Ropers101
Hi i have ANOTHER problem with my Gti. Basically it started the other day and the car randomly starts to judder when I accelerate. I was thinking either a misfire or something to do with the spark plugs I've just changed but I don't understand because it doesn't occur all of the time. Was thinking maybe a dirty fuel filter but was wondering if anyone else has ran into this problem? Also there seems to be air getting blown into my car even with the air con/heaters turned off. rockey5uk2001
air will get blown into the car unless the vents are closed, the judder could be anything I would start with a VCDS scan see if that comes up with anything obvious, Failing that when was it was last serviced? it could be the fuel filter, it could also be a coil - common failure on mk4 golfs
Pete
Does it happen all the time or just when it's cold, does the eml come on at all. As mentioned leads and the coil pack could be playing up but that usually brings up the eml on your dash.
lupogtiboy
I would guess a set of HT leads would probably sort this. I had to change mine recently as it was misfiring on one cylinder below 3000rpm, and fine after that. I discovered that one of the leads had a split at the top and was arcing out onto the cylinder head, but over 3k rpm, I guess the spark was bigger so compensated for it. Ropers101
It still does it when it's warm and it doesn't seen to do it over 3k rpm either. I just think it's odd that it doesn't do it all if the time. And no warning lights are coming up
lupogtiboy
Mine didn't do it all the time either, but gradually got worse and worse. Didn't matter if it was hot or cold.
DannyParanoid
^this, same on my 1.0 recently, misfiring on idle but fine once moving, leads sorted it in the end but i did the coilpack and plugs as well!
lanky28
my gti did this, on cold start it was bad at low revs then used to hold back and judder when giving it some and eventually the eml came on, it was miss firing on cylinder one, changed the spark plugs, still there, changed the leads today and its gone so start with your leads, the previous owner of mine had done the coil pack Edited August 21, 2014 by lanky28
Ropers101
Yeah I think I will do leads then because I've just done the plugs.
lanky28
Yeah I think I will do leads then because I've just done the plugs.may as well, hopefully it sorts it, I took mine to get the eml code read and the guy who read them owned a lupo gti and he said some people don't use high octane fuel and it can cause the valves to clog up and cause a misfire, worth keeping in mind
Ropers101
Starting to worry here. Noticed that my car is spitting out oil onto my boot. I know this could mean many things but with the misfire I hope its not engine internal!
Pete
What sorta mileage has it done? Have you changed the leads yet? The two symptoms may not be related, no point worrying if you haven't tried the recommended remedies.
Ropers101
Mileage has just hit 50k and I have done the ht leads. Probably gonna buy a coil pack and see what happens.
lanky28
Change the coil pack if that doesn't sort it I'd get a compression test, it's strange you don't have a warning light coming up, mine used to come on when I was flooring it then after a few days came on constantly
Pete
Itl be even stranger if it's rings at 50k!!
m8ngn
Sounds like coilpack, It may be soot on the back of the car from over fueling, obviously if the fuel is not igniting it will have to come out the exhaust which will turn it to a black oil/soot. Hope you get it sorted.
Ropers101
As weird as it sounds the car seems to have stopped doing this! Hopefully I ain't speaking too soon! Very odd, can't help but think it was something to do with fueling, maybe some dirt I dunno but hopefully it has cleared. Thanks for all of the help, will re post if the problem continues
