  1. Can someone confirm for me whether the two arrowed bolts are the ones that hold the alternator in place? The engine is now in the car and just discovered I need to replace the auxiliary belt tensioner but access is really limited as its so close to the chassis leg.
  2. I'm based in Hessle - just outside of Hull but travel over towards Grimsby/Lincoln and Leeds quite often.
  3. Need this stuff gone... Complete standard suspension-shocks n springs front n rear. All in decent nick. £20 collected. Front set of shocks n springs with dropped springs-I think approx. 60mm. Came on the car so not sure. £10 collected. Spare 35W Xenon/HID Ballast for converted headlights etc. £15 posted. Full set of heavy duty original vw rubber floor mats £10 collected. Will courier heavier stuff if req'd or poss. deliver depending on location.
  4. ah weird - all the wheel removal threads seem to mention an M10 or 12 triple square bolt (that's what my Passat has too). I'll take a 24mm socket - seems the polo has that size n hope for the best. Thanks for the reply
  5. or maybe it's just your neighbour that sneaks round on an evening and whacks off into your oil filler cap?
  6. OK I know there's a how-to on the steering wheel removal section but my Lupo appears to have a large nut fitted to secure the steering wheel rather than the usual torx/triple square bolt that's described in the guides. Does anyone know what size this nut is? I'd measure it, but the car is 30 miles away and I want to make sure I've got the correct size socket rather than take my entire socket collection over only to find I don't have one big enough!
  7. check out the dealership service packages they offer for 3yr old + cars. The prices look pretty reasonable if you're looking to maintain the full stamped VW history.
  8. sounds more likely to be a flat battery to me - check for the voltage output before your start whacking your starter! wipers and lights will still work with a low battery charge - but the starter requires a lot of power to turn over.
  9. would like to know this too. I've trawled the local scrappers near me for a similar solution as I'd like to make it look as OEM as possible. the only thing I've found is the door mounted switches (similar to the electric window ones).
  10. Don't worry! - My local VW garage quoted me £165 for a replacement power steering hose for my SDI Lupo after I caught the front of my car on a large speed bump and punctured it - so they ARE available. There are companies who specialise in repairing hoses - if it's a metal section then it should be a fairly easy repair. Having said that, by far the cheapest option would be to get one off a scrapper. There's plenty of people breaking Lupos in the classifieds section on here. I bought mine from a guy breaking an SDI Polo for £10 It had a light bit of surface rust, which I cleaned up, treated and repainted. Cost me less than £20 in total n a couple hours of my time to replace.
  11. Cheers for the coilies n steering wheel Joe - anyone having any reservations about buying from this guy shouldn't! Top fella and very nice to deal with - I must stress that I don't know this guy, but he's a good example to many people of how selling stuff online should be done! Now I think I've blown enough smoke up his backside, so I'll shut up n get on with fitting my new lows!! :D
  12. Its not impossible but would prove incredibly expensive to do properly and by the time you've replaced half the internals of the engine to cope, let alone everything else that'd be required it'd have been cheaper and easier to either buy a 1.4TDI or fit a 1.9 TDI
  13. I've read in my Haynes Polo manual that for cable change gearboxes the adjustment to the selector can only be carried out by VW as it requires specially machined jigs to set up?!! It sounds expensive! Anyone else come across this?
  14. Shortly after buying my Lupo I hit a large speed bump and managed to smash the rear engine mount. I could only select 3rd and 5th gears as the shifter would only budge forwards and back - barely anything side to side. I've since replaced the entire engine and gearbox with a lower mileage lump and replaced the rear engine mount and selector cable support bracket which had also got damaged. However, with all that done and the selectors reconnected, the shifter still doesn't seem to be able to move properly side to side (as in the neutral position to go from 1st across to 3rd or 5th). Anyone got any idea what might be causing this - I can't see any kind of selector plate beneath the gear shift gaitor and I'm reluctant to start messing about with it! I REALLY need to get the thing back on the road and QUICK as it's now costing me money every day I can't use it!
  15. Let me know later today if the other guy buying the coilies lets you down n if so, then I'll pay for em along with the steering wheel n airbag. Cheers
  16. Cool - PM me your paypal address and total including postage n I'll take the steering wheel n airbag.
  17. are the coilies still available? I sent you a reply but not heard back. If they are I'll send payment through now
  18. Ok you're too far away to collect. Would you do em for £160 delivered? If so can you pm me your paypal details or address to send a cheque to.
  19. How much for the coilies delivered? or when's convenient to collect if you're not too far away?
  20. they are beeyoootiful! if only I had that kinda cash for some wheels. GLWS!
  21. how are you actually calculating the MPG? don't over rely on the onboard computer the most accurate way is to work it out via the tripometer and running from a full tank down to reserve light coming on.
  22. How much for the offside front wheel arch liner and also for the fog lights including grill surrounds (if it's got em)?
  23. why not have a look at the ones for a Golf or Passat? both of these cars run the 130TDI PD engines - so the intercooler would be the perfect size.
