  1. The AFH head on a GTI bottom end if great for more tunability but i'm 90% sure the water/oil ways don't line up between the two so a custom gasket will be required i'd say...or some slight rethinking on how the two can coincide. John- do you know what the limits are with the standard ECU? you know i'm not aiming for your powerband...i want to remain slightly lower around 180-200bhp...just wondering if the OEM setup can maintain the performance. Are the total seal rings made from a forged material then? also...the specs that JE now have on the corrected pistons, please tell me they can re-create them for mine... the extra will be worth it in the end...and the end is so quickly coming closer!!
  2. Minor setbacks dude...its things like this i wanted to wait till your done to avoid falling in that trap myself. The OEM ecu remap- what potential can be achieved by this compared to standalone? has Emerald managed to wangle that kit that allows for fly by wire yet? if the cost outweighs the potential, then i'd go for standalone...this budget now skyrockets i'm guessing to 6k or more? Are the rods with you now and theyre ok?
  3. the clutch looks great, is it semi street? or full race? i can't wait till you button this back up and tell me its worth it! lol.
  4. John, what cams did you fit to it to need the tools? I'm wondering because i dont plan on changing the cams but do i need to remove them to respray/powdercoat the rocker? It'll be an arse without the tools. Also now been told that the crank doesn't pick up the oil much on the polo GTI so reaping the benefits of a knife edged crank could be minimal (beneficial for high spooling of engine parts due to weight loss and higher engine braking) keep me posted when your pistons and rods arrive, i'll place an order shortly after bud.
  5. THAT sir sounds IMMENSE!!! i want that sound real bad...i'm living on this forum right now lol.
  6. the other reason for the above is because you would run a toothed belt instead of a ribbed...thus meaning less belt slip and more power
  7. John..cheers for the pms dude...i'm now working on a way to finance this as quickly as possible LOL. Take a look at this thread on CP, what i want you to see is the PSD (G40 conversion) cnc machined piece that creates the room for extra stabilisor pulleys and a tensioner. What do you make of this: http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/lofiversio...hp/t129790.html Also, that raceland is a poor fit...it may touch the side of the sump like it does on mine, so you might need to either machine the sump a couple mm, put up with it or try to bend the straight on the downpipe. Lovin that forge item mate! Am i guessing that these dont need to be divertor type then like they do on a 20vt.
  8. keep it up John...looks amazingly clean considering the weather right now lol. Did you remove the cams to paint the rocker then or are you planning on some mild cams being introduced? Also, can you not seperate the manfold sensor into various standalone sensors to avoid the problem or is Andy definately working on that bypass box for sure? Also, did he have any problems mapping a fly by wire throttle? What kind of bhp will you see with 4psi? ALSO...i know i'm asking a lot of questions but what do you have in mind in regards to gearbox integrity? Do you know offhand where the weak spots are and maybe looked into increasing the bearing strength, replacing rivets with bolts...I'd love to know if synchro's can be swapped for vr synchro's to give a longer final drive and a maybe a quicker gear change 1-4 using clower ratios. I'm gutted no one with a gti polo is in this boat, not that i know of...
  9. does no one have the atari jaguar?? its wierd how this post is up cos i'm converting the theme music for lotus challenge (amiga 1200) from mod files to wav...love that old school electronic beat..lol.
  10. I'd say it would be...but isn't it genius how the oil pick up is driven by the crank shaft itself...not chain driven like it is on a 1.4 16v AFH engine. What did you need to do to have the correct pistons and conrods made? send them what you have? Also- who do you think can decypher the OE ECU? keep us posted on that, i have a spare gti ecu i can send away. Just to add, you can use an ARC head which uses two oil pressure senders and use a Y splitter to run 2x oil senders from the side outlet which would mean you can run the pipe out the side of the charger straight instead of bent.
  11. Jamie- why the cable throttle though?? doesn't fly by wire work with this conversion then? I thought the pistons and conrods in the 1.4 are made exactly the same way and of the same materials, I'm looking into getting forged pistons etc...this is an ongoing project i've decided to do on the side. My engine is already in pieces: www.picturetrail.com/dubbprince
  12. Hi, I've just followed this thread build from the 1st page and i'm really impressed with the work, time and effort gone into this... Do you have a few pics of how you routed the ribbed belt? also maybe a photo of the bracketry UNDER the charger? Did Storm say its safe to run the charger on low boost without having to change internals? Basically i have a 1.6 GTI converted mk4 and i'm currently in the process of rebuilding the engine because i myself threw a rod by hitting a puddle and hyro-locking the engine. Since then i have found another GTI to drop in to get it running again but really wanna look into M45 charging the other engine. You have really done an excellent job with the photos, Apart from the charger, custom piping and brackets, the decompression gasket and using the GTI injectors, was there anything else? It would be fantastic if you produced a list of parts required, cost etc at the end of this mate...just so others know if its cost effective to go down this route. Thanks and keep up the good work dude!! Sanj.
