mk1wideboy Posted February 23, 2014 Report Share Posted February 23, 2014 Your gearbox is most likely low on oil. 5th gear is in a separate compartment from all the rest and this gets starved of oil and overheats. By now, at best it has probably ruined the 5th gear selector arm, brass synchromesh ring and needle bearing. This is a common fault on the lupo / polo etc 085 gearbox.
