a few 20v conversion questions

im sure this will have been covered before but i cant seem to find it. anyway i have a few 20v conversion questions while i contemplate the job and make the final decision to break my TT and use it for a donor car :-/

so, as i look at this more and more, more and more questions pop into my head about it. i'll ask just a few here so as not to swamp myself.

1. is there any particular model which is best suited to the conversion? i was thinking of using a 1.4 sport. its not so flashy as the gti but has the correct hubs/carriers to upgrade to g60 brakes. this will be a purely function over form conversion. built to do a job, not show off. not really sure what other factors to take into consideration when choosing a base.

2. from people who have had experience of either, or ideally both, which mounts are best to se? the standard pendulum setup of the 20v or the subframe mounted setup?

3. what are the gearbox option available to me? this will mostly be a track car so thats something to take into consideration. is there anywhere i can check ratios and final drives?

that should suffice for now. any info greatly appreciated!!
