Need a new box, selling the LSD to a mate who's doing a mk1 polo conversion, I'm looking for a better mpg figure for motorway driving as I do a lot of travelling! /: I messaged rich to see if he would know as I think I've seen posts about gearbox stuff from him.. No avail yet, he hasn't replied lol
  2. Anybody know if the 1.4tdi diff will go into the gti 6 speed box? Thanks. Matt
  3. And not all that responsive tbh! It's a good little car but it was about as thirsty as my gti, well on how I drove it :L
  4. Also, does anyone know if its possible to get different diff's for the 6 speed? I'm looking for one with a lower ratio.
  5. Right guys. I've made up a spreadsheet within Excel that'll allow you to see the speed output in MPH at a given rev amount in any gear. I'd upload it to this but I honestly haven't a clue how! All I need is the ratios for the GTi 5 speed Box then it'll have both of the GTi boxes on it. I'm also inputting the lower down gear boxes in, so the 1.0,1.4, 1.4Sport, 1.4 tdi, 1.7SDi. If anyone has a copy of the gear and final drive ratios then that would be super if you could send them over! Many thanks! Matt
  6. Bl**dy nora its been a long time since i've had anything good to update! So, i'll start with the bad things. Back in December around the 15th, i was driving back from watford, about a 90 mile trip. When i started the journey she ran like a sack of sh!t which was fun, although when hot she ran ok so i skittishly drove her home not pushing at all just cruising at 60. Got about 3 miles from my home and the ABS light came on and then went off and a horrible grinding noise started! This point i was like crap just get me home so i managed to get her home and all was good until i went to turn her off.. She wouldnt stop running. So i stalled her, ok good everything went off. Dipped the clutch and bam. started up again! WTF!? This point stalled her and hurriedly disconnected the battery, whilst this was happening smoke was pouring out the bonnet! Then she got left for all of xmas until about two weeks ago when finally had the inspiration to work on her! Removed the rubbish aftermarket alarm that caused the fault! And then she started up first time!! Winning! Also couple of updates on what i've got planned... I've bought heated leather interior!!! And ive got a 6 speed box on order to fit!!!!

  13. Hi all, wondering if anyone can help me out and post a pic of their immo chip in their key? Weird request I know! Also do people know if the black plastic key that comes with the key has an immo chip in it too?? I read somewhere that it does... Thanks in advance! Matt
  14. Right I suppose I'll stop poking my nose in then Found these values for gear ratios for the 6 speed box. Gonna have a look at ETKA and see if i can find any more data on them. Transmission / Gear ratio1th gear ratio:3,17:1 2th gear ratio:1,96:1 3th gear ratio:1,39:1 4th gear ratio:1,14:1 5th gear ratio:0,93:1 6th gear ratio:0,78:1 With the final drive being 4.19:1
  15. Then I do have an LSD as when the car was in the air both wheels turned when one was. As for the driving, I wouldn't know what the difference was to be honest as I've not driven anything but Lupo's! Brilliant, thanks for clearing that up for me Rich! Also, what do you do as a profession? I don't trust Dblock's answer lol!

Quick question then, the standard test to see if it's an open or LSD would be to jack the front of the vehicle up and put the car into 1st or any gear and try and then turn the wheel, if just one wheel spins then it's an open diff, right? But if both spin it generally means that it's an LSD yeah? Anyway that's slightly off topic, I'd consider changing the ratios, I'll have to look into what the standard is now and then have a think lol, I do a lot of long journey driving as I'm part of a race team and we go all over the place so I'd be looking for a comfortable 6th gear to sit at 80. Because realistically that's the kind of speed I'll be siting at! So just to confirm, it's a direct swap, I don't need new drive shafts or a new linkage or anything and it mounts using the standard ones I have?
  17. The standard one in the 5 speed? I'm not sure what the history of the car is tbh, it's a 2001 fhf gearbox I think... Off of the top of my head?

  19. Bit of both really, my synchro for third is on it's way out and If I'm replacing the box then I thought about upgrading to the 6 speed, one other thing! Does the 6 speed have a limited slip diff in it? As my 5 speed does now. Just wondered if it was a standard, if I was going for the longer 6th then I'd probably swap it out with another gear as the 5th gear and 6th gear in each box respectively is pretty similar ratio wise.

  22. Found a couple of threads that say it can be done, then a few that say it's more than just the box needed. Last thing posted was rich saying it's a simple swap, if someone can just clarify that for me!
