I ended up replacing mine for £138 and 67p for the gasket. I tried what you have attempted with very little success sadly.

I did think of this idea, but was trying to put it in the plastic mould that sits within the spare wheel. The changer is slightly to big I am going to try and mod my bracket with the kind help of a friend with a circular saw. Thank you for your help

I have a standard VW 6 Disc Multi Changer, but need to mount it to the back of one of the rear seats. I have a bracket, but it is taken from a Golf Gti. Does anyone know of a bracket that can be mounted on a seat that holds my CD Changer?
