  1. Started to have a few problems with the girlfriends lupo. Its a 1.4 E AHW. The car over heated the other day due to the fan not kicking in. So i replaced the water pump as it had the plastic one which was nearly seized. Also put a new stat in as that fell apart when i took it out.

    Now its all back together Ive got lumpy idle, Top hose hot bottom cold, All water hoses are really hard to touch until you take the expansion tank cap off and nearly blows your hand off even when you leave the car for a few hours.

    I'm thinking the pressure could be down to head gasket putting exhaust gasses into water system due to the over heating?

    Bottom hose still being cold due to new stat not working or blocked radiator?

    Idle lumpy - sensor by the thermostat, dirty throttle.

    other than that it drives fine and the fan kicks in.

    Would be great if anyone has any other suggestions

  2. Hi i got hold of a lupo a few weeks ago which had a number of things wrong with it.

    Last job i got to do on it is a seal on the back of the gearbox where the shift rod meets the gearbox. Ive got one on order with vw.

    Put the car over the pit to have a quick look today but i cant see how I'm gonna get it out.

    Anyone with any ideas on how to get this seal out would be great help.

    I did use the search but nothing came up.

  3. The G40 before a melted piston at Santa pod it ran a 14.3 leaning out in 4th would of pulled around mid 13s. Sadly being broken

    Engine spec

    1272cc, Full blend psd charger, k&n induction kit, heat shield, boost return mod, green 250cc injectors, sns stage 5 chip, toothed belts, mocal oil cooler, full longlife custom exhaust with decat 57.5mm, custom made manifold cnc'd flange to standard head, gt inlet manifold, helix organic clutch, lsd plus rebuilt gearbox box. This car has no head work and is standard internally. Also on gaz coil overs and a PPS sub frame.

    Alot of the parts are now being used to build a mk2 g40.

    Back to the loop its now nearly all back together. Got a wiper stalk to fit and sort the gearbox seal, renew the oil and shes ready to be back on the road. Anyone got a part number for the seal? I did use the search but could not find it.

    Well after driving the car back we only had a little noise coming from the gearbox only in fifth at around 2000rpm above that the noise went. Put new disks and pads on notice its got a oil leak (couple of spots) coming from the shift rod seal common issue? New cam belt and tensions ready just waiting on a water pump.

    Should be back together in the next couple of days.
