  1. the sound system shouldnt be tapping into the ciggy lighter for a start.....

Phono leads ( the red and black phono leads ) from headunit to amp -

Power lead ( the red one ) from the + term of the battery to a fuse holder under the bonnet, then straight to the + term on the Amp

Neg lead ( black ) from the Amp to an earth point which has had paint sanded back from it

Remote lead ( the thin blue lead) directly from the remove lead on the headunit to the amp.

I had a cig connector that run from the lighter and into red/black. At first i was only wiring all up for something to do and not long term but now i have changed my mind.

the earth wire, as you say should run to a stripped part of metal. Is there any recommendations where to connect this? and how? would it be with tape or a solder of some sort?

thanks for this by the way!

  2. sounds very much like the remote line is faulty.......... ive seen it before when there is no load on the amp it turns it on but when you power the pre outs (play music) the line goes down to 8V and the amp doesnt come on though you may get the amp light on. powering from other sourses wont power on the amp unless you have jumpered the power to the amp and the remote on. give that a try and report back

Interesting! I am running a black/red from my cigarette lighter and my blue wire from the back of the cd player to act as a remote.

just to confirm, i am checking the blue wire and possibly replacing it?

  3. this has my head turned inside out!!

I have a full range 500 watt speaker in the boot of my car, I was using a 500 watt amp to run it (which was working great). All of a sudden a couple of weeks ago it stopped working.

I though it was the amp that had blew but the power light was still glowing. i tried a different speaker but still no output.

    since then i have,

Tried 3 different amps, (500watt & 1000watt) yes on mono!

Tried 2 different speakers, (which are working with non car amps),

    Tried different phono cables,

Tried outputting from sources other than the car cd player,

Tried wiring the speaker directly to the amp without using a cable to connect both,

    Checked fuses on the amps.

The other car speakers are working fine running straight from the cd player without the amp.

I can't think of another solution other than admitting defeat :/

can anyone think of any ideas??

    thanks in advance!

  4. little bit of personal touch, i liked the whole idea of sticker bombing but i never liked all the multi colours. I decided to get a couple of hundred vw stickers printed.

Took a bit of time to cut all out but think it looks great :) well happy!

will get photos up of them on the car tomorrow, its too dark to take photos now.

  5. I don't understand the requirement for large sounds in a car, but I do understand free, so good on ya' for being annoying and it not costing anything

Looks a bit boxy. Are you going to shape it to suit the space a bit more?

at least someone understands having a bit of fun. I didn't really want to build it in more as i wanted it to be set in and out. I suppose the corners could be rounded but its at a friends at the minute. Hes putting a top and bottom on it. think i will put the felt on it on thursday. i will upload pics when its done. mabie it will look less boxy.

  6. Why on earth would you want an 18" sub in a car as small as the Lupo?

It doesn't only look stupid, but it won't actually do anything that a 12" sub wouldnt because, as you said, "it will never be turned up to that extent".

    Pointless in my opinion.

as i said in another thread, i picked everything up for free, myself and a few mates wanted to do this for a laugh. get a few photos etc. i also said it wouldn't be staying too long, im not one for driving around my music up loud.

  7. For once, the guy in Hellfrauds was probably right.

Are you sure you've done it correctly?

Basically, the red wire is an ignition live and the yellow is a permanent live. The iginition live brings the head unit on/off with the key and the permanent live is to store settings.

You need to cut the yellow wire, cut the red wire and join them together, so that the red wire becomes yellow and vice versa.

Yea i did all of that and it didnt do anything :/

its really starting to annoy me as i have 2 - 3 hour mp3 mixes on cd and if i turn the car off at all, it returns to the start!!

  8. I have a: jvc kd-lh401

    but every time i turn the ignition on, the cd returns to track 1 {00mins 01 secs}

i went over to Halfords and was talking to one of the guys who told me i had to switch the red and yellow wires so that the radio was getting a constant energy supply fro the battery.

I couldnt release the wires so i snipped, stripped, soldered and heat shrunk. FOR NOTHING! no power no nothing.

i have tried numerous different leads and still no joy :/

anyone had this problem or better stil, have a solution?

    cheers
