  1. Pretty standard spec for most Ravens I'm afraid.

    2 cuphodlers and electric windows are standard in any GTI, so the leather and aircon are the additional options.

    You're missing a sunroof, rear bench seat and phatbox for a full house!

    Very interesting.

    I'd love one of those Open Sky roof things but I assume that was never an option on the GTi?

    Rear bench seat - can't get in leather can you? I prefer the 2 singles anyway :)

    What's a phatbox?

  2. I've had my blue GTi for about a year now (I think) and I realised it was fairly rare at the time, but now I'm wondering how rare.

    It's a 6 speed 52 in blue, but it's got the following from the factory:

    * Leather heated seats

    * Air con

    * Electric windows

    * 2 cup holders

    AFAIK not many GTis had all of those did they? Does anyone else have those?

  3. Yeah I think I started a thread about this same problem a while ago where lots of people said they found the same. But recently I've been hearing of people needing to change clutches around 100,000 miles anyway so it made me think perhaps it's the clutch.

    Someone did say they cured it by changing the leads. Perhaps I might change them first to see.

  4. Hi all,

    My 2002 6 speed Lupo GTi has had this problem since I've owned it where it's very difficult to pull away smoothly. I've never known if it's the engine dying trying to bite the clutch, or the clutch is killing the engine by not smoothly engaging.

    The car's done 106,000 miles and the gear change is fine. Would you expect the clutch to be needing to be changed at this point anyway? This seems to be worse when cold, but it's always there. It's very light but I assume that's due to it being hydraulic.

    How long do clutches normally last? If I get the clutch kit (Sachs £80), will I need anything else e.g. slave valve or whatever else is involved in hydraulic clutches.

  5. Hello again all.

    Few random generic questions that may or may not need to go into separate threads. 52 GTi Raven Blue 104k (demonstrator :D )

    1. Knocks coming from the back. Fairly quiet constant knocking noises, no big bangs over big bumps like normal bush failure, but same noises I would normally put down to bushes. Are they well known for needing bushes?

    2. Grinding noise that seems to be unrelated to anything else. Still can't work out what it is, coming from engine bay, over the course of about 3 or 4 seconds it's a high-pitched grinding noise that fades in and fades out. Can't make it do it with any of my own actions. Clutch may be nearing the end of its life, or maybe PAS pump (or are these electric racks?), spose that only leaves alternator or air-con compressor. Anyone had this?

    3. The double-DIN OEM VAG stereo is about to have it. CDs skip but the radio has always been really poor for reception. So:

    3.a. Has anyone had the roof aerial become high resistance or dodgy in other way, or had this reception problem?

    3.b. Has anyone had any trouble fitting a standard aftermarket double-DIN e.g. Pioneer stereo in?

    4. Door strap squeaking. I've heard this is a recall / warranty issue? Or should I just grease it?

    Thanks. That's very wordy, so here's a pic. :)

  6. Hi all.

    My 02 GTi runs lovely when warmed up, but for a few minutes when cold it's quite jerky. I've replaced most serviceable engine bits and the only things left are CTS, MAP and lambda.

    I can put VAG COM on it but can anyone tell me what to log?

    I reckon most likely is lambda and least likely is CTS, but I'd rather not buy a lambda or MAP unless I have to.

    Car's done 100k and I reckon the clutch is on the way out as it's a bit fussy on bite but that may be how they are?

    Love the car anyway.

    Cheers.

  7. Hi. Old topic, but I cleaned my TB out last night with Wynns carb cleaner, operated the butterfly by hand and sprayed liberal amounts down the hole. Put it back together and it's fine but got the MAP sensor fault as above. I've cleared it with VAGCOM, and I'll see if it comes back. I'm assuming it's just got some crap on the MAP sensor and needs to blow it off, but what happened to yours?

  8. Hi all. First post.

    Just bought a Raven Blue 2002 Lupo GTi with leather and aircon. Very happy with it.

    Just trying to sort a few niggles and one is the cowling around the instrument cluster is a bit loose. It knocks when going over bumps etc.

    Is this something anyone has seen? I was just going to find some rubber strip to wedge in or something like that, but was wondering what others had done.

    Cheers.
