  1. Just drafted an advert for this. Might be selling up and moving on.
  2. Thanks again piers. Might have found something after all.
  3. Thanks Silver. Your'e a gent.
  4. yeah i'd agree with that. Low mileage to me is 50k and below. Theres that 42k one up for sale that the guy wants 6500 for. Considering most of the what i'd call 'good' ones are about 5000 quid i don't see the low milage justifying a 1500 pound price increase. The one im interested in is a 53 plate with 65k miles. That's be a good example of the sort of thing i'm after. Obviously i havnt viewed it so cant really make too much of a judgement. With the cars being so rare it's hard to find anything near enough that it wouldn't feel like you're making a commitment already just to go an view it.
  5. Did I say you weren't helpful? You raised some good points, maybe it's just that I've already considered them. Me and my dad have this conversation all the time about how its better to buy a car thats actually been driven than one thats been used to go down the shop on a sunday morning then left on the drive the rest of the time. Like I said I was only using the forum to expand my search. Obviously im not going to jump at the first person to say they've got a 50,000 miler for sale but it's another one to consider, and compare against the likes of this 127,000 mile one owner car on autotrader: HERE Probably an absolute peach, but as i intend on owning the car for a long time something with less miles is preferable. Maybe i'll have to re-think my position but in my mind 80,000 miles isnt that 'low milage' anyway. Average for the car is supposedly 90k.
  6. With a mix of answers and this sort of stuff yes - Which is inevitable i know. I was just getting a bit preachy.
  7. Yeah fair enough Pete the high milage ones are looked after. My current car is high milage but well kept. My reason for wanting low mileage is the fact i do a lot of miles, so it's be nice to have something that won't roll over 140,000 miles a year from now. We've never spoken so you're not to know, but i'm not an idiot. I have a fair idea of how to buy a car. Just that what I want to buy is a good condition, low-ish mileage car. I only posted the question because theres not very rich pickings on the usual sites. Didn't realise it'd spark such a debate. If i were to moan about the whole thing. It'd be nice if one day people just answered the questions people ask on here, but human nature and whatnot.
  8. do you have an ad or more info on the car? pictures etc?
  9. Sorry piers you're flogging a dead horse. Too many miles. Double what i'm after - but a testament to how good these little cars are.
  10. Cheers piers (lol) MIght go look at this to see if i can knock the price down. Few bits of broken/worn trim i can see. http://www.autotrade.../1500?logcode=p you may also note the rare 3 seat rear bench. (i'd want to swap that out though) The annoying part is i passed up a mint 60k one a few months back for 3.5k. Regrettable decision there.
  11. yeah i knew piers was selling up, too many miles and i should have said - im after an untouched example if possible. Im not picky or anything.
  12. Looking at chopping in my 1.0 for a GTI in the next few weeks but the selection on all the usual sites seems poor. High miles and overpriced. I'll consider anything below about 80k and have a fair budget. I'm willing to pay for a good one. Let me know if you have/know anyone with one for sale. Henry.
  13. BORING PICTURELESS UPDATE Changed my discs and pads today from cheap motor factor parts (that warped) to Brembo MAX and Black Diamond Predator pads. The spacer I need so my wheels clear my callipers now fouls on the brake pads where they are too new. New spacers ordered while the car sits on the steels at the front. Looks like ball sack.
  14. That is the top mount and presumably bearing assembly and is very important. Fit it how it came off.
  15. Theres a thread i started on here with a link to the adapter loom you need. Costs about 30 quid, then you buy a new headlight switch with the option for front fogs only.
  16. Thought so. In the thread that i took that picture from i was told that that was correct. Glad i asked now.
  17. Dont suppose you could grab a cut-off picture from behind the wheel with those HIDs? Got a thing for yellow light.
  18. So this is incorrect and i need to buy the collared nuts? Or is that correct and it doesn't matter that the nut hasn't got a collar?
  19. ok cool, i need to buy the collared nuts then so i don't have to mess about with swapping top mounts.
  20. So, do i use the nut suppled with the coil overs on top of the top mount, or use that nut below and the collared nut above?
  21. Just wandering what order the parts go in. as i gather from standard parts its: Top nut and cap inside bonnet. ( now inside arch) Collared nut on top mount. Rubber top mount Bearing Spring cap Spring But someone told me its: Top nut and cap inside bonnet (inside arch) Rubber top mount Nut Bearing 'Coned' coil over spring cap spring. Which is correct - does there not need to be a nut holding the top mount on? Pictures would be appreciated if possible.
  22. Theres one of these on the Folkeswagen tumblr that has the 17" (?) mini wheels that look like starlites on. Looks awesome.
