  1. Through a combination of steady <60mph motorway work and turning off when in long queues, I'm getting circa 71 mpg on average out of mine (1.7SDI SE) which I'm pretty pleased with.
  2. Had a similar issue on my Chrysler Grand Voyager (yeah, I know - couldn't get a more different car than my Lupo). Stripped off the door card, tapped the motor lightly with a hammer and it worked again. They tend to sieze a little due to lack of use. It's a bit of a reach, but if you're out of other options, it might be worth a try. Doesn;t cost anything either! Good luck!
  3. So, I managed to snag an oem single CD player for £10 off the 'bay. Double bonus, it actually works! Now i need an illumination cable. Anyone know of a decent place to get one, or have a spare knocking around? Cheers.
  4. Ok, so I fancy playing CDs in the Lupo, but it has the standard Beta head unit. I don't fancy the add on single din CD player so I'm thinking of getting an RCD 200 from a polo, fox or T5 as I like the blue screen/ red backlight and keeping it looking as stock as poss, whilst simultaneously updated. Mine has a double din sized aperture with a din sized cubby hole under the head unit. What do I need to get the RCD200 in there? Do I need a double din cage, any adapters or anything else to make it work? Plus, any particular types/ages of RCD200 to go for? The seem to range from £40 odd up to £170 on eBay. Some seem to have red screens, some have mp3 etc. Any help gratefully received. Cheers in advance.
  5. Thanks for the reply. Delay due to easter holidays etc! 1 fuse controls washer and wipers. That's intact, si it's either the switch or the motor. Can't help but think if it was the motor, the switch wouldat least power the wipers if not the washer? It's due an MOT so I might just let the garage fix it as part of that. Annoying I can't trouble shoot it though.
  6. OK, a bit of furtling around and the update is that the resistor issue was solved with a used part, but only for a few days. I'll see if another replacement one lasts longer, but failing that, is there a next step to take (lubricate fan bearings etc in case they are causing too much load - seems to spin OK when rotating it manually, but not sure if it should run on for ages when spun). The blowing hot issue was solved randomly by rotating the blower direction knob. When fully clockwise to clear the screen, the heater blows on "surface of the sun" temperature. If you rotate it anti-clockwise it gets progressively cooler until it's on dash vents only setting at which point it's "Polar bear's living room" cold. I wondered if the previous owner had a punt at fixing the blower problem by taking the heater control panel off and just wired it back wrong. Anyone come across this? It's not the main problem to be honest (*cough* "Wash-wipe issue" *Cough*), as I know I can work around cooking myself on the commute to work at least. It'd just be nice to have it work. Cheers, Si
  7. Hi. Got a 2003, '52 plate 1.7 SDi in E spec. Blower only works on speed '4' which I assume to be a resistor issue. Would this also account for the heater only blowing hot, regardless of what the temperature dial is set at? If not, any thoughts? Ta muchly.
  8. As the title says. Wipers work (front and rear, intermittent, slow and fast), but when pulling or pushing the stalk, no washer jets, no motor noise and no wiper movement. Thoughts? Thanks in anticipation.
  9. Hi. I'm new to Lupo ownership, but not VWs (First car was a 1968 camper, then a 1976 camper, 1966 Beetle, 1989 Golf GTi, then an '88 GTi then another '89 GTi 16v, a couple of Polos, a '72 beetle, an '90 Scirocco GT2, couple of Passats, an '04 beetle cabrio (wife's, but lovely) and now a 2003 Lupo 1.7 SDi. New job in Cardiff. Live in Weston super Mare. Trains always late, so needed a car that did a gazillion mpg on the 100 mile round trip daily schlep to and from Cardiffa. Enter diesel Lupo, stage left. Going to run it stock in the nice 14" alloys. Pretty basic other than those (E spec), but über clean and very low mileage. (68k). Three issues have become apparent which I'll post up in the appropriate places, but the headlines are: 1. Blower only works on 4 (resistor issue most likely) 2. Temperature dial seems to have no bearing on the temp of the air from the blower (always very hot) 3. Washers don't work. No noise from the motor, front or rear and no wipe, although normal wiper function is OK. Looking forward to the daily grind in the loop and to hanging around here. Cheers. Si
