  1. It's quite a lot of paperwork, but then again it's just forms asking all the data and stats from the car papers. So yeah, it's tedious to do but it isn't difficult.

The import tax for me was roughly the 15% of the price of the car. But I guess it will change between countries... Where are you going?

I'd like a set of V1's, but a few other things will have to come first ;)

Well I might be moving to Switzerland with work and I'm wondering if I could take my current GTI over with me. I'll probably end up buying a LHD car anyway though. The GTI is not my everyday car.

  2. TPS used to sell what was known as Economy Range for older VAG cars and I have an old catalogue from 2013 which lists a rear box for the Lupo. I assume that VW dealers also sell the Economy range but it is usually a fair bit cheaper from TPS if you know someone who has an account or if your local branch will sell to you.

It is a fairly easy job to hacksaw through the original exhaust - VW even put marks on showing where to cut but you will need the clamping piece to join the new box if it has not been done previously.

MAKE SURE THE REAR OF THE CAR IS SECURE - IF YOU ONLY HAVE AXLE STANDS RATHER THAN WHEEL RAMPS IT IS BEST TO USE SOME BLOCKS UNDERNEATH AS WELL.

This! Get an economy backbox, saw old one off, join new one with clamp, job done.

  3. I do. The car was bought in Germany, so to drive down I need to get these provisional number plates and a provisional insurance. Once I get to where I live (nowadays, its Switzerland) I have to "import" the car, pay taxes, do the paperwork, do an MOT test, and only then, I will get Swiss number plates and a Swiss insurance to cover me.

It's quite a long and boring process to be honest. But I think this car's worth it :)

The one you had looked really nice! What's it lowered on?

Sounds like a lot if paperwork. Is the import tax a lot? I ask as I may be doing something similar fairly soon.

It was on KW V1 coilovers.

  4. If only it was that easy. In my lupo loom, there is no wire in that position (marked GA). Poverty spec loom me thinks. So i guess i need to add it, if only i knew from where i could pick up the gala signal...

Oh right, that's odd then, as all the Lupo's I've had had that wire fitted. That's what the radio uses to get louder as you drive faster. Do you know if your radio had that feature working before you removed it?

  5. Ray, I have to say I agree with you about some of the cars that get so much interest...

Back to the photo, I think that year was as close as we have ever got to having as many different coloured GTI's together as possible! Orange and Laser Blue aren't very common!
