  1. There is a knob which dictates beam strength, if I go past number 2 I hear a disgraceful squealing noise from under the bonnet. Has anyone come across this before?
  2. Cheers mate! Removed the spark plug, well what was left of it lol. Absolutely destroyed! The electrode end had vanished
  3. Hello, I am trying to rectify a misfire and was wondering if anybody could help me locate cylinder 2? Is it as simple as 1-2-3-4 looking from the front of the car? Its an arosa 1.0
  4. Is it safe to use them on the 1.0's, though. I have heard people doing it on all the others.
  5. Is it as good as the Halfords one? I go to costco every couple of weeks
  6. Was trying to remove my EGR valve but managed to strip one of the bolts and can't remove it. I now want to blank it off instead. I don't mind about warning lights staying on etc. I can only find the blank plates for the diesel.
  7. You guys reckon this then? http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_862455_langId_-1_categoryId_255215 LOL, knee pads are already on my list. Was looking under my pedals for signs of a poor pedal box. Was kneeling down on concete. ARGH.
  8. Someone must have an idea? Iv'e got my test on Thursday and want it to be running
  9. Yeah, I'll do that regardless. I am intrigued to hear some prices you guys have paid though, and also if it could just be the clutch cable I guess.
  10. Cheers for the replys guys, I went ahead and bought a 1 litre arosa in imperial blue (the aggressive looking one) I'll probably get my moneys worth from it as the MPG is half decent and I won't drive it through a hedge. (hopefully) I paid £400 for it. Needs a new clutch though, i think. And a new exhaust as it is blowing. The EGR needs cleaning too Looking to get the repairs done myself, apart from the clutch as it will probably be a ballache for somebody like me.
  11. I bought an 1.0 Arosa this week and the clutch is heavy. Creaks under the bonnet too. Iv'e looked under the dash at the pedals and don't see any pedal box problems. How much does it cost to replace a clutch if I provide the parts? Cheers
  12. Looking at the picture it looks like I have removed a bolt which didn't need removing? Ugh this is a pain!
  13. Arosa 1.0S (It has a coil pack if that makes a difference) My EGR needs a clean so I removed 4 bolts which were in place using the 'Alan Key' type and two more which were connecting the metal pipe to the EGR. I think there is one more than needs to be removed. Its incredibly stiff and very awkward. I have damaged the thread of the bolt trying to remove it This thing is a pain! I thought it would be very easy to remove. Has anybody removed one before who can shed some light on the bolts to remove? And how difficult did you find it? Also, how to remove the damaged bolt in a horrendous place? I'm sure there are some genius solutions. Cheers
  14. Are you speaking from experience? I'm pretty sure it isn't. The biting point is normal, all the pedals are level and gears select normally. Do you know how to adjust the clutch cable on them?
  15. hello, I have recently bought a Seat Arosa, and am very keen on fixing things up myself when they need doing. Could anybody recommend any basic tools I should get to start myself off? Lets assume I have no tools. Currently on my list: Socket set------http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROLSON-TOOLS-40-PIECE-SOCKET-SET-1-4-3-8-DRIVE-SOCKET-SET-/360588484580?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item53f4bf9fe4 Axle Stands------http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pair-of-3-Ton-Tonne-Heavy-Duty-Car-Caravan-Vehicle-Axle-Stands-Stand-Trolley-New-/310579902167?pt=UK_Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item48500136d7 Torque wrench------http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-2-DRIVE-TORQUE-WRENCH-10-80-Ft-lbs-WITH-1-2F-to-3-8-M-ADAPTOR-BLACK-CASE-/140753480248?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item20c58faa38 Alan Keys------http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/30-PC-HEX-KEY-ALLEN-ALAN-ALLAN-KEY-SET-ROLSON-TOOLS-NEW-FAST-DISPATCH-/170734627618?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item27c093ab22 Screw Drivers------Meh! There is probably loads more... Ideas and advice are welcome. What are your thoughts on the quality of these items?
  16. Nice one i'll keep my eyes peeled. I'm not too bothered about the EGR light staying on. It's not a fail MOT is it?
  17. Cheers mate, i'll get on it and let you know how I get on. Need to buy some carb cleaner and then figure out how to delete the EGR too. I'm thinking of deleting it regardless of whether I fix the Valve or not. If anyone has done this before I am interested to know their method. Anything I need to beware of or remove before I remove the EGR?
  18. Oh it is the EGR valve. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-LUPO-POLO-SEAT-AROSA-1-0-EGR-VALVE-GENUINE-VW-030131503F-12-MONTH-WARRANTY-/281037953304 Has anybody removed one before from the 1.0 Arosa? I'm planning on giving it a good ole' clean or delete if necessary. I'd like to do a tutorial aswell with pictues if there isn't one for this model. I think I will need to remove then engine cover but there's spark plugs running along it and would probably need removing. I don't want to get them mixed up
  19. This is located on the right hand side of the engine, quite far back. I believe it needs a good clean! Iv'e got p0404 and p0302. Both are linked to the egr so I am hoping it's this. My exhaust is also blowing too. I am planning on completely removing the EGR if it does not clean up. Also there is a open pipe sticking out, is this correct? Thanks
  20. Hello, I bought a 2001 1.0 Arosa yesterday in Imperial Blue. It's in really good condition. My only concern is that clutch is really heavy, its got 93k on the clock and don't think it has ever been done. I am very far away from being an amateur mechanic, but I think it could be the clutch cable. I hear all this about the pedal boxes and pray it is not. The clutch doesn't sit low or high so I guess its not? besides all that i'll get some pictures up in the coming days after its had a clean and stopped raining. Cheers guysh!
  21. Thanks mate that's brilliant! Pretty much hit the nail on the head! You reckon a plate with a heat shrink will do anything?
  22. Are you able to permanently remove the EGR valve on the 1.0's? I have read you may need to mess around with the ECU or change some wiring around as the lack of the EGR will report a fault to the lupo thus making it a non-runner. How difficult is it to achieve this and would it fail an MOT? Cheers guysh
  23. I had an opportunity to get a Tdi with 66k miles on it for 2k. Standard in mint condition but didn't have a cambelt change in its life! I didn't buy it because of this and then it sold for almost £2,300 in the end How much are you selling yours for, mate?
  24. Hello, Iv'e been perving on this forum for a few weeks now I have a crash course booked for next week and hopefully will pass my test I really want a lupo or arosa for my first car. I'm am torn between the 1.4 tdi and 1.4 sport. I have considered the One litres but that will just frustrate me within weeks because of the lack of power. My question to you aficionados is what should I get?! -Insurance on both is practically the same -Tax is a major difference -I doubt i'll be travelling too much on the motorways (I have no reason to do so other than if I go on holiday maybe) -Price difference is almost £1,000 between the sport version and tdi version -Most of my travelling will be less than 20 minutes each way -Diesel is more expensive -Diesel seems much easier to drive -If I got a tdi I would remap it -Diesel much better MPG I'm hoping you guys who have had experience with either or both of these cars can help me decide. One thing I am not so clear on is what the MPG would be like running the car from a cold start. I have heard that the diesel takes 10 minutes to heat up and up to then the MPG will be drastically reduced. This sounds a little pessimistic to me. Can anyone clarify how long the diesel and petrol takes to warm up? Thankoooo Richard
