  1. Heres an update if anyones interested. The car is still in the garage Apparently they were supplied with the wrong pedal box originally and had to wait for a replacement to arrive, then they said it was a nigthmare taking the old one out because it was damaged and putting the new one in was also difficult. Once that was done, apparently the brake pedal was sticking and so they had to take the pedal box out AGAIN to get it sorted. There was some other stuff that needed doing as a result of a botched job by a garage I took it to previously for a different problem and so the final bill came out at £833... During all the above I was informed that part of the wiring loom beneath the steering collumn had actually melted/burnt at some point and they wanted an auto electrician to have a look. They also said the indicators and the windscreen washer nozzles were now not working (they were when I broke down and the car went in though). Cutting a long story short, the electrician has told them that to get that issue sorted will cost somewhere between £400 - £500!!! The garage its in said that they think the burnt wiring possibly occurred as a result of previous work by the other garage or was damaged by the pedal box making contact with the wiring loom when it failed (when I broke down). The car is now running but obviously without indicators and is still in the garage. I dont know what to do. I've been told to get the car independently inspected - obviously I'm not happy the car went in with no electrical issues and now I have to pay up to £500 on top of the original cost to get issues that occurred while it was being fixed sorted. The garage advertises as being a SEAT specialist. Has anyone got any advice? Should I just pay up (somehow) or make a fuss about the electrical issues? Also is the independent inspection a good idea?
  2. Yep. Not much I can do about it though, on the plus side it'll be nice to drive the car without it feeling ropey. Thanks for your input as well
  3. Heard from the garage this morning. Apologies if the following doesn't make sense, I'm repeating what I can remember being told plus I don't really understand it anyway. Apparently the release bearing in the clutch had seized up which had done something pretty bad to the clutch pressure plate. This then resulted in the clutch cable being pulled through the pedal box which is also knackered. Result: Need a new clutch, pedal box and clutch cable to the tune of £550.
  4. There isn't a main seat dealer in Swansea unfortunately. TBH if this is going to cost a lot, It probably makes more sense to put the car up for sale.
  5. Even if it's an '03 Arosa? Will let you know what the garage say.
  6. So the clutch looks like it could be an additional problem? I think this is going to be be expensive btw thanks for the replies
  7. It's parked outside the garage for the weekend and I'm going away tomorrow so looks like I'll have to wait until Monday for a diagnosis. Do you know if the pedal box failing would have been causing the clutch to slip prior to what happened today?
  8. Its sunk so low to the floor there's hardly any room to push it down. It wasnt stiff to move or loose before I lost the ability to put it in gear either.
  9. Update: Since the original post the clutch started slipping in all gears. Driving home this evening it became increasingly difficult to get it in gear until it became impossible so I had to pull over. The actual clutch pedal had sunk to the bottom of the floor and wasn't going anywhere - I ended up calling my recovery service who towed the car to a local garage (who were shut - it was about 6pm). The recovery truck driver phoned me this evening and said that he'd had a look himself as the garage was shut and some sort of plate underneath the car was missing. He asked if I'd seen anything on the floor where it had broken down, like a metal plate or a bolt, but I hadn't seen anything. He seemed to think that this was the cause of the problem and that the clutch itself didn't need replacing. Can anyone shed any light on what the plate he was talking about might be? And could the clutch actually be ok and the problem (clutch slipping, pedal sunk and difficulty getting it in gear) be something else? p.s. when I phoned the garage where the cars been taken to to get a price for a new clutch, they quoted £330 fitted
  10. Yes, the only time I'm noticing it is when I move up into third. Sometimes its worse than others or doesnt happen at all. I've had problems getting it into third after it went into a garage to have some work done about 18 months ago, but the clutch slipping only started about a week or two ago.
  11. ...when I move up into 3rd gear in my car. The revs increase but theres little to no increase in power for a couple of seconds. IF it's the clutch thats going, is it expensive to fix? Could it be anything else? Car mechanics aren't my strong point... Its an '03 Arosa 1.4 16v Sport
  12. My right brake light stopped working not long ago so I purchased a replacement bulb and attempted to fit it yesterday afternoon. It seems that the plastic surrounding the metal contacts where the bulb is meant to go has actually melted and so i cant even fit a bulb in there anymore. Looks like im going to need a new brake light cluster (i think?), any rough ideas how much they are and where i can get one? Its an '03 16v sport.
  13. Well I've got the car back, all in all came to £185 which isnt bad considering what it could have been. HOWEVER!!! The airbag light is now on permanently after the car is started AND the hazard light is clicking constantly (and quickly) but not flashing. The indicators work as does the hazard, but when neither are in use im getting this constant clicking. The garage reckon its the hazard switch but i've also read i might need a new indicator stalk. Any ideas??? If anyone knows what the part number is for the indicator stalk that would be appreciated too.
  14. Thanks for the replies. The garage have had the car in for almost 3 weeks now as they had trouble sorting out the crankshaft sensor problem (long, long story). Does anyone know roughly how much i should be paying once i get to pick the car up? The garage said going by the book its a 4 hour job.
