Yeah prices are high at the mo, but bargains are rife to be had. they do exist the parking sensor mobile been a good example but just didnt get on with the guy selling it! There are also lots of vastly over priced examples, but as I said, they just simply are not selling, not even the cheaper ones. Its all well and good to want the big bucks, and for the dealrers to turn around and say "its a rare car so that comes at a premium" but they are still sitting on driveways and fourcourts!!! thats the botom line!!! they are a premium car and they are a great car, but im not gonna pay over the odds for a car which lets face it is expensive anyway. Id say its a good time to be a buyer right now cos everyone outthere selling one has still got it and I know if it where me I would be getting mighty itchy feet after a month or two with no sale!!! Yeah really want air Not so much for me but for my chick. Plus every car I have driven before has had air and I use it a fair bit so I think I would miss it. Shame really cos I could have had at least half a dozen 02 plate with between 5 and 15000 for 9000 or less without air. So I guess im making a rod for my own back and I should just make do, but I carnt cos I know as soon as I sacrifice it one will turn up which is exactly what I want. Im just gonna have to kep on hunting high and low!! Would like it soon though cos want to race my brother in his 61 cal look bug with an 1800 twin webered engine. So long as ive got one for bug jam to race all the antique's at santa pod in I will be more than happy.

Yeah but no air! nice example though. Every dealer I ring has dropped about a grand if I offer cashand no trade. It also helps playing dealer against dealer. Every private car I ring thinks thats what its worth, but they have all still got them for sale so clearly thats not what its worth!! I dunno, I guess the quest must go on!! TD

HOnestly all I want is for someone to turn around and say I have a silver lupo with 6 gears, air and less than 20000, this is what the parker books says would you like to buy my car for list price. Then I would say if its up to 9000 then yes

Yeah I have posted before. Cheers for the advice on L88 UPO. I think prices are high at the mo, but nothing is really selling, lots of cars have been on the trader since late december. Bearing parker and blck book in mind id say most cars are about 1 - 2000 over list. Lots of dealers and privates who think their motors are worth x amount, but they are just not selling. Prices may not fall but the cars that are for sale are lining themselves up for a hit. Got my eye on one or two which have already agreed to drop a grand for cash! As you may know I am in the process of searching for a 2002 silver GTI with low miles and air. A month ago I looked at a car in Hereford which appeared to be absolutely mint. When I arrived it was 4 month out of service date (which if I am not mistaken invalidates the warranty!!!). In addition the central locking wasnt working! (correct me if im wrong but when you press the key all the doors are supposed to open??). On top of this the car appeared to have done loads of miles in the first few months of life, then virtually none for nearly a year then 3000 in three months. When I saw the car it just did not have the air of been a well looked after GTI (which they all should be!) I was a little suprised to see what appears to be the same car on the VW website as an approved car! Dont want to get done for slander but the car I saw certainly was not well loved! Tom

Yeah damn straight The whole point im getting a lupo is because they are the 911 turbo of the super mini's and I hate boy racers. Scum who drive done up lawn mowers and try to race you at every light. Also I carnt wait for the day when a member of the saxo squad pulls up next to me, because whether his car is faster or not he will look at the super luper with envy, Game, set and match!!! I am trying to buy a GTI becuase: a) they are without doubt the best cars in the VW range and the only true successor to the MK1 golf. Also the only true car to deserve a GTI badge in production at present. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> I like to be different! and own cars no one else near me has! Imagine if you will my horror when I saw a silver GTI driving around my home town of Grimsby!!!! Was this you? If so please sell your car straight away (ideally to me). Yeah I know what your saying Want a premium car pay a premium price. There are so many about its just that air con thing. Guy with the parking sensor mobile is still selling, he's on hols at the moment but i think im gonna have it off him when he gets back. and yes you are quite right I will be kicking myself in six months when I still havent got one. So watch this space and maybe with any luck (which I havent had so far) I will be a proud owner of the only true successor to the MK1 GTI sometime before the end of the month. Cheers for the advice. Hello hello hello I am still ever searching for a nice GTI to spend all my hard earned dollar on. Im after a GTI Silver Six speed Under 20000 miles Air con CD (not essential) I am prepared to pay Parker prices IN CASH for a nice one. That means up to 9000 for a late 2002 plate with around 10000 miles (with the above spec's). If anyone has one to sell, has seen one local to you that I may not have seen, then please let me know. I feel like I stand a better chance of getting hold of the Holy grail and the Ark of the cuvenant at the mo. Think I may start a new carrear as Indiana Jones!!!! Hi Dave That sounds exactly what after, but it all depends on how much you want for the car! Ive got just about 9k and carnt afford to go over as the insurance is a stinger. Yeah point taken If hes still got the car then I may well have it off him for 9 may even go a little higher. Going to phone him, lay it on the line, get a full AA inspection (not that that helped me last time) and get him to fax me the service docs and the VIN number to run the checks. I will happily travel to find the motor and the park assist mobile sounds like a minter, just so did the hereford heap! I have to admit that it will probably take me a while to find another car like that one so should probably just make a move and stop sitting around waiting Cheers TD

The GTI with park assist is ideal, however, the guy is asking main dealer prices. I have offered him around 9k cash and will travel to see him. He says yes and will call me back. When he doesnt phone I phone him and he say 9250! I know its only 250quid but I need that cash for insurance. Basically I want that guys car, I would gladly suffer the humiliation of having park asssist on a car no bigger than my shoe, but he is messing me around a bit. So what do I do? cut my nose of over 250 quid or wait and see if anything else comes along? I really dont know! what do you guys think? Having already been burnt over the Hereford car I am wary about travelling all that was (400 miles round trip) unless the deal is done! TD

Lucky old you. Ah well I guess I am going to have to be pacient. Just carnt believe im in a situation where I want a car, i got the right sort of cash and no motor to buy. Those mupets on the trader can bite my ass if they think they are getting dealer prices and the dealers can swivel unless they get one with air. So I will have to wait in side lines until someone decides to sell me their car. Ill just have tro drive my girlfreinds Micra (im living in hell!!!!) TD

Hi Im in the process of going slightly mad trying to get my hands on a GTI. I want the following Silver (essential) 6 speed (esential) Sub 20000 miles (pref around 15000) FSH (abolutely essential if youve seen my dodgy GTI posting!) Aircon (essential) CD (not essential) Ive got 9 grand cash which is burning a whole in my pocket. There are plenty on the trader and most will bend. Ive got lots of dealers down to around the 9k mark but non have air. The only private ones are either over priced (in mind simple mind anyway!) or been arses over the sake of a couple of hundred quid. Im keen to get zipping around and have never been in a situation where I am prepared to pay book price for the right thing and no one wants to sell. Sounds like you did get a deal!! My goal is a 2002, silver, air, CD (opt) below 15000 with FSH. I recon a decent price private is around the 8.5 - 9k mark, but that could just be me been tight fisted!! But I am prepared to wait and so long as I get it before easter so I can race my brother 1641 1961 bug i'll be a happy bunny.

Hi Just thought i'd chip in my two penneth. Im looking for a GTI myself, the 8800 miler is cool but the parking sensors never came as an option on the GTI and as such are probably the ugly black ones. Also reading some of the responses about prices maybe this will help. I sneaked it of the VW dealers black book information (family conections) 2002 (51 plate) 20000 miles = 8575 retail and 7300 trade (excellent) 2002 (51 plate) 5000 miles = 8995 retail and 7700 trade (excellent) 2002 (02 plate) 3000 miles = 9395 reatail and 8125 trade (excellent) 2002 (02 plate) 8000 miles = 9495 reatail and 8225 trade (excellent) I accpet that because its are rare car valuations will vary, but the market is over inflated at the mo. I phoned VW three dealers yesterday all having 02 cars below 15000 miles (no leather) at around 10 grand. When presented with a cash offer and the black book info all bent under the pressure. The best offer I have is 8900 with CD fitted the worst offer 9200 delivered to my house. No bad going for a days bartering. Only problem for me is I want silver, below 15k and with AIR (which is harder to find). Hope this helps you out a bit. cheers Tom Dick

Hi The car I looked at is just outside hereford think it was around 15000, but it was a heap, never services, dubious milage, very dubious seller, broken central locking, damaged wheel bearing, the list goes on. Thank you to the AA for not identifying any of these faults on my £130 inspection!!! I think the car your thinking about is in Luton, I was considering looking at it myself. Prob is that the GTI's didnt come with park assist even as a factory option. Also I have done some serious looking in to the GTI lupo, I think the car with 8800 miles is a over book. I have phoned round a few VW dealers and their prices are high, however as soon as you say you may be interested they soon drop. Phoned three from the VW second hand website yesterday all 2002 with low miles at around 10 grand, within an hour they had all dropped to 9 grand and where chewing my arm off for a sale. Bonus of that is if it goes wrong it can go back to the dealer! Having family in the trade I can check the cap black prices and an 02 with sub 10000 miles should list at 9000 from a dealer, even with the extra toys!. The prices are aritifically high as they are a specialist car, but very few are selling (as the average commoner doesnt want to spend 9 g on a lupo, more fool them). All the cars on the trader have been there for over a month and are already starting to drop in price. Hope this is of some help. Cheers TD

Hi Im presently searching for a lovel lupo gti in reflex silver on an 02 with six speed, air and CD for around £9000 (cap black price) I thought I had found a gem of a car in Hereford which was advetised on fish4cars, after much haggling I got the guy down from 9995 to 8700, got an AA inspection (all seemed well) and went to buy the motor. Unfortunately on arrival I found the central locking was buggered, and the cars warranty was invalid as it was 1000 miles over serice. Result: no car, as yet! If anyone is thinking about this car dont its a waste of a journey! especially when you travel 300 god damn miles to see it. Just a warning (sorry if this is your car but it aint that great and you wasted my time big style!!!!) Tommy D
