Hi guys im selling my gti soon and i was wondering werher you could point me in the right direction price wise ?

2001

6speed

118k miles

5months mot

Coilovers

15x7 borbet t replicas (i believe)

mk6 golf gear gaitor

bmc induction kit

421 raceland manifold

powerflow backbox

body work in okay condition no dents or major scratches

slight rust patch on roof

Engine smokes

abs pump faulty (have replacement)

I changed the cambelt back in july because i had no history on it , having done so it was out of timing resulting in the engine locking up and bending 10 valves and snapping 2 ...i spent 400 pound getting it running again but now burns oil but still drives as it should , i understand this devalues the car alot ! But what do i ask for it ? Im not going down the route of breaking it , thanks for any help

Is it not worth swapping out some of the simple stuff like the gear knob etc. Your likely to get sweetie money for it so why not boost it up a bit with the sale of these parts

I understand it puts buyers off but what do i let it go for ? Rich the only tacky mods are the wheels imo , ive already gained 2250 off the mods so far so i just take it on the chin and let it go for whatever they offer ?

These cars seem to hold their money well, however £2k in my opinion is still a bit steep for it.

Personally a car with that sort of issues on it would struggle to sell over here for anything more than a grand.

Have you considered an auction at all?

Are you desperate to sell it? No idea how handy you are but drop a new engine in?

It's probably burning oil due to worn piston rings or something. You could rebuild the engine but again, needs you to be handy.

The more I think about this, the fact you mentioned it's got no service history, now burns oil like mad, worn piston rings, valve seals perhaps?

Who's betting it wasn't serviced before the OP bought it?

OP, buy a new engine, drop it in. Instantly increase the value of the car, enjoy or sell. I really don't think selling it with a ****ed engine is a good idea. For the time being, I'd increase your oil viscosity. If it's burning oil, the engines ****ed anyway, you may as well keep it going as long as possible.

Break it you will make more than what you will get offered, i for one would take a few ££ worth off your hands.

Or just sell it as it is with all the faults you know about and get your hands washed of it and chalk it up to experience. That's what I'd do anyways.

true. It's an expensive lesson though

well, what are you putting in now? 10/40 might be a good shout. Plus maybe some oil fortifier.

I wouldn't use expensive oil. Your engine is ****ed.

Use car parts 4 less triple qx fully synthetic and the voucher code saveme75

Get you a few quid off

Think about this, you've learnt that if you try to sell it you're going to be offered a grand.

The underlying issue is the engine.

I've got a fair bit of Lupo stock atm so if you provide me with enough incentive you can come up, drop the car off, go to the metro centre, have a spot of lunch and do some shopping, go to the cinema, seduce some geordie birds and then come pick your car up with the engine issue sorted and I'll then annex your oil burner for the next refurbishment/sucker.

If you're ever going to consider getting an engine rebuild then you should also consider where to get this done.

I bought a GTI last week which had been rebuilt at what looked to be a reputable vw specialist, the bill was over 1k, the engine hadn't left the car and the rod bolts were either recycled or simply the wrong ones, haven't got into that yet but he got two months out of it and the whole thing is simply fodder.

ring around, get some quotes and then make me an offer. :)

It isn't to do with the type of oil, personally you'd be better changing it to 15/40.

Cheap and cheerful, if you're burning it then it doesn't degrade enough to make a difference.

regardless of what you use it isn't going to stop it slipping through the net, they do run fine when they burn oil but the deciding factor is do you want it to burn oil ?
