this is going to make me sound ridiculously stupid LOL,, basically, all it was was a dodgy connection! Tested the ignition wire going to the starter motor and at first it wasn't live, but when my brother moved the steering wheel in a certain way, it became live and therefore would start! So, ive just got my steering column fixed in the position that allows the car to start and now its fine!

ok so managed to get it started by connecting a wire with a spade connector to where the ignition wire connection is on the starter, and touching the other end on the battery! Its pretty ghetto but at least i can drive it now! so at least now it can only really be one of two things, a broken ignition cable to the starter or the ignition switch past click 2 is buggered!

Yeh I think it's normal noise lol,, whittled it down to one of two things I think, ignition switch or a broken positive wire

Well Ive taken the starter motor out and bench tested it and it works fine, also ruled out the battery as the problem,, any other ideas people???

if it is the starter motor then ill still be able to bump start the car, right??

HP3 0QJ is my postcode.... yeh i thought that too man! asked around and people seem to think it could be the starter motor,, i had a look earlier and its in the most awkward position to get out! when ive got more time i will have a proper look, try and get it out and bench test it!

is there anyone near to my area with vag-com that would be willing to come over and have a look??

but the clicking is coming from the throttle body?

hopefully Joti! but the thing is ive had it on charge all night and still wont turn over at all! i took my engine cover off and tried to hear where the clicking and the noise was coming from and its coming from the throttle body?? could this be my problem?? what i dont understand is that the throttle still opens when you put your foot on the peddle?

this is what someone said in an older post about changing the starter motor and sounds like what mines doing!

did the new starter motor fix this problem?? think mines doing the same thing!

noo i havent got one! and i also cant find the jump leads, gonna get a mate round later and try it. whats also weird it that when you turn the ignition, it clicks twice and then theres a high pitched tone in the engine bay that stops after about 30 seconds

cheers for the replies people! i tried putting the batter on charge over night but this seemed to have no effect but it is a super old charger! think what i might try and do is jump start it and see what happens. the battery in there at the moment looks pretty old anyway so im thinking it could just be that, well hoping anyway! ill get back to you when ive tried that!

Ok, so the car wont start! Apart from once about 2 weeks ago when it wouldn't start, the car has been starting as normal. Went out to start it earlier and all the electronics came on as usual but the battery light wouldn't go off. tried turning the key to start it anyway and literally nothing happened! Car won't even attempt to turn over at all! The EPC light is also on. Im thinking this is just the battery not having enough power to make the car turn over?? If anyone can shed some light on this its appreciated!! Drove about an hour and back from players yesterday with no problem, just wouldn't start later in the evening!
