  1. i had a upgraded gearbox which had different wiring for the sensors, thats why my reverse light didnt work.

insurance companies wont complain about something thats not a legal requirement.

  2. 1stly you dont need them for MOT....its not tested

    2ndly see 1stly.

for extra confirmation i can say i have driven a car for a number of years without a functioning reverse light.

  3. hey moderation in all things yeah. drama is one.

modified insurance is not calculated on performance only its based on modification. bucket seats/ interior trim changes are classed as modifications, brake conversions make the car safer, but still classed as modification. exterior cosmetics are modifications insurance companies charge for.

  4. i would only be seen in the standard one. wouldnt everyone just be pointing and laughing? like a lot of people do in the town centre where i live, after the exhaust/bass sounds goes by, then enters the merged chuckling of the observers. not for myeslef i add, but for the chav cars like above.

i know i'm going to get shouted at now..

  5. from automobiltechnik.

    level 1: 160bhp 235NM with standard compression and 0.5bar/ 7 psi boost £3947

    level 2: 185bhp 260NM with lowered compression and 0.5bar/ 7 psi boost £4895

    items:

    # KKK/GARRET turbo charger

    # B&B exhaust manifold

    # special B&B parts for adaptation of compression ( for level 2)

    # special B&B charge air cooler, incl. fittings

    # B&B modification of control device and code field adaption

    # special B&B exhaust Y-branch pipe

    # engine adaption

i'm guessing for £1000 extra for level 2 you get dished forged pistons and possibly an uprated thicker head gasket.

or there are NA tune kits

    level 2: 133bhp 160NM £788

    level 3: 140bhp 168NM £1894

    # special B&B cam shafts ( for level 3)

    # modification of electronics

    # optimation and reworking of the electronic code fields

    # modification of ignition- and injection systems

    # optimation of air induction and air flows

    # engine adaption

now i wish i had more savings, this has definately got me in the mood for a turbo kit now for my gti.

i'd probably go for the 160bhp kit myself. 235nm is plenty enough for the standard 6 speed gearbox and clutch.

  6. hmm its still discretionary. if you have a sticker from the garage telling you when your next service is due, that counts as a modification, and insurance would be void in a claim. if you have a drunk yob key your car with a scratch in the paintwork, thats a modification and insurance would be void in a claim. any changes from standard need to be declared. slightly different tyre valve cap... void. the only reason its not seen as an issue is down to the insurance companies not being an arse and voiding all claims, which they could if they wanted to. having a mapped ecu is no more morally wrong than having an air freshner inside the car. both are modifications.

  7. black beauty theme music though.. they have their place visually.

they should be banned from road yes. gives me the idea that the grand national should be on an A road and they have to jump over parked chav boy cars. commentary: whoops there goes a rear wing and neons brought down by number 4 betty swallocks!

  8. On the horses?

    They should all be shot.

Sport for nancy boys and silly hats.

Get some cash on Hamilton ;)

i agree. but still thanks to a parent i could win on the national if "tumble dice" or "contraband" come in.

the horses should not be shot though.

  9. you should ask kw themselves by phone or email. stiffer springs will reduce the amount it can compress by when under load, damping is adjustable to suit on v2 and v3 so best to get those. if your just after looks then why spend the money? just spend £120 on some custom coil springs. you can choose stiffness and lowering height. so you could ask for a 200mm shorter and 15kgf springs. would need some tough shortened shocks though.

  10. are they plumbed back into the airbox? mine will go back into the standard inlet on the gti airbox, i'm just hoping to catch that oil from the TB inlet. the other alternative i could do is to vent it down to the bottom of the engine bay into the flow of the undercurrent of air going underneath the car. i realise to never use a breather filter as its bad for the engine. positioned under the car facing rearwards it should be in a negative pressure area?

  11. ...being the key words here, meaning that I thought; not that I was correct.

You obviously on the otherhand obviously do know what you are talking about, so Claire; buy his modified ECU and you'll be as safe as Apollo 13 or Jean Charles de Menezer or...

    Tara.

i was interested to hear your points aswell.

yeah i would definitely recommend my seimens for any lunar exploration. i was trying to make that innuendo but it needs a little something. ( i didnt say uranus )

  12. did they examine the memory address files on the ECU rom?

i dont think even if the president of America got hit and killed would they ever download the contents of a car ECU just for insurance purposes, the causes and motives of the accident would clearly be separate and more easily deducible.

i may have over egged my 1st point about nasa investigators, i guess any ecu specialist could get the information. but my second point is more logical. it just would never get investigated. so claire you may like to be better safe than sorry, but i wouldnt be concerned about it.
