  1. I managed to drop the white large connector plate that has lots of wires and blocks coming in to it and get all the six pedal box bolts out but it looks like the black plastic frame that holds the connector unit needs to come out. Do I have to take off all the wires, connector blocks and drop the whole lot out ? looks like a right pain in the **** ! Cant see how i get the throttle cable off either its right up out of the way and looks like a cable rather than an electronic unit ? My manual shows it different to how it looks on my car does anyone have the correct pages to show me how it comes out ? Cheers Bob
  2. Doesnt look like it has a potentiometer looks like a cable throttle to me, I have a pic of the electronic throttle pedal annd mine is very different,no wire on top, already took off the clutch pedal and the bolt is free and sliding but wont come out until the box is clear, looks to me like the electrics/fusebox has to drop down or come out before the pedal box can be taken out.
  3. Hi hope someone can advise me about changing the pedal box on my 2002 1.0 Lupo. It failed last week so googled the problem and then tried VW for a goodwill fix and they rejected it because I didnt have VW service history so have to do it myself. I have got the steering column out but the pedal box seems to be trapped by the electrical coupling station behind the fusebox and I cant see how this comes out or whether it does actually need to come out. Also my manual says I have electronic throttle but my throttle pedal looks different to the one in the manual and seems to have a cable attached and cant see how to disconnect this. Such an awkward pig of a job too !! Maybe someone else has done this on the same model of Lupo ? Cheers Bob
  4. Hi does anyone know if they fitted two different lengths of track rod end to the Lupo 1.0 I got one off a supplier by post and its about 35mm shorter in the shaft where the thread is than the one on my car, supplier says they only list one for that car 1998 onwards and its the correct part number they sent me so wondering if they fitted another one to some models ?? Mine is about 125mm long and the one they sent me about 95mm long otherwise look the same and for drivers side.

    EGR Valve

I took it off and had another go at it but wouldnt split so made a blocking gasket out of copper sheet and put it back so I can use the car while I get a new one. Engine check light came on again but no difference in driving or power noticed.
  6. Hi I wonder if anyone knows whether you can split the EGR valve on a 1.0 Lupo 2002 I got a fault code for the EGR valve and took the valve off to clean it, took the two screws out that look like they held the valve body to the alloy cast base but it wouldnt come apart, tried to split it with a blade bit no joy so just cleaned it as best I could and refitted it but now its leaking water out of the split where I tried to part it so must have damaged the seal. I will have to take it back off again ( a right pain of a job ! ) and either split it and fix the gasket or replace it. Any advice would be much appreciated. Bob
  7. Played about with it today and was just about to give up when I moved the cable coming out of the cd unit and it started to play, took the cd unit apart and the connector inside under the circuit board was half way out, pushed it back in with a dot of araldite to make sure it doesnt happen again and it works ! Only problem is if you turn off the ignition and take out the key the radio or cd keeps playing until you push the off button on the radio. Maybe this is because it needs the illumination lead ?? Looks like there is an earth and a light pin connection on this socket on the back of the cd unit. The cd front does light up though already with a red dot and red stripe. Nearly there hopefully !!
  8. Got the vw single cd player, took out the radio no probs using cut up credit card, pushed the cd player lead in to the connector on the back of the radio, cd lights up, takes a cd and ejects, shows its playing and track number on radio display but no sound on the speakers, radio still works fine. Do I need an additional lead as there are two other sickets on the back of the cd player or to recode the radio ? Cheers Bob
  9. Thanks for that. Do you need to have the removal keys to get the radio out or can you do it without them ?
  10. Cheers got it now Bob
  11. Hi I want to get the passenger side headlight unit out of my 2002 Lupo and have ordered a workshop manual but it hasnt come yet. I can see and remove two bolts one on top and one to the left front but seems there is something else holding it somewhere around bottom right but i cant see anything. Do I need to remove the battery to get at whatever is holding it and if I do will I need to recode or anything when refitting it or is there another way ? Cheers Bob
  12. Thanks for that. Does this mean I can easily fit either one of these type of units ? My car is a Lupo 1.0 E just a basic car. If I fit the cd player only do I just remove the shelf below the radio and will it plug in without any wiring change ? Does the same go if I bought the complete player with 6 cd changer/radio unit?> Thanks Bob
  13. Hi I just bought a 2002 1.0 Lupo today and its only got a cassette radio. Could anyone advise how I can upgrade this to a radio/cd ? Is there a cd unit available that would just plug in or will I have to change the radio for a newer cd model ? thanks Bob
