  1. IMHO, VW should take their responsablity and make sure the offending parts/the whole car are/is replaced.. tricky question of course because it ll probably be a case of the broken radio that starts working again the moment youre in the shop to take it back... as u say fran (oh, and welcome style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />) this sounds like too dangerous a problem to leave it as it is..
  2. yep, wont change parts that are not original, but hell, theyre just old tarts selling cars as commodities style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> HOWEVER, i called the `brake-peeps` up again, with irristible niceness apparently because they suggested a VW dealer that does competition driving and is involved with them for his brake parts... hallelujah! and bingo! >> called this VW dealer up (who happens to be in my area, another nice bonus), hes friendliness incarnate and will, by high exception, place the front (only fronts, his suggestion) braided hoses, the AP racing brake fluid (his suggestion aswell, specification follows), and the ferodo pads style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> and on top of that, hell take the original hoses in stock, so that i can borrow them from him so the brake people can make the braided duplicate!! (hes taking em in stock even tho he wont sell them to me, just borrowing, believe that!!) this is definately going to be continued!!
  3. just called the VW dealer.. will not replace standard brake hoses w braided ones im changing dealers, i cant stand it anymore style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />
  4. braided hoses (was looking for that word style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />), depends on the length.. am going to get informed on the spot this saturday methinks.. stay tuned. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

lololol i thought you lot would definately understand "wobbles".. im sorry style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> .. what i meant was not really losing traction, but when a car does show some bodyroll in a rapid corner, any sudden change in direction or changing of speed (you have to avoid an object, the turn has a sudden decreasing radius,... you name it), on "comfy" (ie. aimed at comfort rather than driving dynamics, as are most production cars) suspension will make the car roll, bounce, wobble, jiggle (think b**bs style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />), mostly around its `length-axis`, but also some around the vertical one. that means it doesnt go steady around the corner and you have to imput steering to correct for these movements and to stay on line. if the cars suspension is adapted to faster cornering, it wont "wobble" -lol-, but stay flat, hence flat cornering, like a cart, and that means mostly all your steering input goes straight to the chosen line, which is a joy. that stiffer suspension also helps to find the limit of grip better as youre not distracted by said "wobbling" of the car, and it will make the car dive less during braking and lift less during acceleration, which is also a bonus because that means less weight transfer front to back and vice versa, so more evenly distributed grip style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> and that in turn means less to fear from sudden tailhappiness braking into a corner... jippee yah, and EVO might write about all that, but doing one of those courses is even more informative and fun! >>> the more you know (and our resident racer will corroborate methinks , c17?) the more fun there is to be had.. matt.. i did have a small tailout affair too but my experience is that you have to not only put the lock on `double-quick`, but also come out of it (the lock!) darn fast too*, if u dont wanna fishtail all over the place, seen that too in the `lupo-cup` in a more dramatic way!! ***dont listen to all this bulls**t, go ask a professional!! QUOTE(Grey)any talk of "wobbles" related to driving never fails to bring a smile to my face style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />i didnt realise it was a classic style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  7. got it already style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> front: 16mm rear: 16mm oh, and the front disk is 25mm thick, not 22 or 23 style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> price for a set of 4 brakepads (fast road compound- prob ferodo): 114,6 euros, tax excluded ppl from the shop reckon with fast road pads and steel brake lines youll go a long way yet, no real need for grooved discs.. i did tell them predominantly road use tho.. question is.. will VW install these babies (no istall from the `brake-specialised` shop style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> typical)???
  8. here we go again... how thick are lupo GTi brake pads front and aft... you cant BELIEVE the various possibilities there are (not for the loop, but in general style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />) according to the dealer: f: 10mm, r: 11mm according to the brake specialists front 10mm is IMPOSSIBLE, only 16 or 19mm are available style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> djeezes... anyone have experience with all this?

QUOTE(MattyB)1) GTi ...Might lose it slightly on the corners, but I reckon it could keep up.2) Like EVO said on the `Fast-Fleet` test in the Moors, the LupoGTi had no problems staying with the more expensive machinery....that being CTR's and 172's remember. 3) I will have to come along to the next meet if I can to prove it to you!! `uh-oh`, why do ppl keep asking these questions style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> 1) yes, the standard GTi will be a bit out of depth against better suspended countesparts UNLESS its driven very well, that is taken through the corner very very smoothly (i mean `baby-bottom`-style trailbraking, razorsharp selection of line, immaculate going from braking to `throttle-on`, the works style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />), IMHO thats pretty difficult to do on unknown roads, so, inevetably you will get what spook described, albeit MAYBE in slightly less dramatic fashion, as any abrupt change in acceleration or line through the turn "at speed" (lets just call it that style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />) will cause "wobbles" that affect the steering geometry of the car aswell as the oscillations in the weight distribution, this will not only affect your confidence, it might also require more grip from the car than is available at that time. solution (for stability under hard cornering) is a bit of work (=money) spent on a more focused suspension, but 'nuff said about that already, youll just have to read the essays there style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> again, its unbelievable how this will affect your perception of driving AND the love for your car style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> 2) mind you, matt, that test was under bad weather conditions, that being known as a a good leveller style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> 3) my god i wanna be there too style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  10. coooooool thx guys style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  11. ... i ought to shoot myself for being so imbecilic, but i cant seem to find the sizes of the GTis discs... can anyone pleez help..? much obliged style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  12. QUOTE(C17)1) and the balls thing has nothing to do with it2) it isn't as expensive as everyone seems to think 3) ...especially my dad! 1) well balls was meant "to have the balls to admit to myself that i want to do some kind of competition", im not worried about going round the corner quickly (ill leave in the middle if im any good at that though style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />) 2) ..and not expensive.. the luposchool i MIGHT be enrolling in (one muttafukkin day in a lupocupcar under excellent professional tuition, that is if they dont think me too old style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />) is 750 hardearned €s.. never mind converting an old sportscar into something trackworthy, allthough the dream is getting the loop midway road/track with better brakes and seats style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />.. i mean i did a FEW trackdays on the bike and it cost enuff to hurt (in a pleasant way style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />). tyres/pads + trackday entrance, nevermind really racing in a series ---i have no technical knowledge, no van, no sets of slicks/raintyres etc etc.. ! 3) my age is not stellar.. dont think i could be yr daddy style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> how did you start C17? did you have petrolhead relatives? coz `NO-ONE` of my friends/relatives has got ANYTHING to do with motorsports (hence my `post-keenness` with u lot style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />) so i have to figure things out myself (which is nice, but not too much progress either)..
  13. no, but id love too.. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> if i only had more DOUGH style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> and BALLS style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> sadly, i might be a bit too old style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

...i am baffled too.. i was gonna bet my loop company figures for BHP/torque are ALWAYS through the wheels, sometimes a bit optimistic, but never 50% off!

  17. ppl instead of braggin which cars your family/you has/have had, have the heart of describing/qualifying them so than we, the Unfortunate (well, with the GTi its actually "Only Slightly Less Fortunate" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />), can, at least on a conceptual level, indulge aswell.. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

  24. fellow `lupo-crazed` minds, yesterday or so i asked the following question to the peeps of ABT sportsline: "> dear ABT, > > As i drive a VW Lupo GTi im very curious to find out > what parts were changed from the original car for > track use in the Lupo `Cup-cars`, cars that are, as i > understand it, prepared and maintained by you. > > Brakes? Exhaust? Clutch? Which parts exactly were > used? Are they for sale to the general public at your > workshop? If so, what are the prices/times needed for > fitment? > > I would be very interested in further details about > Lupo `GTi-specific` `tuning-information` you might be able > to provide me, as data about this specific `lupo-model` > is rather sketchy everywhere." and i added many thanks... here is their reply, hold onto something for your own safety as it is rather shocking... "Hallo Mr. Cayman > > The VW Lupo Cup Car is made by Volkswagen in the Factory but only for the > Cup > The Kit is not for sale and to List all the parts is a long time work for > us because there > is no lists or sparepartskatalouge for the Cup Car. > > Best Regards > > Hans Top > Lupo Cup Department > Abt Sportsline" there you go.. the guys who alledgedly prepare the `cup-lupo` on the basis of the GTi cant or wont tell us, the enthousiasts, what was adapted, and even if they would, nothing would be for sale.... DUHH???? and that while the brakes and exhaust are clearly different from stock.... "thats when i reach for my revolver...."
  25. http://www.`donington-park`.co.uk/home.htm for info and tickets... strangely enuff theres no mention on the site of the lupo cup, while its still marked on the volkswagen racing page
