  1. QUOTE(tdwindustries)
I was flashed 2 weeks ago - didnt get anything yet.

I think they are good to be honest - its a huge amount of work and as twisty says they are always working nights.  What a great job they are doing too - ahead of time and a great road surface.

    True, true.

Of course the irony is - the smooth surface makes you want to drive faster! doh. laugh.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

  2. QUOTE(snoopstah)
I wouldn't be too worried - whenever I drive the M25 from the M3 to the M4, I see the Gatsos going off all the time.  They must run out of film within an hour of being changed!

It certainly used to be the case that if you got flashed through temporary roadworks on a motorway, you got a fine but no points.  However, that may have changed, so don't quote me on it.

I certainly hope that's the case! Without a doubt it's taught me a lesson....have been driving like a pensioner since (not in the sense that I've been swerving from lane to lane without noticing mind!) laugh.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

  3. QUOTE(bossjohnc)
Was it a roadside gatso or one of the ones mounted on the signs? If the latter, I think you'd have to be extreemly unlucky to get a ticket.

However I know a lot of that area is covered in roadworks at the moment - you might not be so lucky if it was a roadside one...

All I remember is that the flash came from the left side of the road behind me.....there were several lanes of traffic so not even sure if it specifically went off just for me (I was definitely speeding though!)........certainly wasn't from directly behind me.

  4. QUOTE(bossjohnc)
No valid reason for the 40MPH speed limit?

    No roadworks? Are you sure?

I expect it'll be the standard 3 points and £60. (If anything that is)

I don't recall seeing any road works....but even so, that surely can't apply at gone 9pm on a Saturday night? Fair enough during the day or in rush hour......bizarre.

  5. ARGH!

Was driving my g/f back from the airport Saturday night, about 9.15pm I get flashed twice on M25....was doing approx 55mph in 40.

Really quite annoyed as it's 4 lanes of light traffic, clear/dry conditions with no valid reason for temp speed limit.

What am I likely to get for doing so? I expect points and a lovely fine, anyone had any experience with this ridiculous system? Is there anywhere to contact to find out if I have been caught? To be honest, the wait will kill me....I'd rather know now if I have been done!

  6. Ultimately it's these little things that grate on the nerves

Now that my warranty is ending, it's my money paying for the repairs - mostly at dealer rates

£90 a hour for diagnostics? Yeah right

The two most expensive things I don't trust are the gearbox and the pedal box - I don't fancy paying to have either repaired

Quality is down in the Mk5 Golf too, and the current Polo

When it comes to the crunch will I buy another VW? err no

It's all well and good passing yourself off as a quality brand, it's twice as bad when you fail to meet that expectation

Here, here (is that how you spell that?)

    My sentiments EXACTLY

I don't care that my issues are seen as "major" by some....at the end of the day, my car has been into the garage 12 times in 15 months....that is not what I expected when I bought a VW.....a brand name I associated with trouble free, sturdy and reliable motoring. I was better off in my Peugeot! All I know is, this experience has throroughly tainted my opinion of VW, and I don't have any kind of bond with my car anymore....gutted.

  7. They go up half way then stop and come bak down and then u go 2 put them up again and they dont automatically go up? is that a greasing issue then?

Mine did that.....motor was ****ed to the window. I couldn't even get the window to shut.....I'd open it half way and it got stuck, then died in me completely. Had to restart the car to close it! weird.

  8. Seem owning a VDUB will get you involved with the men in the white coats alright. All the rattles and things going wrong!!!!!11

    LOL x 10!

Quite right...I feel like I'm going insane, and the typical response I get from the garage is apathetic to say the least.

I used to think VW was a rather upmarket brand name, and the cars would be engineered to perfection....how wrong was I! This has been my 2nd worst car I've owned so far, just behind my crappy old L reg Escort!!!

  9. You mentioned - point 7 to be precise lol. That you had a squeak from the passenger seat ive got this as well really is annoyin, so i may need a new seat?

I ended up needing a new base to the seat...they tried rebuilding/replacing the back part.....if you have warranty still go and complain!!!

I've got the customer service number and will be calling tonight for some kind of compensation.....it's not acceptable!

  10. I wouldn't say the loop is the most unreliable thing on the road! It's not too late for an aftermarket warranty, you can start them on any car, in or out of warranty as long as it's less than 10 years old and under 100K. Read the small print though!

    I certainly will do.

Didn't mean to put anyone off....the Lupo is a great little car, it's just that I haven't had a 2 month stretch where it hasn't been in the garage....it's really rather annoying! The pedal box problem alone took nearly a dozen repeat visits to fix! Unbelievable.

  11. I have never owned a car that wasn't under warranty since I sold my old beetle - I'm jinxed as a person - if you feel you are too, it's worth looking at an aftermarket warranty, they don't cover everything though, so read the small print!

I had about £9000 worth of work done on my last car with an AA aftermarket warranty.

By the way, is your squeak definately coming from your cupholders? If so, have you tried putting something (e.g. insulation foam) between the bottom of the cupholders and the tray running the width of the dash?

If you tap the underneath of the cup holder there's a rattle.....I've stuffed a rag between the back of the cup holders and the unit below, that seems to work!

£9000....jesus, did they have to `re-build` your motor? what were you driving?!

  12. Gah!

    I despair, I really do!!!

Just had a call from the VW Stealership, who tell me that my "epc" warning has flagged two problems -

1- Brake light switch ****ed....meaning I was driving around with no brakes for a few days...nice....£40 to fix

2- Indicator swtich ****ed too, wasn't registering right signals...£120 to fix that.

I swear to god, I have the most jinxed Gti...unless anyone knows better. Here's a list of what's gone wrong so far (I've only had it 1 year and 3 months but it's a Y plate)

1- Pedal box needed replacing due to clicking clutch

2- Multiple problems with alarm not working

3- Electrical issues with drivers side sidelight....connection dodgy

4- Electric windows went kaput on drivers side, wouldn't do up

5- Fan in engine compartment failed

6- Squeak from cup holder, persistent and still not resolved

7- Squeak from passenger seat.....needed whole seat replaced to fix

Not a bad list huh? thank god all of `1-7` was fixed under warranty, but it doesn't exactly bode well for my next year of driving....I've gotten to the point now where I'm actually scared to drive the car for fear of what might go wrong next! laugh.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Do I have any kinds of grounds to complain on? as you can imagine, I'm not a proud VW owner and would certainly never buy another one!

A shame, because when my car runs fine I love her.....but stuff like this certainly ruins a relationship.

  13. Not too sure about gold!! Each to their own though... Could depend on the colour of the car and other detailing I guess.

    LOL - only joshing.

Would defo be interested in the old Anthracite though, that looks smart as hell!!! seen 1 or two other silver Gti's around Basingstoke so time to do something to stand out from the (albeit tiny) crowd! laugh.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

  14. Just curious!

Got a flyer through the post this morning, a place offering to bead blast/repair and `re-spray` alloys.....was thinking of going for Anthracite coloured (unless you guys can suggest better!) for my Silver Gti.

Anyone had this done/know of someone that's had it done/have links to pics??? Plus, what's a reasonable amount to expect to pay?

    Cheers! biggrin.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

  15. QUOTE(snoopstah)
Sounds like it could be the brake switch - causes the engine to reduce power if it thinks it's on...

    Under warranty?

It is almost as if I'm tapping the brake....it just occasional fluctuates.....there's no engine knocking or noises from it....sounds fine....but have definitely noticed a difference and the the light appeared laugh.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

    No, not under warranty...bummer sad.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

  16. just pisses me off you come on any forum on the internet and people just slag of techs. a lot of you seem to think it is really the easiest job in the world and for some reason techs should be exempt from making mistakes

My derogotary feelings towards the VW staff at my local stealer is born from experience though! They are incompetant to say the least, hence the reason for this thread in the 1st place!
