the resistor but couldn't get a reading.

Cant think what else to check.

  5. Need some advise.

Car went in for a cambelt change and brake fluid service and got it back with the fan no longer working. I have searched and found a lot of people have mentioned theirs have broke before on setting 1-3 and works on 4 max. Mine isn't working on any setting.

Today I have dismantled the dash and checked everything is plugged in fully behind the switch, fan and heater resistor. The fuse is ok.

To rule out the fan I connected it up to a battery and it spins perfectly. Would the resistor stop the fan working completely as people have mentioned it still worked on setting 4 when theirs needed replacing.

Any advice on what else to check please?

  6. Mines completely standard and will remain that way. Its an 05 plate with a genuine 17,300 miles on the clock. I have replaced some exterior trim recently e.g.badges and wheel trims, and that was purely because they had become a little tired due to their age. I used genuine VW replacements.

Must be one of the best around now. 17k and original.

I have all the original parts for mine so might return it to original spec, there is something more appealing when seeing one that looks like it has just left the showroom in original form. Guess it is the age of them that is making them more desirable now as standard.

  7. How many GTI owners have no modifications at all, original spec?

Now the Lupo is getting older the demand is starting to shift towards genuine untouched ones and even though mine has only sensible mods like coil overs, alloys & exhaust it's still nice to see one that is completely original so now thinking about reverting back to oem spec.

Anyone else gone back to original spec?

  8. Well that didn't work out. Is there a change in parts at some point. I got the base from VW and you wouldn't even know it was genuine. Only the bag with the sticker has the VW logo and part number. The actual base says made in Europe and doesn't fit my car.

Is the base different on the GTI's?

This new one is more round, and the square base of it won't even pass through the roof.

Comparing to my old one that looks genuine because it has the VW logo even in the metal base. I'm thinking VW are getting cheap parts not oem. :( having said that £56.50 is not a cheap price

  9. Thanks for the reply.

I already have a new genuine short polo aeriel.

The base is also already removed.

Reason I don't want an old one is because they fade and become perished. Mine doesn't look new anymore.

No issues with the connector or cable. Few people have said the bases can be the blame.

I will only buy genuine parts so don't want a replacement copy.
