How to: De-lock The Lupo with Genuine VW Parts

Recommended Posts

This mod is to be only carried out if you have REMOTE central locking or an Alarm system which unlocks the doors.

Once this mod is carried out, you will not be able to code in new VAG Keyfobs without using VAG-COM.

Parts required

Dummy lock- 3B4 839 167

Primed cap - 3B4 839 879

Metal Disc - MET ALD ISC <--- I kid you not...

Just thought a few pics and instructions might help here......

1. Flick out plastic plug....

2. Undo screw using T20 internal socket, 5 turns or onto plastic stop. Don't force it any further.

3. Pull old lock barrel out whilst holding the door handle open.

4. Fit metal blanking disc into recess on door lock (above slot), this is not strictly needed but there is more security risks without the discs fitted.

5. Adjust door handle cable, flick out plastic piece from door handle and refit so there is less slack on the cable.

Additional information from Cliveski:

When you have the lock mechanism out (and before you insert the replacement part) you will need to adjust the small black clip on the side of the door handle. The small black clip is grooved and sits in a grooved channel - simply pull it out of the grooved channel and re-position further along the grooved channel - you need to move it 'out' towards you (nearly as far as it will go) not 'in' towards the door.

The small black clip is attached to a wire which governs how far out the door handle needs to be pulled in-order to open the door - once adjusted you will find you don't need to pull the handle as far out as before to open the door.

If you don't adjust the small black clip you may encounter these problems

1. You may find that despite the screw in the door being fully tightened the replacement lock part will not be held in place nice and tight.

2. You may not be able to open the door from the outside once it's been shut !! (It may work at first but as soon as you lock then unlock the car the problem appears).

3. You may not be able to open the door from the outside OR inside_!!

For obvious reasons do one side at a time and test it fully (open and close the door, lock it, un-lock it, etc) before moving on to the other side. If you get problem no.3 you will need to take the car to VW or use some brute force to make the mechanism do things it shouldn't do (not recommended).

6. Clip painted cover on to the dummy barrel, then fit into door, again, holding door handle open.

7. Tighten screw inside of door to clamp barrel in place.

8. Close door and open, do this twice or more to check the door opens OK, if not, open door from inside, remove barrel and re-adjust the cable.

9. Refit plastic cap to side of door.
