Electricrace, do you think the mkiv mechanism is the same ? If so, I might follow that tutorial. How often do the convenience control modules go wrong ? Do they regularly brake. Sounds an expensive fix lol

Yeah that makes sense. I read on another forum it's a common issue. How much is the mechanism ? How hard is it to fit ? Where can I buy one lol ?

Unfortunately, the guy I had service the car said he couldn't fix it (not sure how much he tried, although I did ask him). So its up to me, or an auto electrician, or if someone can give me any tips from the details above lol. It's probably a loose wire, but I think without a diagram and multimeter I won't find out whats going on I know the safe thing is to do with deadlocking, but exactly what I'm not sure.

Anything here, strangely it says the passenger door is always locked, even when unlocked:

I'm now the owner of an SDI S, already taken a big shine to the car however there are few little niggly bits with the central locking. The women selling it did mention it wasn't perfect but was sufficient for 90% of use. I'm fairly sure it's not a VAGCOM fixable issue, and I'm fairly sure the locks are mechanically sound (you'll see why below) so I'm guessing it's a wiring issue, most probably in the passenger door, but it could be the drivers side, if anyone has any experience or has seen this before I'd really be grateful for the help. So here's the current locking pattern, if I: Lock the drivers side door with the key, the passenger door locks and the boot locks, so the car is secure. WORKINGUnlock the drivers side door with the key, the passenger door unlocks and the boot unlocks. WORKINGUnlock the passengers side door with the key, the drivers side door doesn't unlock, the boot doesn't unlock, the immobilizer stays activated. NOT WORKING.Lock the car from the inside using the switch on the drivers door, the drivers door locks, the boot locks, the passenger door locks, then unlocks immediately. NOT WORKINGUnlock the car from the inside using the switch on the drivers door (having already pressed the peg on the passenger door), unlocks the drivers door, passenger door and boot. WORKINGThe only tests I haven't tried yet is locking the car from the passenger side door when it's fully open and locking and unlocking the car from the boot. Luckily, the working scenarios above (especially the top two) are the most important really, but I still think it's worth getting it sorted. The fact the mechanism seems to work when using the key from the driver door, does that suggest a wiring issue? Also, the fact that the immobilizer stays active when unlocking using the passenger door, does that suggest the wiring issue is located in the passenger door rather than the drivers door? I put a cheap VAGCOM on it yesterday and got no faults regarding central locking. Does this suggest it's something else? Maybe mechanical ? I read somewhere that whipping the fuse out my fix it, but could it make it worse? It's surely worth fixing it before it gets to be something worse though. Any help would be great!

Will take that on board. Won't mess with the tick over 79mpg is rather tempting OK, I think it might be the mechanism. It works, but it's not without fault. I will probably start another thread about it Key in driver side door, locks drivers side door and passenger side door.Key in passenger door unlocks passenger door only, and doesn't disable the immobilizer.Pressing the lock button on the inside of the drivers door locks the drivers door, but the passenger door locks then unlocks straight away, so basically locks driver only.Pressing the unlock button on the inside of the drivers door, unlocks both doors (assuming I've pressed the peg down on the passenger door so both doors are actually locked). I tried a couple of tricks for the Passat forum but as their central locking is newer, I imagine they won't have any influence on this. Anyone got any ideas how to fix this? As I said, I'm not bothered that much, although I've been tempted to set the Autolock function on the VAGCOM, which I imagine won't work with it in this state. As I said, will probably open a new thread about it. I'm not greatly bothered because at the end of the day, the car was 1k, it's a damned good car and the central locking isn't the most important thing in the world.

Bit the bullet and bought it, got it for 1k in the end. All good so far, drives really well. Surprised at how well it pulls at the mid range (40-60) and in top gear. Put an OBD scanner on it, no error codes or issues from what I can see so far which is good. A couple of questions: 1. When I unlock the passenger side door, the driver side door doesn't unlock and the internal light doesn't switch on. When I open the driver side door the entire car unlocks and the internal light switches on. Is this a common thing for Lupo's? It doesn't bother me particularly, just a bit strange. The flashing red immobilizer light stays activated if I open it from the passenger side door as well, is this to be expected? 2. The ignition key has a little VW badge which is actually a button (the old one was just a moulded VW badge). Like it pushes in and out. It doesn't unlock the car. I have a feeling it's just a torch because there is a little LED by the looks of it at the bottom but I'm just wondering. What is it likely to be? If it's remote central locking, have I just knackered it by taking the button battery out lol?! I know it probably isn't because it was far too easy to open but just checking. 3. What is the optimal tick over? According to my OBD it's idling at about 920ish at the moment, but I reckon at 1000 it'd idle much much smoother. Is 920 about right or is it slightly too low? Anything else anyone wants to suggest for it let me know. I've been reading about remapping it for even greater economy, is that a good idea? Thanks

Great response. So you reckon the agricultural feel is normal. As I said, it was just a slight vibration at tickover, it didn't feel major but it's the first Lupo SDI I've ever sat in so I wouldn't know. However you reckon thats normal? 1+ for going for the SDI Lupo then! Also, I figured the gearbox might be a little tight. The 1.0E Petrol I drove had a very loose gearbox but I guess each one is different. As it's for daily use, long distance I'm very close to buying it at this point. What kind of MPG are we looking at? I noticed someone on eBay claimed 72MPG, is that likely?

OK. Just checked it out. I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind helping. I really like it so this will probably make or break whether I have it (That and the fact I'm waiting on a call from the insurance): 1. It was quite loud when ticking over. It seemed like loud vibration and you could feel. It disappeared when driving but it was very loud when just idling. Is this a common thing with 1.7 SDI's? Is it a problem, or is it normal? Don't think it was the road. 2. I don't drive a Lupo anymore, but I do drive a Passat every day. I found getting it into first quite difficult at one point, although the next time I tried it, it was fine. Sign of the gearbox packing up or just me? 3. There was definitely some bubbling on the roof that I didn't spot originally. Big problem? Everything else was fine and it was pretty well kept. Would you recommend the 1.7? Did you sell it because you didn't like it, or because you went for something a bit more porky? Thanks again

thanks guys ok temp guage works but seems a bit slow warming up update on the tickover it cut out on me today whilst going along pushed the clutch in to change gear and it just cut out what is the egr valve what is the air mass meter landroverwolf

Hi Ive got a 1 lite lupo with about 60000 miles on. Quite recently when it is started in the morning usually the tickover goes up and down from about 750 revs to about 1100 and then back down to 750 about once a second. When the car is warm it still does it slightly but not as pronounced. any ideas

Hi I am having a problem with my 1990 Petrol Lupo. THe tailgate open warning indicator light iis coming on even when it is firmly closed. It comes on faintly then gradually comes to full brightness. I cannot work out how the switch which it must have somewhere in the tailgate is being operated. skez

They repeatedly fail to phone back when they have promised to and I still waiting for parts that were missing from my 8 month old passat and have been waiting since april. I spend a lot of money on cars and motorbikes but will not spend anymore at Stoke Volkswagen their customer service is Shiite.

Good point and I appreciate your reply. I wasn't necessarily going to use it as much of a DVD player. I've never watched a DVD in the car in my life and had a little portable DVD player for like 5 or 6 years. It was more the Sat Nav, MP3 CD and iPod features I kind of looked at. I think i'm going to give it a try. If I do buy one, i'll pop up a review on here saying whether it is worth what I pay Cheers (im off to register my own account )

Hi Guys, Its the son now and btw, I fitted the Sony in my little pug before my old man takes credit for that but yeah, it was nailed, disappointingly. So i'm still very much considering buying the Ripspeed, but I just wondered whether these were a decent alternative, or whether they're a crappy knock off. From what I read elsewhere, they ain't too bad, but ones perception of what is bad and what is good may differ, so figured I'd come here and ask (And probably register my own account after using my old mans ) and get a wider variety of opinions.
