    NW meet

Hi All, Is it still going ahead this Thursday? If I get my act together I should be able to head down if it's still in Altrincham. cheers Dave
  4. Could I ask what camera you used for those shots, they're ace quality. cheers
  5. I should be up for it, wouldnt mind a trip over the pennines. cheers Dave
  6. Hey guys, Well, subtle modder, it is just a 'box' with wires in but then so is the denison but that costs over a £100. Do you know of any cheaper way to get your ipod hooked up to the standard gamma headunit and retaining cd sound quality? If you do let us know! The connects2 doesnt allow you to control the pod through the headunit tho, so the denison is better in that way. Not sure whether to keep the 6 cd changer in place now as it's been rendered useless by the pod. I do miss those 6 little l.e.d.s now and the whirry noises you get when you change cd hehe. And for the record subtle I have 2221 songs on my pod!
  7. Bought it from eBay for £45 plus postage, what you get is a silver box and some wires (to put it simply!). Looks a bit complicated and the instructions arent fantastic but to be honest, the hardest thing is finding a place to stick the silver box behind the headunit. Took a bit of fiddling about but I've found the perfect place for it, would have took pics but it was a bit dark. Next job is to feed the cable back out through the dash, again, I found a really simple solution for this, again, hard to describe without pics but the ipod sits on the passenger side shelf now and the headphone plug comes out from behind the cup holders. It looks perfectly standard and the sound quality is as near to cd as you're ever going to get. I might get some kind of holder and re-route the connector so it's a bit easier to get to. Plugs into the cd changer connection and tricks the headunit into thinking that it is still there, so you press 'cd' to activate it and track 1 cd 1 comes up on the display and you're away! Really happy with it and as far as I know, it's the cheapest way at the moment (apart from fm transmitters and cassette adaptors which offer a sound quality thats nowhere even near hard wiring) to get the loop hooked up to the iPod. Took about an hour in total but I reckon if I had to do it again I could half that. I'll get pics this weekend hopefully! cheers
  8. Cheers for the garage info dazraz, I'll make a note of that for when I get the springs.
  9. Hey Dan, I'm in Manchester. The GTi's less than a year old so shouldn't be any probs with seizing parts etc... Still trying to find the best price for the springs, saw some on the german ebay but i'm still a bit dubious about buying from overseas! Anyone know the best (cheapest) place for them? cheers guys
  10. Haven't bought the set yet but I was wondering if anyone knows the best place to get them fitted? Would i need a vw specialist like 'Awesome GTI' near warrington or can any place do it? I visited the said place last weekend, looks quite a professional outfit, anyone else have any dealings with them? Any opinions or recommendations welcome!
  11. Hmm really!? It's an 05 plate so I'll certainly ask on Friday. Thanks for that.
  12. Thanks for all the advice guys. I had a look last night and it doesn't have a locking wheel nut after all that. Which is good in a way as I don't have the hassle of removing them. I'll buy some when I'm next in halfords. The repair kit definitely isnt there. Luckily, as I had a smart before and i have a mini compressor and a tube of gunk anyway so I'll keep that in the car instead. The car is booked in for Friday morning for the window issues. Oh, and I tried the idea suggested on the how to section about fixing dodgy electric windows but unfortunatley it didn't work. Never mind, hope VW can sort it. I'll keep you all posted. cheers
  13. Howdy all, After a fun weekend driving the new (ish) gti, I've got a couple of questions. As I can't get hold of the previous owner (he's on holiday) I was wondering if you guys can help. Stupidly I bought the car without checking the boot, only to find that the 'repair kit' and 'locking wheel nut' is missing. Was the repair kit standard on the car? So should it be there? Plus, if the guy doesn't have the wheel nut I'm wondering if vw will be able to order me one as I know sometimes you need a code but if you dont have, is it tough luck!? Im going in to VW on friday so I could ask then. Also, I've booked the car in for friday morning for the passenger side seal at the top of the window, it seems to be letting air through and needs looking at. Plus the drivers side window stops halfway up and drops down when you click it up (if you know what I mean). EDIT I've just found a very useful 'how to' on this site which may solve that problem, I'll try it tonight. Aprt from that, all is well. Any help appreciated. Thanks guys...
  14. Hmm, not been to that one, sounds interesting!
  15. Lupo 1.0 has inspired me, this is my attempt! Geddit??? And yes, I do work in advertising lol... border="0" class="linked-image" />
  16. Hehe, nice work mr lupo 1.0!!!! Thats where I was dazraz!!! Lal Quila!!! I was sat in the window on the left and the car exactly opposite as you see it in the pic! Lal Quila is the BEST curry house in Rusholme I reckon.
  17. Haha, haven't spotted that one nfbr, although gf noticed a kebab shop called 'Al Jazeera' which apparently means 'the truth'!!!? Very random...
  18. This is also in 'general chat' topic: Just bought a GTi. But I think it's worthy of it's own thread! Took the pic last night after my first full day with the GTi, Got a great parking spot opposite the restaurant and couldn't resit taking a few pics. This was the only in-focus shot but I think it's darn pretty! Absolutely loving the car by the way border="0" class="linked-image" />
  19. Hehe, can't wipe the smile off my face, I'm loving this car. Was out till late last night playing. Took the girlfriend for a drive in it, decided to stop for a curry in Rusholme, got a great spot to park, right opposite the restaurant and couldn't resist taking a few more pics (see below)!!! Oh yeah, went to Halfords, I can get a silver touch up pen thing from there for £3.99, I'll get it at the weekend, it won't be perfect again but at least it will look a bit better. Re. first mods... hmmm, I really don't know how to improve it!!!? I could do with a denison ipod link thing I suppose, as the tape deck adaptors are supposed to be pants aren't they? Also, yeah I would definitely come to a meet somewhere around Mcr. border="0" class="linked-image" />
  20. Cheers Andy, Yeah I have noticed this with Halfords too, I remember when you could get a touch up paint thingy for £2.99 or something like that, I imagine it's going to be silly prices but I'll have a look anyways. Ta
  21. Thaks fellas, I'm heading straight down to Halfords after work! I hope I can find something for the wheel. More pics when I can clean her, probably after the weekend!
  22. Thankyou Mr Tigz Ok guys here you go, border="0" class="linked-image" /> Also, I'm trying not to stress but I stupidly managed to kerbn one of the wheels this morning... I can't believe it, but it was completely my fault. I think it's partly coming out of the smart into the lupo, it just feels so darn big!... Can anyone recommend a reasonably cheap kit or touch up stick that would help disguise it, it's not that bad, just needs a bit of paint on there. Hope you get the pic cheers Dave
  23. Errrr, can't add pic, not sure how too... hmm. *scratches head*
  24. I got it I got it! Picked it up last night. First impressions are really really good. The car feels so quick, obviously after coming out of the smart it would do but still. Doesn't matter what gear you're in it just goes! The ride and handling is amazing, you get so much feedback through the wheel, I'd forgetten how much I enjoy going round bends until last night! Compared to the MINI, as thats the only fair comparison, the lupo feels like a drivers car whereas the MINI felt like a fashion accessory. I'll attach a pic shorlty cheers guys PS. Good to know there are more gti's in Manchester, do you do any kind of meets or stuff like that?
  25. Cheers Guys thats fantastic. Yeah Mr T, I'm from Manchester, are you from these parts? Also ta for the pic fyggy, yep according to hpi this morning it is clear. I'm intrigued as to how you achieved 140.8 bhp with your GTi!? Thanks again Dave
