Righty Ho!

Firstly this has been a pain to get up but i've figured out the problem now!

Saw a lupo on clublupo, no pictures – just a brief description.

It had a link to the previous owner, who was Kev from Jabba sport (KrazyKev) and during its short life it had these modifications.

Weitec Coilovers

Ronal Turbos wrapped in Yokos

Re-Map done by Jabba – We’ll get to those lovely persons later on in this little epic story.

It was a W reg, 1.4 16v in green. It looked alright and for the price she wanted (£1200) I thought fair play.

She sent me pictures on the night, of the car and mentioned some scuffs on the front and rear. But for the £1200 asking price I wasn’t one to complain.

Here are the first pictures I saw:

I was sent closer ones of the scuffs but I can’t be bothered with uploading everything into this thread.

If you’re looking at the front of the car, there is one to the right on the bumper.

And one the rear right of the bumper, I’m not 100% you can see this?

Anyway, spoke to my dad about it as he’d be the one driving me 100 mile to Peterborough to buy it, and he agreed that we’d at least go look at it.

When we got there, we had a look around, started it up and took it for a little spin. Now, this is where my dad’s very very useful techniques come in handy.

All he ever does is spots faults with things, which is irritating unless it’s working to your advantage, which in this case... it was.

While we were looking around the car, he was talking to me and telling me what he thought, the girl selling it was inside with her dad.

So he called the girl out, and said that because of the condensation on the oil filler cap (There was a lot) the head gasket might have blown, I know someone locally that fixes these so that isn’t a problem apart from the hassle.

The one wing looked like it had been repainted, and the scuffs looked a lot worse in real life. Plus it had a dink.

I personally was prepared to pay the £1,200 she wanted, yet my dad was going to offer £1,000. He thought he’d be cheeky and say £900, so he did. Straight away she jumped on it and agreed it needed a bit of TLC and work done to it so we handed the money over and signed all the documents.

He got back into his car, and I got into my lupo. Straight away it felt comfortable and low (thanks to the suspension) and it handled like a dream. It was pretty nippy too...well it was for me, as my only other car was a 1.0l polo!

Got it home, shown my grandparents, cousin and mate and just loved every single bit of it.

The day after, it was the DubClique meet, so I drove it up to Leicester and brought the bonnet bra off our Danny boy, fitted it and things couldn’t get any better for me.

More pictures from the meet:

Everyone was commenting on it and I just felt over the moon.

Drove back, went all the B roads with Chris and it was just superb. Loving every second of it!

Then came Monday night, I went to the cinema but went to Sainsbury’s first to get some drinks etc, came out and it wouldn’t start. It just didn’t want to know. So I thought ‘bugger’ and walked across to the petrol station to buy jump leads.

When I came out I saw a driving instructor and asked him to give me a jump, he said alright and we went over to my car. Before I hooked it up he told me to try it one last time. Tada! It worked!? I had no idea what was wrong with it.

Then came Tuesday (Obviously after Monday!) got out in the morning, got in my car and drove to work, it was excellent, completely forgot about the night before.

My boss asked me to take some stuff to the post office, I always do it plus I get paid for pratting around driving for half hour. So I go out to my car and it doesn’t start at all, ‘bugger’ ran through my mind once more.

Waited until I finished work and it didn’t work either, I tried getting a jump but it just wasn’t firing up at all. So my dad was with the RAC and he called them out...saying he was a passenger in my car.

The RAC guy was with us for a good 2 hours, swapping this, cleaning that blowing this and changing that. He changed my coil and cleaned out all my spark plugs...but nothing. Gutted.

The day after my car got towed to a garage of my choice (My dads choice should I say).

One of my dad’s friends owns his own garage, I had people telling me it was the crank sensor so I told him what I’d heard and he agreed.

He tried plugging a diagnostics into it but it wouldn’t read. So he had a look behind the port and one of the wires had been pulled out. He put it back in and it told him there was low voltage going to the coil and that the crank sensor was broke. Low voltage was because of my battery and he’d ordered a new crank sensor.

When it arrived he put it on but the car still wouldn’t start...he had an electrician out and he told him that it’s the ECU. They continued to get it out and it was absolutely full of water. At this point I was at work, so my dad phoned me and told me what was happening and shot up there to have a look.

As he brought it out it was still dripping a bit “That’s nothing really Paul, not compared to what was in it before” he told my dad. The electrician told my dad he’d try and fix it, but if not it’s going to have to be a new one...

He took some pictures which are below, some of the ECU, some of my car looking sorry for itself and some of the van that now has my ECU:

Anyway, got a message from the mechanic I’d have it back on the following Monday. I was a bit miffed it had taken that long but waited.

Monday evening I phoned him asking where the hell my car was and he was just waiting for the electrition to get back with my new ECU.

Tuesday, nothing...

Wednesday my dad got home and said “Lets go and get your car then” I ran downstairs so fast I think I could’ve beaten Kelly Holmes...

Got there, and it was as dirty as I left it but alright...

Driving home it didn’t feel as fast but I was just happy to have my car back. The ECU didn’t have the re-map like before as it was a new one.

2 Weeks it took them!

At least I have my lupo.

Couple more of it playing in the snow!

Right.

After being pressured and pressured into getting 13”s for it (I wanted 14”s but a peer pressure and all that ****) I started scouring websites to find a set. When I had my polo I always loved ATS Classics so started looking for them, there were a few sets of 7s and a few sets of 8s but 7s on the back would be too small, and 8s on the front would look stupid plus finding a staggered set would be like trying to find your dads porn collection at 5.

Either way I got a phone call one night from my mate telling me to get on club polo, so I did and found a staggered set of classics – so the selling of my turbo’s began. They sold within hours and I collected the classics a few days after.

Here are some pictures, it sits so well and it’s been explained as “Sticking to the road like a smack head does to his stash!”

shame about all the problems but a modded car for only £900, you can't really complain! looks pretty neat and tidy too ;), the tinted lights and bra suit the colour. only downside is that there's a little too much of a gap between the arch and wheels for my liking ;)

I have been as low as i can, and to be honest as it stand is best. The way i drive it the back scrubs, and the front anti-roll bar hangars are actually 2inch's from the floor so its not going lower in that department.

If the suspension on the back was stiffer i'd go lower but its not, i've had this on many forums but its staying as it is.

And nfbr, i've always liked ATS Classics, especially the staggared set so who was i to turn them down in the end!

Thanks for the comments everyone,

James.

Glad you've got it how you want it after all the problems you've had :) I think it looks smart. And practicality has gotta over rule what everyone else thinks! The main thing is that you're happy with it and it can go/do what you need it to :D

Agreed about the colour comments!

I was contemplating putting my ronals on the lupo though didn't know what they'd look like, then i remembered that someone on the forum was rocking a set, though not any more, so i'm not copying.

Like it a lot mate!
