  1. It's all well and good trying to use different occupations and where you park it.

But *if* you say you park it on your drive/in the garage, and one night it gets stolen, and an assesor comes out, how can you blag its kept in a garage if you don't have one??

No point in lying about it, your insurance is based on the risk you project to them, and is rated on that, people that lie and invalidate claims just make it more expensive for those who are telling the truth ;)

  2. This is the kind of thing that if you know you are going to modify a car you need to go to a specialist insurer (such as the contributors of this thread)

The majority of the schemes we have offer cosmetic modifications (stickers, de wipered, debadged, interior changes) with no cost at all, or maybe in some cases (if other changes being made at the same time) a £25.00 admin fee.

A lot will even cover coilovers, wheels and the like for just a £25.00 admin fee.

A recent example, we had a car come through with no mods listed, photos were supplied and mods weren't acceptable on that scheme, we cancelled that policy and got a new policy with all mods declared (including air suspension) for £150 cheaper than the original quote.

Sometimes it is worth just being honest and checking with your insurance company

  3. Is your car a star?

Would you love to see your pride and joy in print?

HIC are looking for customer's cars to star alongside some of our own staff members cars in a professional photo shoot. You will have the chance to have your car photographed in the grounds of the picturesque Bury Lodge (www.burylodge.com) as well as rolling shots of you and your vehicle.

There will be food and drink available for you to enjoy on the day and we will send you copies of all the pictures we take.

The photo shoot will be taking place on 10th August from 11am until approximately 4pm. If you are interested in taking park, please drop us your name and number and details of your vehicle (including a photo if possible) to webteam@hertsinsurance.com

  4. i sold my lupo with a dent in the spare wheel well.

i also ground away quite a bit of the rear tow eye

i had an Idea or having a metal disk with an Eccentrically drilled hole (off center) then a threaded bar and then an identical disk of the same size with the hole in the center.

put the eccentric one over the bottom coil on the spring seat, put the bar through and add a nut on top, then put the centered one underneath with a nut.

as if to clamp it down. seems a bit more Pro than some cable ties

I like the sound of this... Might have to give this a go!!!

But a dent in your spare wheel well??

  5. everybody does it. if you remove them Completely you will need to fasten them Down the the axle some how. some people use cable ties, some use hose clamps.

Yeah I have read this and can see how to do it. I drive 3 miles to the train station for work, and those 3 miles are country road, don't want to go destroying the underside like the corrado

  6. Managed to get the arch lining removed from the loop today.

Anyone explain what the styrofoam stuff is? I took it out. The arch was sat on the tyre with no room between the tyre and arch at all!

Not sure what's happened to it but the passenger side is missing a fair amount of trim behind the arch lining. But when we had the bumper off there was a ding on the support bar. Hopefully nothing too bad..... :/

  7. After months and months of me moaning that I want to be behind the wheel of a mk2 again.. I receive a text a work from Chris that reads...

"OHHH HI, YOU'RE SOON TO BE THE PROUD OWNER OF A WHITE MK2 JETTA"

And he then picked me up from work in this!

    null_zpsea15a157.jpg

    A 1.6 Spazmatic on a weber carb.

The plan all along has been to either get a Jetta or a Corrado to either TDi or mTDi. So after finding a suitable car it's been decided that its going TDi with most likely one from a mk3.

However. After giving it a good clean today it has come to light what an absolute bargain Chris has found. It's rough round the edges but so clean and straight!!

It's needs some attention on the bodywork but that's to be expected.

It needs to have some coilovers fitted as its just ridiculously high at the minute!! And the interior wil be changed too as it looks like someone has applied polish to their arse and smoothed the material in the seat to a plasticy smooth finish!!

So pleased to have this and cannot wait to get on with it!

  8. yes, i have PM'd adam a few times regarding 'tweaking' my car.

I would have loved to have bought his when it was for sale complete,

it was up for what i paid for mine, but mine was a bit more spongy underneath.. :(

fancy updating this thread with the Jetta too?

Haha... I might just copy in mine for now and do the two cars in the once thread.

Yeah Adam and Chris get a few people messaging them about the tweaking. Its all I hear about

  9. Anyone care to explain what an mtdi is?

TDI engine (so Direct injection), from a MK3 or Mk4 golf (non PD) with a Mechanical Diesel pump (usually land-rover 200/300TDI pump)

With the tuning simplicity of a Mechanical pump you can imagine how quick these things are..

Im sure LHotte could elaborate more, but that's what ive gathered from them.

When i get more money coming in i'll probably build one up myself.

    Pretty much exactly that.

Chris and Adam and Joe (if you use edition they are Injected, Motorphysco and the pinstriper) all have so much knowledge about the diesel engines and how they work.

Although Adam has now sold his mTDi engine and is going to a 9a in his Mk2.

I've driven Chris' van a few times and it is unbelievable to drive!! So much fun!!!

  10. Im pretty sure an Mtdi Sdi would work, 1.9 manifolds, a bit of modification ..

there's a 1.7 on here with a turbo strapped to it, but wasn't very good as apparently after a certain amount of power the clutch started slipping and uprated parts for an SDI are pretty expensive if you can find them..

wouldn't mind my GTD lump in a Lupo, wouldn't be particularly fast, or anything. but cool i suppose.

The SDI engine would need some SERIOUS work to get any sort of power from it.

Its just not viable. And I can't justify putting in an older engine (Mk3 Golf) into a Lupo. Just doesnt make snese.

This is why Chris bought me the Jetta, something to make into a nice diesel motor for fun times :D

  11. They're not difficult to make, I'd say the biggest arse ache was modifying the bulkhead to make space for the passat 1Z potentiometer pedalbox and all that took was a bottle jack, some wood and balls.

This is what were going to be doing to my new Jetta. Think we are hoping to get the 1Z in it as it's a 1.6 auto on a weber at the minute and I need something fast and smokey

Chris did try and think of doing the mTDi to the Lupo but it just wouldn't work!

Rich enjoys making all sorts into diesels.

    Sounds like my house!

  12. The Van and the Black mTDI Mk2's are my favorite cars on edition.

one day ill build up one of them engines.

Either that was an expensive gearbox or a very cheap car

The Van is my boyfriends and the black one on the Zenders is Adams who we live with.

They are all incredible cars (Joe's included) and the work that has gone into them is unreal, even the super long threads on edition don't truely reflect these guys talents'

And you can go with the latter ;)

  13. So after an eventful journey with the Corrado, it ended up going to Death row with several other Corrados....

A few months later and Chris finding me an absolute bargain... I picked up the most HIDEOUS Lupo.

Standard height. Aftermarket 5 spoke fake splits. Roof bars. Stickers. Something like this...

    null_zpsaeabd3e6.jpg

    null_zps4ade492a.jpg

However, I don't have much luck picking cars up. You may remember that I filled my rado up with diesel within minutes of owning it. Well within minutes of owning this... The gearbox went.

Anyone with a knowledge of Lupo's might know how hard it is to find a gearbox... But after chris spent the same as what we spent on the car on a gearbox again... We were on the road again! Like this!

    null_zps944d2f4e.jpg

Eventually after finding the rest of the parts everything was fine and starting sorting little bits.

    Double Din head unit

Bung in the rear window for the wiper blank...

    And at last...

    null_zps0be6adb7.jpg

    null_zpsa78385f0.jpg

    null_zps99f6d0a4.jpg

With the infamous van of Chris'

    null_zps9affb544.jpg

And finally.. We got the wheels off Adams mk2 and test fit them this evening so hopefully should be rolling on these soon...

    null_zpsc5a66c02.jpg

Not quite sure whether there will be much more done to it as it is just a cheap daily (1.7) and NO power but still such a great little run a round!!
