  1. A while ago some fool damaged my BBS rims by letting them kiss a kerbstone. (If you think your car is in good hands at every VW dealer then think again ) When I brought the BBSses to a friend so he could fix them again I wanted to drive back at black ATS cup wheels. The ATS wheels I wanted to keep for the winters while polished rims hate the salty winterroads. But because of the brake conversion the ATS cup wheels didn't fit. I had two options, a 75km walk home or fitting horrible green wheels. As you can see I chose the last option ; Fortunately the BBS RM's have been fixed after a short winter with these horrible green rims . With another colour and half an inch smaller at the front they are finally on my Arosa again. This is it's new look for 2008; Unfortunately the car was a bit dirty on these pictures that is why it looks a bit dull. Björn
  2. Hello everyone, It's been more than a year sinds my last post. You know how it goes, bought a house with my girl, switched jobs, busy busy busy.. Sorry for that and time for an update I should say. You all know about the turbo plans I have. A turbo is nice but more work needs to be done. If you want to do it right that is. Februari 2007 my gearbox gave me some headachs. It wouldn't let me shift anymore so it needed some work. And while I was at it... well see for yourself; Nice and clean A Sachs Race Engineering clutch to cope with the increased torque. After that I realized that fast driving is nice but stopping would become a problem with the standard 239mm discs at the front and the drum brakes at the back. So I searched for some info to upgrade the brakes. Old discs New discs Donor is a VW Golf G60. These discs are 280mm and 22mm thick. The brake pads are Ferrodo's DS Performance. This combination is an excellent upgrade I can say! And altough braking is being done with the front brakes for 90% I wanted to fit disc brakes at the back as well. Even if it was only for the nicer looks Old drum brakes New discs at the back. Also from a Golf G60. These G60 calipers are made from steel and often the hand brake doesn't work. I have replaced them now by aluminium ones of a Polo GTI (a lot of VW's use these rear brakes though). These aluminium calipers don't rust like steel ones do so handbraking in winter times is no problem. Complete picture Just enough space in my BBS wheels. If you are considering this upgrade than keep in mind that some 15 inch wheels do not fit anymore. For example ATS Cup, been there done that Finally I came up with another idea to increase braking safety. I think I am one of the few (If not the only one) that has fitted a complete Anti Blocking System of an Ibiza 2.0 GTI on an Arosa... I also did some exterior work in 2007. The side skirts finally made it to my car; Well that's it for now. Hope u like It and I'll try to post a little more often. Grtz Björn
  3. Tnx! I did mine myself. I'll PM you about it. Björn
  4. In The Netherlands we have the same problem as you guys in the UK. Sometimes you can find some replacement parts here in NL but usually you need to go to Germany. If I need parts I always try the German ebay (www.ebay.de). Only the shipment costs are a bit higher.
  5. Do you mean this engine with the Schrick cam??; border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> That's a cilinderhead of a very early polo. From 1983 with motorcode HH to be exact. These heads also fit on our "new" engines with hydrolic valves. (With the "finger rockers" you probably mean not hydrolic right?. Or schlepphebel in German?) I wanted to use such a head cause they can cope with high revs better than the hydrolic heads. Make sure you always use the ones with compression space in the head (HH or HB). If you use the ones without it, for example all old hydrolic cil. heads, your compression will be sky high.
  6. Those wheels and brakes were standard on a VW Golf 2 Wolfsburg edition so it will definately fit. I'll have that combination in the future too style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> . Here is a nice link for people that speak a bit German (G60 upgrade for GTI as well as other models); http://www.lupoclub.de/board/thread.php?th...3670&page=1
  7. Tnx! No problem, you can't ask everyone you talk about here style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> . I hope that the turbo conversion will go somewhat smooth. But you know how it goes with such a project, you always need a bit extra and when it's finished it gets boring and you want to start a new project style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> But for the upcoming year I'll be busy I guess. And tnx again style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> I have the Dutch nationality but languages were never such a big problem for me fortunately. Sometimes I doubt about how to say things like; Is it "I have the Dutch nationality" or "I am the Dutch nationality"? I would say "have" because you would say have in Dutch but you say; What nationality "are" you? Anyway tnx for the compliment and I'll keep you guys updated in the introduction topic I opended yesterday! Björn
  8. Tnx for the nice answers style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> @ Klaas; Jij komt ook echt overal he style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> @ Lunalupi; The Exhaust is custom made and has a diameter of 6cm. So that's big enough for the turbo conversion coming up. @ Swoxy; I already have a lupo rear bumper with ABT skirt and ABT sideskirts. The rear is going to be something special. I can tell you that the DTM look is going to disappear. Just need to earn some more cash to make everything happen style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  9. Hello everyone, I reacted in a topic here so I'll introduce myself as well. My name is Björn and I drive an Arosa MK1 in the Netherlands. I changed it a bit so here are some photo's; When I bought It, It looked like this; border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> Now; border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> Standard 1.4 AEX engine; border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> And for the future; Cilinderhead (Polo 6N 1.6 AEE), Exhaust manifold, M27 turbo and downpipe; border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> Setrab 16 row oilcooler; border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> G60 brakes; border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" alt="" /> I think these pictures say it all. If you want to see more pics you can visit http://slavi.mijnalbums.nl or if you have any questions just ask them here <IMG SRC="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif"> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />. Grtzzz Björn
  10. TNX! That's a fact! If I could have passed the yearly inspection with turbo and carbs I would have kept the carbs. Unfortunately that's not the case. The Carbs never made it on my engine so I can't tell you how to make them work properly. All I know is that some people here proved that it's possible to gain hp by using them. One guy here in Holland is a real expert in making these conversions. All the information about carbs I have comes from him. www.spottuning.nl is his website. You might wanna contact him if you need some info!
  11. Funny you are talking about my Arosa here style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> You got it almost right but I'll explain a very short version of what has been said in that topic; My plan was to build the CBR carbs on my engine with the Schrick 280 cam and some additional stuff. Back then a turbo was not my intention. The bikecarbs are designed for a 900cc engine that can cope with about 12000 rpm. They will do really nice on a 1400 or 1600cc engine. Much better then Webers for example. Main benefit is that you lose the management so you won't need an expensive aftermarket one. Here in the Netherlands there are some polo's with a same sort of setup. For example: A standard polo 1.6 AEE engine that brings about 75hp. With CBR carbs, 272 cam and some adjustions to the cil. head for higher compression it brought 109hp. Quite a nice gain style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wub.gif" /> . Maybe you guys are not impressed. I saw some pretty nice conversions here with TB's too style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wub.gif" /> Unfortunately for the carbs I got the opportunity to buy me an exhaust manifold with M27 turbo. I couldn't resist so I switched to turbo setup. For a second I thought about using the carbs and the turbo both but realized that this wil not be possible. Well IT IS actually but in Holland we have a some sort of inspection (called APK) that you need to go to every year. To pass the test with carbs I wanted to let them run on few gas so it would past the tests. With a turbo this is not possible because you would burn the exhaust valves. Now the idea is to lower the compression by placing a 1.6 AEE cil. head on my 1.4 AEX engine. Instead of the standard 10,4/ 1 I want 8,0 or 8,5 / 1 for a nice and I boost. The cam will probably be a standard one from a old Polo 3F engine. This one is somewhat sharper and works very well on G40 with turbo conversion. If it does not work with me I will purchase a Asymetric one. I am not sure about the inlet manifold yet. Maybe a 3F inlet as well but then the cil. head needs some more work. Another option is TB's but that's pretty expensive. Management will probably be a stand alone one of KMS but that too needs some more thinking style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />. Well that's about it. Feel free to ask questions. Björn
