  1. Does anyone have a spare genuine VW front road spring for my 3L? I just ordered one from VW Classic but they've cancelled my order due to a 'Russian Steel' embargo.
  2. Hi Ivan3L, my turbo actuator was sticky, the garage just sprayed it with some lubricant. I'm sure it will need changing again soon. My 3L has been off the road since the start of this month & I'm just about to give it a good service to get it up and running again.
  3. Sausage, could you point me in the right direction on how to test the charge pressure control with vcds? Thanks
  4. I think you're right, I took the inlet pipe off yesterday evening and it looked fine with the O ring still in good condition. I'll see how the actuator functions next.
  5. I did turn it off to poke around, so maybe turning off and on reset it rather than my pipe adjustments. Here's the fault; 1 Fault Found: 17964 - Charge Pressure Control P1556 - 35-10 - Negative Deviation - Intermittent Readiness: 0 0 X X X Which gives this this on the Ross Tech site; Possible Symptoms Reduced power output Limp mode Possible Causes Boost Pressure too Low Hoses/Pipes incorrect connected, disconnected or leaking Charger Pressure Control defective VNT (variable nozzle turbo): nozzles stuck Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75) defective Possible Solutions Check Hoses/Pipes to/between Components Check Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75) Check / Clean / Replace Charge Pressure Control Check / Clean mechanism for variable nozzles Looks like the poor fitting hose could be the problem. Shame they aren't available from VW. I'll look to make up some kind of large washer to hold it in place. Anyone got a known fix? Thanks
  6. Thanks Sausage. Just downloading latest version of Ross Tech, will read codes and report back
  7. Hi I've done about 30k km in my 3l over the last 12 months in my second period of owning this amazing machine. At the weekend we did a 300 mile round trip and started loosing power. This hasn't happened before I pulled over and had a look at the turbo. From the attached photo it looks like the turbo inlet pipe is working its way away from the turbo. I wiggled it back on and this immediately restored power. Anyone else had this problem? Is this a likely cause of power loss or should I be looking elsewhere? Thanks.
  8. The paint markings on the used ones are identical to the ones that came off. 3 yellow dots and one blue, whatever that means. I've fitted the best two of the three that I bought and the car now drives as it did the last time I owned it. Looking forward to doing some easy miles.
  9. All sorted now thanks. Used 3L springs arrived from Germany this morning so the Lupo is riding high again.
  10. Thanks all I've bought a pair + a single one used from ebay Germany. Should arrive on Monday so I'll get them fitted in the evening. Cheers.
  11. It's a broken spring.. I'd like to get a new pair for the rear as the passenger side one doesn't look too special. Does anyone have a new pair of 3L rear springs available?
  12. I'm delighted to have bought back the 3L I sold just over three years ago.. It's riding a little low on the driver's side rear. I haven't investigated yet but I suspect it could be a broken spring. Could it be anything else? Does anyone have a set of standard rear springs they'd be happy to sell? I'll investigate later this evening and report back
  13. Hi Joe We have chatted about my 3l before. It does have stop/start although you can turn that off if you don't want to run in ECO mode. Out of ECO mode you get engine braking and the full power of the engine. I've always run it in ECO mode but make sure that I do a few miles with ECO mode switched off just so the car remembers that it's got two different modes! Mine is a really basic 3l, no air con or power steering. Fantastic driving experience. Cheers

  15. This is a post I've started and deleted many times! I've decided to sell the 3L. It's not being used that much since the arrival of the BMW 330d, although I am taking the Lupo out for a few relaxing long journeys to keep it lubricated! 69,000 miles New genuine VW cambelt & water pump fitted by Audi Stratford Upon Avon in July 2014 + MOT Two new front hubs in my ownership. Gearbox is perfect, basic setting done very recently. New genuine front discs and pads fitted in last 500 miles as discs were advisory on MOT Car is based in Stratford-upon-Avon. 16. I've decided to sell the 3l. It's not being used since the arrival of the 2010 BMW 330d SE touring (manual), which is a hoot. 69,000 miles New genuine VW cambelt & water pump fitted by Audi Stratford in July 2014 + MOT Two new front hubs in my ownership. Gearbox is perfect, basic setting done very recently. New genuine front discs and pads fitted in last 300 miles as discs were advisory on MOT Car is based in Stratford-upon-Avon. Car has been in UK since new. Full service history. 2 previous owners (husband and wife) It's Silver with light grey interior. £4600 no offers. Only reason for sale is that we have just got planning permission for an extension and the house will turn into a building site for most of 2015 so it will probably be good to get it out of the way. If you are interested then please contact me but be prepared to pay the asking price, otherwise I'll just tuck it up under several covers and hang on to it. Thanks..
  17. All sorted. Audi Stratford incorrectly fitted the hub so ABS sensor was struggling to pick up signal. See photos of both sides, you should not be able to see the little silver clips! https://plus.google.com/photos/110791491420644998400/albums/6047131778846808657
  18. I thought I'd share this little issue that I've currently got with my 3L which showed itself recently and to see if anyone can help. First some recent (possibly relevant) mechanical history. N/S/F wheel bearing replaced by Audi Stratford January 2014 @ 103708 km Cambelt / Waterpump replaced & MOT by Audi Stratford July 2014 @ 111151 km The lupo hasn't been used much since the Cambelt / MOT as I've been using another car I bought early July. I thought I'd better take the lupo for a spin to charge up the battery and warm it all up but all did not go well. The gearbox immediately seemed confused, clutch slip between 2nd & 3rd and on slowing the downshifts felt poor with some feedback through the brake pedal (more on that later). I've never had a problem with my gearbox to date so I was a little surprised. I plugged in to my VCDS and found no gearbox or other faults. I did a basic setting on the gearbox expecting this to cure the problem. It did not. Exactly the same behaviour from the gearbox. Slipping in upshifts and some unpleasant noised whilst slowing down. It was hard to know whether these were coming from the gearbox or brake system. Then whilst driving slowly round the block the ABS light came on the gearbox was immediately fine again, behaving perfectly in both ECO and non-ECO mode. Great, no gearbox mechanical problem but an ABS problem. VCDS out again, showed a Left front sensor fault. Simple fix, bought new sensor from VW, fitted, problem NOT fixed. Gearbox is fine but ABS light comes on with following fault; 00283 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Front Left (G47) 04-10 - Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent So, I'm thinking, if it's not the sensor, could it be the wheel hub/bearing that the sensor takes it's reading from? Lack of use? I got the hub/bearing from Germany but it was a good quality OEM spec part (exactly the same brand as supplied by VW a few years ago for the front right). Any suggestions welcome. The car is booked in with Audi Stratford on Thursday morning this week to see if they can diagnose anything else but if there is anything I can do to sort it out myself I'd welcome the advice. Thanks.
  19. I think the XL1 engine is headed for the UP http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/vw-launch-95mpg
  20. I absolutely love the 330d. The 3L is however better at doing what it is designed to do, the ride quality is amazing for a small car and if it's not a scorching hot day the Lupo is just as good to take on a journey. So I'm keeping the Lupo and now have to put a new cam belt on it as I think the last one was changed in 2007. I was surprised that the MOT station wouldn't MOT it after I told them the cam belt was due for a change. Audi Stratford upon Avon has quoted me £387 to replace belt and water pump with genuine VAG parts.
  21. Thanks everyone. Very sensible advice. The BMW is arriving first week of June so I will just put some fresh oil in the Lupo and see how many miles I do in it up to Christmas and make a decision then.
  22. Like many of us car enthusiasts I have a dilemma that I'd like to share with the forum and ask your advice. I have a road tax free 2001 Lupo 3l with just under 70,000 miles on the clock. It's spent all it's life in the UK imported new by the previous owner. I've taken it from 70,000 km to just under 110,000 km in the 3 years I've owned it. Since I've had it I've serviced it myself with good qualify oil every 10,000 km, had both front wheel hubs changed and bought the necessary software to be able to do the 'basic setting' on the gearbox which I actually enjoy doing! It's also had a new pressure cylinder for the gear change mechanism. Apart from that, nothing. It just keeps free wheeling along returning an average of 91 mpg. I have recently bought a 2010 BMW 330d Touring with a manual gearbox, which should average around 48 mpg. I previously had, for a short while a 2001 RS4 so had a very good reason to hang on to the Lupo but with a more sensible family vehicle arriving soon there is less justification to keep the 3L. The Lupo costs about £250 to insure, zero tax. My question is; what would you do? Keep or Sell?
  23. After a few disappointing results of 87, 90, 89 & 86 mpg I made a conscious effort not to exceed 90 kph for the last tank of fuel and managed an impressive 103 mpg. To be honest I really don't think travelling at that speed puts too much more time on my journeys.
  24. I've looked at fuelly and think it's a bit rubbish. It needs model specific sections not just the year of the car.
