  1. Hi, I'm a bit new here so please excuse my general noobness... My 97 1.0 Arosa (AER engine) has an engine speed sensor fault - it sometimes decides to turn the engine off at random and its idle can be erratic. From what I can tell there's no crank position sensor, it's done within the distributor so I need to replace it. How hard a job is this? I'm no mechanic and the Haynes manual (Polo edition) goes on about setting top dead centre, which means removing an engine mount and the inlet trunking to get the timing belt cover off to see the TDC marks etc etc... Am I stupid to think that as long as the new dizzy goes on in the same orientation as the old with the rotor arm at the same position it should be OK? My budget to run this car is tight but I'll take it to a garage and get it done properly if I'm just going to make things worse. Thanks Paul.
