neojasper Posted August 5, 2006 Report Share Posted August 5, 2006 things are going from bad to worse now i think my valve seals cup seals are leaking sitting in traffic and go to set off smoke from the exaust is quite bad but then clears so took it to the garage he also said most probs is the valve seals leaking but its only done 38000 miles ok i could understand 13800 any ideas Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Teflon Posted August 5, 2006 Report Share Posted August 5, 2006 normally the valve stem oil seals start to get hard and fail, but very rarely at 38k. and it will normally only smoke when the engine is under heavy load. it might be worth having the fault memory read for any trouble codes. Teflon Posted August 5, 2006 Report Share Posted August 5, 2006 (edited) ok will do but will it show up on the compwell if it's a mechanical problem then it wont show. i tend to think of it as this "how can a computer know if a piece of metal or plastic is worn out?" the answer is of course it can't. but the reason that your car is smoking may have been caused be a fault in the injection system and it's far better to check this first before dismantling the engine to change the seals.
