  1. You're mate seems like a pretty decent driver smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> It always amazes me how rubbish a lot of people are on track days tongue.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Much better on the continent! The British lot( read English) are dead slow on the track days I have been on with them. There are a no. of exceptions but in general the continentals are much better. More practice at speed!

The driver has just bought a GT3 Cup car and on his first outing beat the time set around Dijon in the Porsche Cup Championship! On a track day!

  2. I wish! I have driven the car, see my profile pic!

It is a friend of mine driving this time. Just as a passenger this time ohmy.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />(

I was using the Red car in my photo.

I have good footage of that passing GT3s too!

  3. I had a 1.8 16V then 2 VR6s from early nineties until last year.

My last VR 6 was a minter but was at 125K miles when I sold it and had cost over 2K in the last year with no engine work just brakes and suspension.

Bodywork was rusting on front wings and around the petrol cap. I sold my L reg for 4.5K

I would be tempted to give it a miss. It does not have the build quality to last much more than 12years.

A Porsche is fully galvanised and you get a cracking 944 for the same price. They do not cost much on parts if you can do the work yourself.

I went for a 968 CS and it is a million miles better than the Rado.

  4. Anything will run on it as long as it runs on Petrol. You will only see the benefit if your ignition is advanced to compensate for the high octane.

It is designed for track day hardcore and racing. Full spec and press release is on Pistonheads. OK for bikes too.

Now just need to find some for Spa Francourchamps next week!

    Hardcore track addict.

  5. Because most ended in a hedge so theres not many left?

Helps keep the prices high and the source of spare parts!

There are some RSs that have been damaged/written off only to appear a few years later like new.

One in Greece and the other in Belgium.

    Work that one out!

    Reshelled with ancillaries for one.

Old shell repaired with non original engine, gear box the other.

    Who has the chassis no?

    They both share it!

As for everyday use you can't beat a 968 CS on M030!

  6. Do you know how much a "old Porsche " is worth.

    73 RS LWT £100,000 +

    74 RSR £250,000+

    91 RS £30,000+

    92 3.8RSR £150,000+ ( yes the one above)

06 GT3 £85,000( not liable to go upwards for a long time).

Why do you think the old ones are worth more?

Because they don't make them like they used to!

  7. Looks like a lump of lard to me!

No love lost between the RS and GT3 brigade!

Anyway no doubt I will be up against a few at Spa at the end of the month.

415bhp but all that extra weight to get to stop and go.

I'll wager the RSR will whip its ass around Spa. 375bhp/1000kg

I'll get some video of overtaking a few!

  8. "Lupo GTI will be quicker"

I suppose I should qualify this by saying from A to B. The G40 hated corners!

I guess most of them are tuned up to 150bhp. Easy mod by fitting bigger belt on the charger. It is still a pile of .... but a quick one. This may explain the difference in opinion?

I can drive the 1.4 Lupo quicker A to B than the G40. Better brakes would have helped but they should have been fitted as standard.

I did love the G40 engine!

    Charles

  9. My wife had one. It was a hoot to drive but the build quality was crap. Bodywork built in Spain and rusted after only a few years.

Engine was the best bit(112bhp). In a Lupo it would be perfect.

Lupo GTI will be quicker and better bet.

    The chassis was crap.

    The suspension was rock solid

The exhaust kept blowing a centre section which was special order and 6weeks from VW.

The brakes were the worst bit. Totally under speced and soggy pedal.

I spent about £1500 on the G40 in 18months keeping it on the road and I had extended warranty. Brakes, exhaust, servicing not covered!

Ours was a K reg and still on the road last time I checked on DVLA. I hate to think what it has cost since we sold it.

It could accelerate like fun but people always misjudged how quick you were going so we opted for a VR6 Corrado because at least it had some street cred and the incidents of slow drivers pulling out stopped!

    Charles

  10. Just been to Star Performance with the Lupo today. Set of Black Diamonds in the boot and a new set of pads bought after checking with VW the correct part no. and buying on the web in Germany(much cheaper).

Well the best laid plans of mice and men...

Got a call from Star. Disks are not a pair. One is for the Lupo and one for a 106 according to the 147mmx18.5 size. Some ?%&$£$ sold me a dummy.

The pads were for a Sport so thanks VW! Fit GTI too by the way.

Star do not sell Black Diamond but do Pagit.

I have surplus to requirements a VG set of GTI disks(500miles)256mmX25mm(VW) and pads(VW) and a brand new set of pads(VW) if anyone wants to make me an offer for them?

I am also on the lookout for some 106 owner who cant fit his new disks because he has a Lupo 1.4 one by mistake!

    Charles

  11. Sounds like deisel on the road! First you know is when the rear passes your side window.

Happens alot in the 911 but normally on the track and only if you lift off mid corner.

I followed a 993 cup up the Kemel straight at Spa doing 140mph into right left. Saw petrol streaming out of his petrol tank on turn in. His back end went very quickly as the rear tyres caught the spill. He was very lucky he missed the armco. Lots were not so lucky. I smelt the spill before I saw it!

You were lucky but what about the ones behind you?

  12. Look like they could have fitted a 924 GTR. I'll check my books!

They will take much wider rubber and would suggest slicks are in order.

Just returned from Spa where I drove a 964 3.8 RSR one of only 50 made for GT series. It was on 305 40 18s on 11" rears and 245 45 18s on 9"

It felt like it was on rails. Check out photos of me at bus stop. Best fun to be had with trousers on or off ;O)

  13. If this is a group buy I'll have one! Anyone else? ;O)

Nice job. Similar job on the Corrado forum with R32 engine and 4WD added.

Awesome. Not one for your average owner.

I have a Polo/Lupo GTI leather steering wheel but when I tried to fit it the airbag connection was different. Has the Polo loom got a different connector for the airbag?

    Charles

  14. I had my timing belts changed at 48K on a 2000MY 1.4 Lupo. Cost £250 including oil change at Star Performance. Highly recommended for their VW knowledge.

They had a 1999 Lupo in the shop with bent valves and only 40K on the clock. It is ageing that hardens the belts not just mileage.

If you want a Black Lupo try Abbey Cars in Dunfermline. 03 plate 1.4S for £4995 and only 5K miles. Be quick!

    charles

  15. I have just had the garage try and fit a leather GTI steering wheel to my 1.4

Problem is although they looked the same the fittings are different.

Can someone check EKTA for me please?

    GTI part no. is 6 NO 419 091 L

On my Lupo the small hole in the steering wheel is slotted(larger) than this one(to the LHS of the steering hole. The airbag connections are different too.

Any suggestions? It may be up for sale soon if you need one for your GTI?

    Thanks,

    Charles

  16. The test is if the bits were advertised on the for sale section how many of you would be snapping his hand off for the individual bits?

I would take the side skirts and front grill and the tinting. Anyone else?

Take the transfers and the rear spoiler off it and the light covers and I would like it!

All comes down to taste. If its only 1Litre then I would rather have a bigger engine!
