  1. well as a mini owner i usually have the choice of 10,12 or 13 inch so this is new to me! anyone able to shed and light on the pros and cons of wheel sizes? i know depending on how wide I go will effect certain stuff but diameter wise? Cheers Joel
  2. ha quality. Whats the ET? .... :/
  3. As long as the PCd is right then im guesing anything goes! ha who will be the first to put 4 space saver steelies on and get them banded! hahaha! Ill have a goose around on ebay. the widewheels.com is up near me in sheffield if memory serves me right? as for finishing. how do people do things like the checkered dish etc? air brushing or vinyls or what? sorry for the potentially thick questions but with being at work i cant view most piccies etc as theyre linked into photobucket and our servers dont allow "filesharing" sites!
  4. Afternoon All I am more than likely going to be putting some banded steels onto my Lupo and I was just after some advice really from people who know about all things wide! mines going to be slammed on coilies too and with it being GTi the slightly wider arches so..... Anyone got any pics of their car with steelies on and the dimensions? AND....... whereabouts do most people get the steelies from in the first place to get them banded? Whats the deal with tyres too. just get the right rim diameter and get as close to the width as possible? for things like where your going 14x9 wide how or where can you get tyres from for that?! Thanks Joel
  5. yeah ive got loads at home. got some pics of receipts too from when i did a load of work on the car. totals about 9K. if you drop me an email at moleyinhishole2@hotmail.com ill reply to you with some more pics and a spec etc, What sort of mini you looking for Naif? Mines a 1275, closer final drive than the laters for better acceleration. central oil pickup pipe fitted to stop oil starvation in hard cornering. Did have quickshift but I took it out but theyre easy to put in. TVR Dashboard with all custom fibreglassed gauges with fibreglass doorcards to ahve speakers in them. rear seat builds all leatherette too so fits in nicely with the leather cobra buckets and harness. wheels are 12"x6" wide and are wrapped in 1 week old yoko A539's. Its got a Twin exit playmini exhaust which on the run down sounds like an anti air craft gun absolutely amazing! You looking at getting a Mini? Ill probably get another one as a project to do an engine conversion on as I wont be using the Lupo for Track days like I have with other minis previously!
  6. I Live inbetween bradford and leeds really. im about 5 mins from the M62 Motorway. One thing I wont miss in my Mini is motorway Driving.... ooh thats something I was going to ask. whats lupos like on motorways? they got a decent final drive in 5th? (or 6th if its GTi?) Does changing the wheel size also alter the speedo reading like it does on my mini? Not sure about all this new fangled jiggery pokery witchcraft im just getting into it! with mine being a cabke speedo im guessing these are electronic and take the reading from the gearbox or somethuing? Ta Joel
  7. I take it the rear bumpers on the sport and GTi are the same? just different exhausts? Do we know of anyone up my end that could take me out in a GTi so I could see what theyre like?
  8. Cheers for the above. seems like I already have an idea about who the spec gurus are in here im really quite torn as to what to go for. they have the potential to be such a good car its hard to choose! im mainly looking on pistonheads and im going to have a look on here. autotrader always seems a little overpriced for some reason but im sure there might be a bargain to be had on there. I really love the way the Arosa has the front end of a "big car" yet its so little! do all the GTis have colour coded bumpers with no black part at the bottom and the rest of the ranges do have the black bit? if that makes sense?? Thanks Joel
  9. this is my mini for sale... http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1492655.htm Ill try take a test drive in both then. Ive put about 15k into that mini but just dont have as much time to work on it and maintain it as I used to. Im not adverse to getting the gti other than that they seem a fair bit more than the sports just for an extra 25bhp. are they quite different interior wise? i know they have different bumpers and arches too but are they the main obvious differences? If the 1.4 is however plagues with problems more than the GTi anyway then ill probably go down the GTi route. Would you say its generally cheaper to get one thats allready got coilovers etc or to go standard and do it all myself. are there any Vdub clubs up west yorkshire side too? Joel
  10. cheers, im not mega fussed about pumping loads of power really. the mini ive got now has really nice power and the way it delivers it is good so something like that. thats putting out 96bhp at the fly and 76 at the wheels so something like that is fine. what range in the 1.4 are there? is the s the same as the sport? are all the 1.4s 16valve? im looking at a 1.4s 16v..... whats the rear bumpers like to change so I can put a centre exhaust on? pretty easy?
  11. cheers for that, all sound advice in there so Kudos to the author!! Im looking at going either for the 1.4 or 1.6. ive not had a realllly good search around thos forum yet but just as a quick guide. Whats the first few steps to take towards tuning etc? the obvious things are exhaust and filters etc With my mini its things like cylinder heads next and cams etc...... whats the performance like of the above as standard and whats attainable? ill probably pop some more specific ones in the relevant areas once I get myself the car but just as a quickie to be thinking about oh and wheres the best places to buy bits from? who are the "vw specialists" when it comes to components? Ta Joel
