those covers are a nightmare to get off
i had to replace a wing mirror on an arosa and that cover was a right bitch
there are 2 easy clips at the bottom but the one at the top is stupidly arsey!
i ended up snapping the clip so i had to buy a new cover
only £2.50 from vw though

yo andy
so lup Gti eh?
i will have to keep an eye out for you going to stafford every so often
-
ass
i thought he was serious!!!!!

try putting ur foot more central on the break pedal wen pressing, sounds like ur putting to much force on one side.....
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
that doesn't make a difference, the brake pedal does not work like that, the pressure gets distrubuted to the calipers via the master cylinder and servo
-
you need to have it done electronically using VAGCOM which dealers have
the idle is set by the ECU.
-
i have just filled up my mk2 polo, mk4 polo and 2 jerry cans as i have heard on porka.net that there is fuel blockages next week!

i'd go for a matched set of dampers and springs
the way you are doing it won't give the best performance as the springs are not matched to the dampers
for best results you should use the same make of damper and springs or a shock and spring set up like spax or gmax for example as they have been designed to work together to give the best ride and stiffness
might be worth changing the top mounts if you feel like it

a tenner is nothing mate
VW charge you £35 for the same job
-
whatever
-
yeah thats what i was thinking as well
-
whilst the engine is out you might as well change the cambelt, tensioner and water pump

are they the same?
do lupo ones fit onto the arosa?
-
jsut get a replacement one 2nd hand and have it programmed in by a local garage and see how it goes
you are talking £100 max
if you want me to lend you my spare throttle body then let me know, if you cover the postage charges then i am willing to lend it you to see if it is the problem without spending stupid amounts of money at VW

i have had this problem
i had it replaced under warranty by Dane Motors VW in Chester
they gave me a courtesy car straight away, i went in, saw the service manager and he said it was a very common problem therefore he would take the car in and give me a courtesy car.
first he quoted me a few days but then rang me and told me that there were no pedal boxes in the country as so many ppl had the same problem
so it was on back order in germany
then a week after he rang me again and told me that they had no pedal boxes in germany and were not being produced at the time and meaning that i had to wait till they started to manufacture them again
so a few days became a total of 8 wks
yes 8 wks, my car was stood in their carpark during all that time
i didn't mind one bit though as they kept me posted via phone calls and also they told me that i could keep the courtesy car until my car was fixed and VW would pay the bill for the car.
so 8 weeks later i got a phone call to tell me that the pedal box had arrived and that the car would be ready for me to collect
they also asked me if i wanted the clutch to be changed as they said that the release bearing was worn and was under warranty so they would change the release bearing under warranty and then i could pay for the clutch plates and they would fit it for me without having to pay for the labour as they had to change the release bearing anyway
so when i got it back everything was fine on it
they were a really good dealers, although a week later my steering column became loose as something wasn't tightened up properly as the steering column had to be removed to change the pedal box
the steering column was then replaced under warranty again and i have had no problems since
i have taken my custom to the same dealers due to their excellent customer service.
its a shame they are far and few between.
they all act nice when you buy the car and then sod you off when you have a problem.

yeah mine is cable operated and i thought it would just go on and work
but it doesn't
well it didn't on mine anyway
-
if TIGZ's throttle body doesn't do the trick i have a spare one you can borrow which you can try out
also you need to have VW to program the new throttle body into the ECU when you fit it
when i fitted a new one on mine i had to take it to a garage for them to sort it out with VAG-COM as the throttle body would stick open when i hit 4000rpm which wasn't fun
i would try the temp sender first though as its only £20
-
i had a gear selector seal changed on mine
it was done under my extended warranty as it would have been £60
mine was leaking here a wee bit
-
it could be the temp sender
i have had the same problem many times and fitting a new temp sender solved the problem everytime

visable clues are that the clutch pedal is lower than the brake pedal, they should be at the same height
also the clutch travel will be very little
you don't need the flywheel changing when you change the clutch
in fact the only reason why you change the flywheel is to lighten it
-
does it sound like there is grit grinding?
if so then its the airbag slip ring
common problem with polo's
i have had 2 of them under warranty
they are about 70quid or so i think
if your car is under warranty then have it done
if not then spray some WD40 or something
-
or you could try disconnecting the battery for an hour or so to see if it goes back to the standard idling speed
-
i think it should be between 875rpm to 925rpm or something near there
500 is way too low.
the idling can only be set by VW's vagcom software.
-
very common on polo's
clean out the throttle body with some carb cleaner
for more info look on the threads posted above.
