Yeah think ill be able to do this one, was good last year and hopefully it will be as warm this year as last as well.

My Gti has had the same rattling problem fromm new. Was concerned at first but just got used to it now.

Really enjoyed the day, drive down there was brilliant and real cool to get first down the strip (tho it was a long wait).
Real nice to meet new faces and catch up with (er old faces). Some nice cars in the club and it seems everyone is slowly coming round the "i'll just do a few mods" way of thinking that starts the slippery slope to 17's and coilovers. Good work, this time next year there will be no standard cars left.
17's then, think we will all be trying to get some 15's next time judging by the times. Has a quick watch of some of the big boys before i went, wow, how fast were some of those cars.
Really sorry i left early but my mate came out of hospital yesterday after having major operations on his leg after being hit by a "dangerous driver" to quote the police so went to see him.

Has anyone seen the film "Christine" about that possesed Cadilac that tried to kill its owner???
Fran's Lupo is doing a damn good job of trying to destroy itself, what with, gearbox, cambelt and then attemting to rev itself on the limiter.
Recon your car is abit Loopy Fran (cheesy joke i know). Maybe you should diciplin it more so it behaves. Bet its actually quite scary if the throttle stays open, especially in busy traffic.

I have an Ascar cat back system.
It twin 3.5inch tailpipes in the standard position and still upswept slightly as per standard.
Sounds very deep ticking over and then goes raspy after `5500-6000rpm`. Quality is good in terms of fitting but it has started to tarnish slightly on tailpipes so will be using my lifetime warranty soon i think!
Have a nosey this Sunday, you will hear me coming!

Alex,
im considering a smooth boot with no VW bade or handle but am wondering how to do the boot solenoid thing.
i have no door locks at all, so i rely on the key fob, but they dont fail often and i have the spare at home.
However, what you doing for a boot pop from inside the car. Are you going to use a universal kit (that may be cheap quality) or adapt one from another VW model?
ive seen them done with a manually operated cable, probably just a bonnet cable adapted, much simpler to fit and no electrics to go wrong or require cleverly wiring in!

You dont need a spare wheel but if its there it has to be legal.
Also yes, put the steels on. A wheel touching the bodywork will fail the MOT.

Tigz...i have checked the map and can confirm i will meet you and Breal at Woodall services as its only a few miles south from where i will join the M1.
Just need to sort a time now. If we need to be at the Pod by 8:30 then i guess we want to be at the services about 6:15 so we can drive slowly down to keep the cars relatively clean.
It took my just under 2 hrs to Northampton in my car last time and the service is about 40 mins from my house. Therefore 1hr 20mins to Northamptom + time then to Pod.
Any comeback on this or better suggestions if i have got times wrong...open to change.

approaching a 40 zone. We both slow down and resume at 60mph
We did 40mph in the 40 zone. I meant we just did the rest of the journey home at 60mph in the next 60 zone.
I dont speed in 30's, 40's or 50's, but on a nice empty motorway or a deserted country road with good visibility ill do whatever speed my "get a kick from speed side of me" allows.

A mate of mine, who like myself is usually quite a steady driver, was following me home the other night from Lincoln at a steady pace of about `55-60mph`. Was a dry night and quite clear and as we got into the country i noticed he started edging up his speed, kind of pushing me to keep goin abit faster. What started at 60mph soon got to 80mph so i decided to give the Lupo abit of a stretch. Down into 4th and upto just under 100mph onto the limiter, into 5th and Astra is losing ground. Focussing a long way ahead but with quick glances in the mirror to watch the Astra i then hit the limiter in 5th. Into 6th and still foot on the carpet, glance at speedo to see 130mph. Kept foot down abit longer then backed off as approaching a 40 zone. We both slow down and resume at 60mph again before heading home.
2 days later i see my mate again and we discussd the "race". He had 1 passenger and they both said his speedo got to a needles width past 130mph and his car was still accelerating. It is on 15 inch wheels so i guess the speedo shouldnt be that far out.
Thing is even if he was doing 130,125 or 120mph real speed the Lupo was still pulling away from him. Wonder what the Gti will really do given enough road.

`Zetec-s` are easy prey in the Gti. A lad i work with has one. I can pull along side then just floor it and pull away quite easily. What i will say is though is the `Zetec-s` does corner very well, think it would show up a standard Gti actually. Gti with coilovers though, now thats a different story.
MG ZR105 is quick for a 1.4 yes but nothing super. The one to watch is the 160bhp ZR, ive raced one of these and there is not much in it until about 80 when its 4th gear time in the Gti. Then the Gti starts to gain ground but only very slightly.

Well i got mine 18 months ago brand new and have done over 30K in it now so mine is worth sod all. However i plan to keep it for years so will get my monies worth.
Also with the 12 year rust warranty and by looking after it, i cant really see what can happen, yeah it may need an engine rebuild around 100K but with a 180bhp rebuild its got to be more financially economical then selling and buying another new standard car modify and to depreciate!

Having looked at a map i think ill take back my last post, M1 J6 is quite a long way south of Northampton so its abit of a trek for me, must be looking towards 3hrs. Think ill just go straight to Santa Pod on the Sunday and meet everyone there.
Could still convoy down with you though Tigz depending on what you have planned.

Me and Fin are both running 205/40/17.
You may notice however that some tyres have more rounded shoulders for better arch clearance so choose carefully.
I run Yoko A539 (with square shoulders) so a rounded shoulder tyre may give you less rubbing.
My wheels are 7inch wide and Fin says his are 8inch wide but i didnt think 8x17inch Kahn RSS were available. Both have same width tyres but i think Fin's wheel look better than mine as his look wider and make the car look fatter.
There are some good photo's of both our cars at trax somewhere in another post about 17's!! Useful for you to compare mate.

Crickey im 2 hrs away from Northampton, looks like ill be taking advanatge of an empty M1 on a Sunday morning then. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
Reckon i will manage to meet where Twisty said tho, as long as i dont get pulled!
Tigz, i could meet you in Maltby or Tickhill or something and we could convoy down together if you wanted, straight onto M1 then away?
-
Standard Gti offset is 42mm.
Fin has 35mm offset 17's and his stick out further than std so rubbed his arches until he had them rolled.
i have 45mm offsety 17's. Dont rub the arches as much (still do though) but rubbed on the calliper CARRIERS on the front.

So shall we postpone the decision on inty until we have all had a chat at the Northampton meet then?
i kinda feel bad to MattyB though as he was trying to organise Inty for us but if we discuss at Northampton he wont get a say...unless your coming to Northampton Matty???
Any ideas so we dont just desert Matty after his intial help here?
-
Twisty- yeah im a yes on this one.
Havnt got any little wheels though, anyway they wont fit over my brakes now so stuck on 17's (or probably deep outward dish 16's!!!).
Car will be in a shiny mood rather than a trace mood i think, though you may be able to temp me on the day as i nearly did the sprint at Trax apart from queue and price!

Not had much say on this post but just to confirm i will be coming but on the Sunday only. Will be fun, looking forward to it actually. Hope its a dry warm day.
-
im with Twisty. Lets ignore inty and do Gti festival.
This is only my opinion feel free to disagree.
As Gti festival is in July though we may get steamin hot sun.
-
im not going to inty if i have to leave car in a carpark. Sorry if it sounds snobby but last time i left my car in a show carpark it got £800 of damage from an attempted `break-in`.
Most people that go to car shows are honest, nice people who are interested in cars. However there are some that go knowing there will be lots of nice cars there to steal or steal from.
Also not paying a show organiser to show my car. After all its those showing their cars that draw people to the show and make the show organisers their money.
i say lets find another show.

i am on my 3rd bonnet level and now this one is loose. Think its a common problem as if i remember Fin and Loopylupo have had the same problems.

Meeting somewhere in Northampton would be good as its easy to get to.
Room sharing...excellent news, was it me & 5 girls then

I live in Gainsborough which isnt far from you. Could meet you sometime so you can look at my exhaust. It is from Ascar, `cat-back` twin 3.5" centre exit. Cost £365 all in.
