  1. Hmm. I think I'll see what the quotes are (if there are any!)-obviouslf if they are ridiculous then we'll leave it. I doubt I'll be allowed it with the remap anyway. Ho hum. The arosa tdi seems the best bet atm, at a price. I'm not sure I'd get the transport to see the others, though they're better value.
  2. Thanks for that! Can discount that one then! I'm still waiting for confused.com to ring me-think I might ring them... so is a remap some sort of tuning? I know absolutely zero about mods. Would be great if I could be insured on that one...wow. Do you think the fuel consumption would be affected much? Apparently the tax on it is £50, which is ok. Thanks for the details of those others-I will look into them. Maybe I'll be able to persuade my dad to go on a longer trip, but I doubt it!
  3. Yes, it is my first car. The lowest quote I've had is £1200 fully comp, which is about in line with other cars we've looked at like petrol Yaris's. My lowest quote for a the 1.0 Lupo was about £1100, so the TDi seems worth it for only a slight difference in insurance really. I can't decide whether the low mileage on the 1.4 is good or bad...there seem to be a lot of differing opinions. IMO I thought that maybe the fact that it hasn't been driven very much at all could be a negative, but I know nothing about cars so for me it was an instinctive reaction! lol, no chance! Can't imagine what the insurance would be! Then there's the price... I'd probably end up in a hedge. My dad's decided that he isn't so keen on the garage selling the Lupo TDi I've mentioned-the car is a bit dusty in the photo and he says where it's parked looks a bit messy... . What reassured me was the fact that they're "approved motor engineers specialising in Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, VW and Audi" and offer all sorts of warranties -doesn't look like a dodgy dealership to me, but I have no experience! Can I post the web address on here? Maybe someone has had dealings with them and could tell me what they're like (long shot I know)? He's spotted another Lupo Tdi, a private sale, (41k, £4500) but in the ad it says that it has 100bhp and 227NM torque...seems like quite a big boost in bhp from the standard 73. Not sure my dad knows what bhp it had to start with! It's had 15" GTi wheels put on it, and parking sensors (aftermarket I'm assuming-didn't think these were an option), and air con (option?). What's odd is that it still has a radio cassette & no mentioned speaker upgrade, so it's unlikely it's had a boy racer driving it...not sure what the extra bhp would do to the insurance though-I'm waiting for confused.com to ring me with quotes as they can't quote for it online apparently (!). What are people's thoughts on this? I've seen posts on here about power upgrades, but know nothing about mods! The car does seem well looked after though, spotless paintwork & has just had a service, cambelt change and new front tyres.
  4. I could indeed... I know...thing is, my dad is buying it for me (don't hate me, I'm not spoilt ) and he'd rather pay a little bit more for one that's closer-he lives abroad so it's not really possible to travel around the country looking at cars. Unfortunately. So it's convenience really . What are we on atm... 1.4S: 2, Arosa TDi: about 3, Lupo TDi: about 3. Still leaning towards the Lupo TDi for price. Bet you we'll get there for the test drive and they will have just sold it to someone with money on the table.
  5. Cheaper Arosa TDi's?? Show me where! The one I've listed is the only one I could find that is within about 100 miles of where I live (Kent). Think I've looked on most of the motoring classified websites and magazines...maybe I'm not looking in the right places? I've nothing against Arosa TDi's-I just like the Lupo better! Though the Arosa has nicer rear lights.
  6. Thanks! Yes, this forum has been great in showing me what to look out for, and what people's opinions are on the different models. I have to say I've always liked lupos so favour them a bit, but would happily go for an arosa if it seemed the more informed choice at the time! I'd really prefer a TDI (it would suit my newbie driving style better...not sure it's very economical yet), but the low mileage on the 1.4 attracted me. I was thinking higher mileages aren't so bad on a diesel though... I did see TWO low mileage (20k and 30k) lupo TDI's for sale a couple of months ago at a VW franchise, but at great cost (£5895 and £6295 respectively, out of my price range), and they've sold now, so 60k doesn't seem too bad for £4k. I'll post pics of my choice...so excited!! I'll have to change my username (can I do that?) if I get the arosa...d'oh!
  7. Ooh, one for each at the moment... lol. I will ask whether the lupo and arosa have had cambelt/pedal box changes (picked that up from this forum...v helpful!) before visiting-haven't done that yet.
  8. Ok- I've got a shortlist of 3 cars to view next saturday . We've only really got time to view 2 cars to allow for travelling time. So...which would you chose to view, as I'm at a bit of a loss at the moment, and which would you buy? (My favourite is the lupo TDi-v smart looking and good value): i) Lupo Sport Tdi, black, fsh, 60k, 2003/03 reg, £4000 ii) Arosa Tdi, silver, fsh, 50k, 2002/52 reg, £4495 (seems a bit overpriced-will haggle!) iii) Lupo 1.4S, mid blue, 2.7k (owned by an old couple, kept in a garage most of the time...maybe it hasn't been driven enough?), 2003/53 reg, £4995 All are trade, not private.
  9. I'm trying to narrow down my search for a lupo (or possibly arosa) to a particular engine. My first priority is fuel economy, but I'm worried that I'd find the 1.0 too slow for things like overtaking lorries (my typical journey each day is country lanes, b road, dual carriageway, b road, then about 5 mins of town driving, if that helps). I looked on Parkers and they quote 48mpg combined for the 1.0 and 44mpg combined for the 1.4...is the difference really this small? I don't really do that much town driving as I live in the country, so I was thinking that the 1.0 wouldn't really come into its own for what I was using it for... What do others think? (Ideally I'd like a 1.4TDi but there's only one close to me in my price range which will probably sell very soon-the petrols are more plentiful)
  10. Hi everybody, as you can probably guess I love lupos (and arosas too). There's just something about them...small but perfectly formed! I'm chuffed that I've found a whole forum of people who like them as much as me (my mum can't see what all the fuss is about...). Not sure whether to get a 1.0, 1.4, 1.4TDi or 1.7SDi! Decisions decisions! I've got my eye on a nice TDi at the moment...fuel economy is very important to me, being a student .
