  1. ....nearly 12 months after buying the GTI Im getting around to doing a few little mods.

Got my BMC on order - Halfords do a price match and had an internet connection in store so i found a good deal and they said OK.... saves the hassle of mail order. Ive no idae what the damage will be when I tell the insurance company, Ill just have to suffer it.

Dunno if I can justify spending £500+ on coilovers so looking at springs (maybe)....any pics on here of any GTI dropped on either eibach or other spring only kits? (not coilovers).

Got scraped by a taxi & will cost £250-300 to fix so thats a bit of a setback. damage really minor but is over the wing door and rear arch.

  2. Im just about to get a set of Toyos as the dunlops are now a severe hazard with only 12k on the clock.....I cant remember which are the newer ones - the T1-are - are or the T1 - S?

Also from people who've owned them which is best? On black circles the T1-are are goes for £80 a corner in a 205 width but the T1-S is only £50 a corner in a 195......so what do you think?

    ##edited cos i cant type###

  3. id have a milltek if it was a decent price, gave just a bit more noise than the standard GTI sound and could have a similar twin pipe but just slightly bigger.

backbox only option would also be good.

  4. lovely persons....my GTI came with the crappy leatherette one then they ordered a new un cos i complained and it was just the same! I left it at that cos I assumed itd been discontinued.... Im gonna go back and get the proper one with that number.

  5. I used a H&R cup kit the drop is between 30mm and 50mm (Shocks and srings)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

the ride height looks really good. low but not enough to be impractical.....where did u get the kit from and what did u pay for it? interested to see how it compares to a coilover kit.

  6. springs alone usually leave the back end a bit too high compared to the front end but a set from a decent company will definately improve the handling. so it just depends how important the look is to you, with coilovers you can mess with the height till u get it just right.

  7. the mk2 arosa 16v wheels are a nice set of 15inch 5-spokes......

    23f07f1a.jpg border="0" class="linked-image" /> border="0" class="linked-image" />

the dealership will charge u the earth for them though....failing that some lupo GTI wheels could look nice....there was a set on here for sale (i think £220 ono) and just needed a refurb.

  8. DanGTi is probably the only person on the forum that'll talk you OUT of buying a GTi in favor of a Fiesta, but you'll not get such advice from me.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

are u f*cking taking the piss? me recommend a fiesta over a loop GTI? just cos mines been broken the past month doesnt mean ive lost the plot.

  9. im not convinced but its personal opinion...  i REALLY like those wheels though!  what are they (size, make etc) and what size of tyres are they wrapped in out of intrest?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

i would like arosa lights if only they were left & right matching and didnt have big orange bits!

  10. Hi Rafael thanks for the reply and welcome to club lupo. Your car looks fantastic on those DZ's . I have decided now after that with all this advice and people's comments on what wheels to go for that i am going to go for 16's too. Cheers for replying and keep us updated on your 40mm Lowering

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

if i get around to changing the wheels ill be going for 16s with a 40 profile tyre....just fills the arch that bit more making it look that bit lower and doesnt mess things up too much.

right i am very confused about what dubya has said about the springs that non-GTi springs wont work on a GTi , i am a bit confused as he said that the rear lowering springs are longer than the standard GTi springs . BUT i have a non GTi and i have GTi springs on it and when compaired to other cars that have been lowered on -40mm springs it sits the exact same . i can see the point of that the spring rates might not be correct as the 1.6 engine will weigh more but can somebody please straighten this out for me , like how the standard springs are shorter than the lowering springs  confused.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="confused.gif" />

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

usually aftermarket springs are longer than standard ones.....they just compress more under the weight of the car.

  12. Wise words indeed Zippy.

@Dan: you pay for the fact its a Lupo GTI, thats just the way it is

I have said it before many times but for me, the Lupo is a very special car and the fact its a VW is a huge part of that...

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

i know...and i did....but just saying, if u look at it 'sensibly' u get nearly the same driving sensation from the arosa sport and still lots of individuality for a lot less dosh.

  13. i dont say that just cos of the problems ive had with my GTI.....

if u look at what u pay for the arosa or the GTI eventhough the GTI has a slightly better gearbox, and a touch more poke in the engine department the other (many)differences dont make much difference driving wise.....so from my view, having owned both Id now say go for an Arosa and spend the difference between that and the lupo GTI on mods....

as if anyone will take that advice tho!

  14. id say get an arosa sport and modify that with an air con unit, leather and coilovers and youd have something really unique, rare and a damn site cheaper than a lupo GTI.......

worst car mistake for me so far was changin my arosa for a lupo GTI

  15. ok Id be really grateful for any useful help here....heres a quick background of whats goin on.....

brakes go mushy, brake pedal 'heavy' to push and doesnt return right the way back it has to be 'clicked' back to the up position.

goes to VW they say it needs a new servo & other bits but feels worse when i get it back so phone up.....

next week at another VW dealer they say yep it does feel very mushy but cant find an actual fault...go back to where you had the work done.....

appointment booked but before then brakes go mental....one minute pushing pedal to the floor to get it to stop, next minute it hardly moves and im goin through the windscreen! get breakdown assistance as it felt dangerous and VW take it and fit new master cylinder....

car back today....feels exactly like when i fist handed it in so phone VWUK and will book in again..........

it does actually stop but there is a heavy feeling in the pedal, it squeaks and is notchy to push down and the brakes have no 'bite'.

anyone know what it might be? what should i do if they say that its fine and normal - because it does actually stop the car butn just doesnt work properly? I just dont want to end up with crap, non-working brakes and vw refusing to do anything more.......help?

  16. I wasn't being funny, just trying to be helpful. Although i can be as funny and sarcastic as you want from now on.

Back to topic, you have a Lupo, so buy stuff for the car you have, why would they bother doing different stuff for cars that have the same suspension?

KW, FK, H&R, Koni, etc.. only do one kit for Lupos even though the factory fitted dampers are different. Basically, Diesel and GTi cars have different dampers to the rest of the models (they aren't the same, in case you wanted to try a diesel car suspension)clap.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="clap.gif" />

    oh and by the way

u might say no u cant fit different size wheels, just 'lupo wheels' if u think along those lines.....

you cannot fit different size wheels, you also need to change the tyre size to make them 'lupo size' (more or less, again, just in case) well actually you can but it would look and drive stupid. Maybe you could try this out for us huh.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

doesnt matter my point is obviously not getting through...best just leave this one be, what im saying doesnt come across right trying to explain on a forum.

  17. He wasnt being funny is what i was saying.

The cars have difference shocks, so they need different springs.... simple!

    Plus, hows your spanish dan?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

if everything was that simple wed never bother modifying cars......u might say no u cant fit different size wheels, just 'lupo wheels' if u think along those lines.....nothing wrong with using bits of other cars....just wanted to see if anyone had tried this.

my spanish is fine, i just shout what im saying a bit louder and wave my arms about.
