  1. Luvly luvly...smart purchase there

Love the colour! Got mine before I passed my test too...not great, spent the next 2 months busting to get in and drive off with no one in the passenger seat! Well done on the theory- and good luck for the test! :)

  2. Thanks everybody, can't quite get over the fact that I don't have to take my mum everywhere now! :D Love my bargain wheels, they're great

Careful those wheels don't lead you astray! They may have learned bad habits from the last owner!
Lol, don't worry, I'll be sensible!
  3. Have finally got my new wheels on- they're Arosa S wheels from One Litre Wonder, absolutely spotless and unscratched (am going to try hard to keep them that way). They've got VW badge stickers (ebay) stuck over the Seat badges, which IMHO are quite convincing! Really pleased with them- look much smarter than the steels and have better tyres too :D Clutch has now been sorted (just needed adjusting, apparently there's plenty of life in it yet), so it's sooo much nicer to drive :D

  4. d think you might be looking at anywhere between £200 - £400 depending on where you go and what needs replacing. Although thats letting you off lightly. Some cars (Mondeo 2.0 & freelanders being examples) can cost up from £1300-£2000 for a new clutch!

Oh dear... mine's being looked at next weekend. Got the car about a month ago (only 8k on the clock), noticed the first time I drove it that the biting point was very high & apparently the clutch is worn. I've been quoted £80 parts & labour at the moment for a new one (friend's dad's a mechanic)...maybe it'll go up once he has a look .

Plus, may I recomend going somewhere quiet and hilly and practicing your hill starts - personally I don't think you should be allowed to pass the driving test without being able to do a decent hill start (I hate being behind someone who rolls back towards my car when taking off on a hill).

I can sit in a hill with the handbrake on, bring up the clutch, take of the handbrake, and not move an inch - just takes practice, I was parallel parking backwards uphill while I was a learner

Don't talk to me about those- I can do them fine in the car I'm learning in (new fiesta) like you say, without moving, but dread them atm in the Loop because of the worn clutch. The biting point's so high (and the biting range so short) that I keep falling short/missing it and having to brake abruptly. So embarassing...counting the days til it's fixed lol  . Sorry to hijack the topic- just wanted to have a moan...

  5. Thanx. Have to say I wasn't expecting such a new/well-specced one- would have been happy with a T-reg 1l, but I'm not complaining! :D It's an ex-Motability car so probably an old person....maybe held it on the clutch a lot/all the time? Killed was probably too blunt a term as it is still driveable, though the bite point is cramp-inducingly, knee-level-almost-with-elbow high! Will find out soon whether it needs replacing or not- concentrating on my test first

  6. I say newish as I actually got it at the beginning of December, but haven't been able to drive it much since then due to a) DVLA being slooow with the tax and B) exams! :glare:

    It's an '04, 1.4 S 16v, only 8k on the clock.

It's my first car, I haven't got my licence yet but will be taking my test for the first time later this month... ( and ) It needs the clutch adjusting/a new clutch (not officially looked at yet) so feels a little awkward to drive atm, but hopefully will be sorted soonish...so then (licence permitting) it's all go! Can't wait! :D

Picture quality isn't the greatest- camera phone is my only functioning camera atm unfortunately  ... I haven't actually washed it since I got it, but it hasn't been far :( .

Got it a Stoplock (Pro no less) to deter potential Luposnatchers! I've also got a set of Arosa S alloys (from One Litre Wonder), now with VW badges, to put on! Not really into/got the money for mods as you can see (insurance is bad enough as it is), but I like it the way it is. Wondered about putting a 16V badge on the grille like the Sport, but not sure about that...saw some on eBay, a habit I need to kick! Fancy some foglights but doubt that will happen. I'll get them on my next car (many years yet hopefully!)

Anywho, hope you like (course you would, it's a Lupo) :D

  7. For lupos that came with alloys from the factory, when you go to put your steel spare on you don't need a shorter bolt do you, therefore I would assume all the bolts are the same, rather than having 2 different sizes.

Good point! Looks like I shouldn't have a problem.

as chris said , pop a wheel nut off and we can have a wee look for you

Hehe, I'm too weak and feeble! Believe me, I tried. They've been screwed in very tight! You'll be pleased to hear that your wheels are being very well looked after- cleaned (not that they needed it) and autoglym wheel-sealed no less! But they're in the garage, not in the house. Sorry :D

Those centres look great! Did you take the Seat badge off or is the VW stuck on top?

The Seat badge is still there, just stuck the new one on the top. The edges of the Seat badge were a bit recessed, so the VW badge doesn't stick out too much.

  8. You wont wreck the brakes because the bolts will be too short if anything. I think they will be the same size for the alloys though. If you could take one out and post a pic and measure the length ill see if mine are the same size. I think they should be though.

Sorry, meant that I didn't want to kill the drums with the longer bolts. I tried to take one out today but they're too tight :ouch: -sorry about that, it was a helpful offer anyway, thanx. I think we're going to get a mechanic we know to come over & look at/change the wheels when he looks at the clutch. Hopefully that should sort it.

Those badges look great! wouldnt ever tell they are badges. Post up some pics when you get the wheels on

Thanx, v pleased with them ^_^ . Will do soon!

  9. If you need longer bolts for alloys and have rear drum brakes, remember to keep a set of shorter ones with your spare wheel.Otherwise the longer bolts may be to long for your rear hubs and foul the braking mech inside.I found this out when I fitted Oz alloy's to my MK3 Polo GT.I haven't checked, but carry standard bolts in the spare wheel of my Arosa anyhow.

Will bear that in mind in case I do need the longer bolts, don't want to kill my brakes! (Can't afford any more damages- the previous owner seems to have killed my clutch  ).

I got some cheap 14" steels for my car the other day, as winter hacks, and they fitted fine with the bolts from my alloys.

Ok, that sounds promising too. Could it be that the bolts from the alloys are longer and so fit the alloys and the steels, but shorter ones from steels might not fit alloys too...just a newbie thought?

PS Are you going to replace the 'S' centre badges with 'VW' ones?

Yep, was originally looking for badges/centre caps from VW that would fit but drew a blank there, so found some really good sticky badges on ebay. There are lots on there, but I decided on these as they looked good quality on the listing, and they are! They look like proper VW badges even close up! I'm so proud that I took some pictures:

    DSC01388.jpg

They are quite big in relation to the wheel, but I'm not fussed :)

  10. I think you should be ok.

If you can, remove one of the wheel nuts and post a pic up and ill tell you if they look like mine or not.

I think they are all the same though.

Thanks, that sounds promising! I'll see if I can get one out, though I couldn't even get the wheel cover off the other day! . Though it was a bit of a half-arsed effort- I wanted to see how it came off! I have been shown how to remove wheels, but it's undoing the nuts/anything that involves strength that is a problem for me. I think I'll get my brother to do it. :shades:

  11. Heard today (from a man at the garage) that I might need different wheel nuts if I am to change my standard Lupo steels to Arosa S alloys. He said that alloys are thicker and need longer wheel nuts (I was hoping I'd be able to use the ones I've got). He hasn't seen the Arosa alloys though, or the Lupo wheel nuts.

What do others think? Reckon Arosa/Lupo wheel nuts are the same across the board for steels and alloys? I thought I read something on here about VW wheel nuts fitting lots of VW wheels, but these are Seats so I'm not sure....

If it helps the new wheels look like this:

    Thanks!

  12. The biting point on my lupo ('04 1.4S) seems very high- both my mum and myself drove it for the first time the other day, and both immediately remarked on this!

To stop it stalling we ended up revving hard whilst trying to find the biting point, so we must have sounded like a pair of nutters pulling away from junctions! Admittedly I've only driven one other car before (an '07 fiesta) and this seemed to have a fairly low, easy to find biting point, so I found driving the lupo very difficult. Atm hill starts are really touch and go as the biting point seems very hard to find compared to the fiesta, as well as being high- there doesn't seem to be much change in engine noise/clutch feel (as there is in the fiesta when you get to the biting point), which is what I was taught to look out for? If it was just me who found it hard to drive I wouldn't be surprised as I'm not exactly experienced, but my mum who been driving for years in various cars said she found it very tricky, and was revving it harder than me!

Should I get my clutch cable adjusted? We know the people at my local garage so I'd rather have it done there than do it myself-it's my first car.

I've read about pedal box problems/worn clutches on here but it's only done 8k, so surely it can't be that?

  13. Oh right i see, i bet you carnt wait to start driving it then, and better still to pass and go out on your own

I literally cannot wait! My dad's the only one who's driven it, and he loved it :D .

Tyres sound much better than my current ones...maybe I won't need to change them for a while then. Could save me some cash , but I'll have to see- the roads round here are pretty treacherous- the gritters miss our area out completely! :ermm:

  14. Yeah ronals, i didnt notice until i was getting a puncture repaired and it says ronal on the inside of the rim.

Yeah i like them too, one of the many things that drew me to my 1.0 arosa since i liked the design of the wheels. I had thought about changing them but i dont think i will, well not unless i find some 15" arosa sport wheels, otherwise they are staying.

Have you seen One Litre Wonder has some for sale? Very reasonably priced and in great condition too. Ive been thinking today if i wanted to buy them to replace the few curbed ones on my car up but i carnt decide really.

Put some pics up when/if you get some :D

how are you enjoying your lupo?

I've just messaged One Litre Wonder! :D My Lupo hasn't had any outings yet (sadly) as we're waiting for the tax to come through. :( I've not taken my driving test yet (had to book it for after xmas...wanna do it now!), so will have to take it out accompanied for a bit! You're probably wondering why on earth I'm buying alloys now when I've not even got a full licence ! It needs some new tyres- currently has fuel-saver ones which are absolutely no good for living in the sticks like I do- so thought I might as well get some alloys to replace the steels and get tyres for those! :D Liked it on the test drive (though have only driven one other car so can't really tell!) and have shunted it around on the drive a bit!

  15. Thanks for that cardaft! Ronal eh?

So i take it your looking at buying some arosa wheels fro your lupo then?

See HERE if you want to know what it might look like. Arosa wheels on the loop, loop wheels on my arosa.

I like the lupo with the Arosa wheels on actually, looks nice, and a little different from sport wheels too.

I am, and had been thinking of getting a set as I think they're very smart looking and like you say, a bit different (but wasn't sure what they'd be like on the Lupo), until I read that thread, which helped me make up my mind- they do look very nice IMO.
