  1. I thought my world had come to an end the other month, when the coil-shaped light in the speedo started flashing but after a couple of hours driving it stopped. Then last week, it started up again. 'OMG', I thought, 'my Lupo is about to expire!' but it didn't. Then it dawned on me that my brake warning lights aren't working - including the high-level lamp, so I bought a couple of new bulbs, just-in-case, and popped them in y'day, and - you've already guessed it, haven't you? Still no brake warning lamps... so I checked the fuses - all of them, cos I couldn't work out which one is for the brake warning lamps. All the fuses are OK, so that more-or-less leaves the pedal switch to check - any tips as to how to reach the switch!
  2. After I walked into the open tailgate of my other-wise totally scrumptious '04 TDi I figured something was wrong... The gas struts have definitely wandered past their 'best-before' date!; I can see I can buy a pair on-line for about twenty quid - is it easy to pop the old ones off?
  3. I'm about to replace my old and slightly dim front headlamp bulbs and just need a little advice about the removal of the 2 headlamp units... I'm fairly clear that the whole lamp box has to be tilted forward in order to give access to the cover secured by the metal clip. I was going to do this fairly straightforward job y'day but after I released the 2 bolts that loosen the lamp units, I can see that there's not quite enough room for the box to move up and forward - which bits of trim need to come off and where are the fasteners? Thanks :-) '04 Tdi, BTW...
  4. Have just discovered there's nothing much wrong with the base - it's just the wand that's perished so I'm off to ebay-azon to get a new wand thingie :-)
  5. While my headliner's out (Open Air trouble...), I'll replace the manky old aerial - any suggestions about which product to replace it with - or else which product to avoid??
  6. Revisting the Open Air issue now that the autumn rain reminds me the roof is not quite closed... I've tracked down a Bristol-based (like me) company called Bristol Sunroof Centre. Has anyone any experience with these guys? They get one or two thumbs-up from online reviews, so I'll probably ask them to sort out my Open Air sometime soon, and I'll let you know.
  7. Hi, I know some of you have wrestled successfully with the small-but-irritating job of taking off the sun visors, but just to help others who find it difficult, here's what I had to do to make it easier this morning: Let's say the visors swivel around on 2 pivots and are held still by 2 clips. To remove each pivot, pop off the plastic disc that covers the single screw - I used a small flat-blade screwdriver. Remove the single Pozidrive screw. The pivot will now be loose, but won't come straight out. Grasp the visor and rock it so that the loose pivot block moves back a bit towards the rear of your Lupo. It has 2 steps moulded into it which must clear the rectangular hole in the metal of the roof. Once the tabs are far enough back, you can drop the visor/pivot combo down and out. The pivot block has 2 bigger tabs at the back, so must come out by moving its front-end down and out. That leaves the clips - the little devils... The clips look and feel like they are solid mouldings attached as if by magic to the car body. They are not, they are covered by tight-fitting covers. Get 2 flat blade screwdrivers ready. Gently wiggle one in between the first clip and the headliner. Don't go in more than 2mm or you will be trying to lever the clip, not the cover. Once you can see a bit of space begining to show, pop the second screwdriver in at the other end of the clip to the first and pull down sharply... Ping! Off comes the pesky cover revealing a pair of Pozidrive screws. The clips come off with their 2 screws. The third sun visor, if your Lupo is so blessed, comes off with its single Pozidrive screw. That's A Bingo!
  8. Exciting News! After a glass of wine, I summoned up enough courage to give the close button a tentative push and I have now revised my estimate of the origin of the clicks - I now reckon the clicks as well as a modest amount of clicky-type vibration, comes from the void above the interior light...
  9. Hi Folks, I thought I was lucky when I found a tdi Lupo with the full length sunroof last winter, but maybe I'm about to change my mind... With the roof open, it started to rain (for wot seems like the 50th time) today and I went to close the roof. 2 inches from fully closed an ominous clicking started up from the off side front of the roof, and it wouldn't close properly. I took my finger off the close button PDQ, and when I got home, I had to spend an hour clearing out the the garage so I could put the car in it for the first time in ages! Anyone recognise the clicking problem and know how to fix it? PS my last car - a Smart cabrio - had a couple of metal cranks you could use to close the roof when the wires gave up. Anything like that for the Open AIr system?
  10. Just done this, after attempting to use the wipers after the heavy wet snowfall this morning. Can tell you that the relevant fuse blade on my '04 Lupo, is at bottom right, second one in, and it's a blue 15 Amp...
  11. I feel especially qualified to respond to your post even though I am new to Lupo ownership, as I have used the boot space several times ... the answer to Q1 is, 'No', and the answer to Q2 is, 'All sorts of things, provided you fold down the seats'. Hope that helps ;-)
  12. Sorry, you'll have to be patient - wot's '9n3'?
  13. Looks pretty much what I had in mind, Silver!... do you think it would be a straight swap for the existing Lupo wheel or would there be differences in the fit or the connections, like fattty warns?
  14. Have been trundling round south west england in my brilliant new-to-me tdi Lupo and am loving it :-), but... the stock steering wheel's too skinny and little bit slippery - is there a favourite steering wheel from the rest of the VW range that anyone's fitted to their Lupo? I'm thinking maybe leather trim and what about one with controls for the stereo?? Any advice?
  15. My slots are between the radio / CD player and the heater controls :-) and just below the cupholder / coin drawer combination - oooh wot fun!! Don't you just love those Germans Zey Zink off Everyting, Ja?! Have you folks seen this site? http://www.volkspage.net/technik/ssp/index_eng.php/
  16. I meant the 2 columns of slots immediately above the heater dials... Silver! - why do you assume I mean an Arosa?
  17. I have just bought a TDi Sport and am loving it! But one question for you guys... what are the slots for, under the radio / CD?
