  1. Well done to everyone that got trophies the standard of Lupo`s this year was outstanding.

Well done to all the winners, I predicted three of you :D First time I've gotten it right in 5 years!

Well done to Steven, that's some acheavment, is that 4 years running now?

Cheers, it`s actually my 5th Edition38 trophy I`ve had two 1st places two 2nd places and 3rd this year,I didn`t think I would have the Lupo this year but decided to keep it and do the stuff I was planning, but I ran out of time due to a family bereavement, Will get the rest done over the winter.

  2. I`ve got 7x16" +8x16" Teledials I think the et is 52.5 and I`ve got 20mm adaptors with 195/40/16 tyres and its just a case of bolt on your adaptor ,mine has 4 allen key bolts then bolt on your wheels easy peasy. Need to watch out for the wheels et so that they don`t stick out too far and rub etc

Cost wise the adaptors are about £130 ish but can be bought 2nd hand and wheels depend on condition + rarity

  3. I was lucky enough to be one of the first people to drive one of Scotlands first Gti`s. I worked at my local Vw dealers when the Gti`s were launched and I was the second person at work to drive it. It was a silver 5speed with red interior, I was in charge of the valeting team but I chose to valet it myself and after my little test drive in it I said 1 day I`ll get me one of these.

The shape of the flared archs and bumpers, the cheeky centre exit exhaust, the sporty looking interior, the sound of it when your giving it some beans (sounds better with the BMC now)the way it drives (also better now that it`s on coilovers)and the fact that they`re not that common (although there was 4 silver Gti`s at the scottishvag mega meet)

I traded in My Octavia Vrs for a silver 6speeder. It was my first new car and I knew with a few subtle tweeks suspension + wheels it would look cool, I saw a picture in the Golf+ june/july 04 off a grey Gti with porche wheels and that kindae sealed the deal.

I never measured it before and after but if any one wants to measure their standard one (through the centre of the wheels from the arch to the ground) then heres my numbers

    Front 56.5mm

    Rear 55mm

Ground clearance at the Cupra R spoiler is 8.5mm

    Wheels are 16" Teledials

Edited to say mm instead of cm

Is there any standard Gti measurements ??I`ll re measure when I put the standard wheels on this week.

I HATE GRITTERS + CRAP WEATHER

  6. thanks for the info daz, looks like you did a very good job of fitting it. was it a case of trimming the legs down a bit so it wasnt as tall? how do you cover up the join in the middle? what size self tappers did you use?

where are you based? i'm sure i can pay you hansomly in alcohol if you want to fit mine

I used to work at a Seat garage in the parts and we used to send out a lot of the "R" spoilers (and the rest of the front ends) to bodyshops and I thought that it was a subtle spoiler, when I put it under the front of the Loop I thought that it would go on with a little work! It took him 2 sittings to fit it the rough one /cutting up etc then the proper final fitting it took him a wee while but it looks like it should be there :shades: Theres a little contact with the odd speedbump and bad cambered roads, and the exit road and the ramp at edition38 .

The spoiler hasn`t been cut in the middle to narrow it just to loose height. A lot of the plastic was cut out the middle to get it closer to the standard gti splitter + some out the corners to get the ends closer to the edge. The self tapers were just some black ones out of the workshop, probably get them from Halfords though.

He stays in Falkirk about 20 mins from Edinburgh and he drinks like a fish

  7. Recently my Gti has started chugging when cold, it doesn`t do it all the time and it has n`t put up any warning lights, when i start it up and move out my drive i turn on to the road its a short journey to the end and i only get up to about 20mph if I`m lucky but in 1st and 2nd gear the car will hiccup/ chugg like its got kangaroo petrol and the garage said that thet can`t fault it . Has any one had a similar fault and if so how was it sorted??

On another note it was making a whine/ chirpy noise and they changed the waterpump shpuld they change the timing belt ? it`s only got 22k on the clock and it`ll be 3 years old on the 1st of sept. It`s nearly out its warranty and don`t want any big bills soon!!

Cheers for any help or advice.
