I may have posted this in the wrong section firstly and maybe a moderator can remove the "wrong"one. My rev counter on my 1.0l year 2000 lupo is not going back to zero when the engine is turned off. It rests between 20 & 30 and when on tick over hovers just over the 30 mark. Obviously the engine is not doing this amount of revs. It suddenly started today for no reason. Can anyone help me please ?

Not sure if this has happened to anyone else but my rev counter on my 1.0L lupo is resting (when the engine is turned off) at between 2 & 3000 revs. When I drive along it goes up from this point so it appears that the revs are about 6 or 7,000 but the engine is not over revving. I have turned the engine off and on but it still does not go back to zero. HELP!!!!!!!!

I thought about a litre would do it but I have just undone the sump and taken out less than half a normal sized coffee mug an it is back down to where it was before I topped it up ( half way down the dipstick!). So one coffee mug would take it from the bottom of the stick to the top ( or Hal a litre!) I think!!

Today I checked my oil and it was half way down the dipstick, so I popped a small amount of oil in and suddenly it now appears to have gone over the max level!! It seems to me now that it must take a teaspoon of oil to take it from low to full on the dipstick but can anyone tell me roughly how much it should take? Also it seems that when I push the dipstick in to take a reading the result seems to vary somewhat - one of the most difficult cars I've had to get a reading out of!!

Well, a long time in the making! I finally got it checked by another machine which confirmed it was likely to be an EGR problem. I went to vw to see if they had any goodwill and would help towards the cost of replacement but after dodging those flying pigs found out that they could not give a toss! I bought a Egr off eBay including silver pipe and gave just finished fitting it and after clearing the error code, appears to have stayed off after doing about 6 miles and leaving it running fir about 5 mins! Fingers crossed that I have Sussed it!

I've got the same problem and my EGR is only 4 years old! Spoke to vw to see whether they would offer me any goodwill and help towards the cost of replacement again but I might as well have bashed my head against a wall - they could not give a shiny sh**e!

When I go to unlock or lock the door on my lupo, I put the key in and when I turn it to the right or left it does not feel smooth. In fact it feels a bit rough and requires more force than I would expect. I have sprayed WD40 into the lock but it does not seem to have made it any better. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do to get it working a bit smoother?

My 2000 x reg 1.0 SE has done 67,000 and I'm the 3rd owner!

Lol! Looking at the receipt from when it was last done in 2009 by a main vw dealer I assume that it was a genuine part, but as they only have a two yr guarantee don't think I have a leg to stand on! Btw the sunshine sometimes falls in liquid form!!

Have done about 80 miles and some of it thrashed! Light is still on:( looks like maybe a new egr valve. Do they only last 4 years

Well, we stripped the egr and metal breather pipe and they were fairly gummed up! We cleaned out the tube so that it was a lot clearer, an then took off the egr valve and cleaned both sides of it. We put it back on, cleared the check light, ran the scan again and the code came back up showing the same error code I have just found out that The egr valve fitted to my car was changed by a genuine vw dealer in 2009 although title does not look like the one in the photo, and does not have any vw part numbers on it. The cost to do this work at the dealers was £510!!!! Don't really fancy spending that again but am being swayed to thinking that the valve maybe faulty

Will check that out at the weekend, to see if I can make head or tail of the pictures and solve the problem. Incidentally the engine check light came back on again this morning when I was on the way to work, obviously because I have not solved the problem!!

I managed to get one of those and connectd it to my sons htc phone after downloading an app from the android store called OBD car doctor. It came up with two error codes as follows: P0404 exhaust gas recirculation control circuit range/ performance Pending P0304 cylinder 4 misfire detected I can understand the misfire as I had to drive through some flooding on the way to work this morning and the poor lupo coughed and spluttered a bit! However I don't know what the other bit means or whether it is anything serious, I pressed the clear button ( so the check light has now gone) but I would like to make sure that the other code is resolved if necessary If You kind folk could give me some advice I would be truly grateful!

Just had a quote from a body shop to do my roof and they want approx £650-£700 do do the job! Looks like I'll be giving it a go when the weather improves then!!

Just noticed that you would have to take out the bolt that holds the seat belt in place to get the plastic trim off Any joy?

I have had a look and hope that this item on eBay 151166531226 will work on my lupo and it cones from the uk which is a result! If anyone has the time I would get eternally grateful if someone would check if this type of thing would work on my car.

Thanks for that, they look pretty reasonable an I think if I got one I would be able to get it working and get the results I need. The majority appear to come from china and I guess it is luck of the draw if you get charged by customs when it comes into this country.. From memory, when I have bought items from china in the past, the seller writes on the customs declaration form that it is a gift and this reduces the cost considerably. If anyone has bought one of these, what was the approximate customs charge?

Had a feeling that you would say that! If this is a regular thing is there a device I can get to plug into the connector? If so what is it called and what sort of cost am I looking at?

When I went to take my 1.0l 2001 lupo for a drive the engine management "Check light" came on and stayed on, is there a simple solution to solve this problem? Any help appreciated.

Do you have the plastic cover for the drivers side seat belt, it's the part that fixes to the pillar between the door window and rear window just above shoulder height.

Does anyone know how to get the black gutter in fills out in case I fancied having a go at treating the corrosion myself? Do they just pull out?
